Button moon

I came across button moon last night on amazon prime and watched some with my 10 year old daughter. I loved that when I was little in the 80s. Dd really liked it too but kept on pointing out the men in that back (clearly visible) moving the puppets, wonder how that escaped me as a child 🤔. And then the spaceship for Mr spoon to go to button moon is actually a tin of heinz beans, tin of pink salmon and a funnel 🤣 brilliant!! Im going to watch some more tonight.

Anyone know of any other 80s cartoons available to bring back memories and laugh at things we didnt notice back then?.

Chorlton and the Wheelies was my absolute favourite – he'd say "hello little lady" in a strong Yorkshire accent and Fenella the kettle witch would get really mad and pop through the floor.

ITV recently released collections of old shows to celebrate its 70th anniversary - loads of kids shows on them!

🤣🤣🤣. Bet your mum wanted to hide that video 😆 🤣

Apologies if somebody has already mentioned this, but did you know that the theme song to Button Moon was sung by Doctor Who actor Peter Davison and his, then, wife Sandra Dickinson? A useless bit of information, I know!

Still remember the song...we're off to Button moon, fly with Mr Spoon, Button Moon...!!!! Catchy little tune! 😄

I remember having my mind blown some years later when finding out Peter ‘Doctor Who’ Davison sang the theme tune!

Where did you get the jumper? I want one!! 🤣

Think a pp has linked to it already, but it’s the TruffleShuffle website, expensive but fab place for nostalgic things!

It says there he wrote and performed the theme tune but the voice was John Le Mesurier (Mr Mainwaring out of Dads Army)
Thanks for the link, will have a look

Thanks, that'll be why I didn't remember him narrating, because he didn't.😁

Does anyone remember Teddy Edward? I think it was lots of still shots of a teddy walking by a river. I think he had a bunny friend called Jasmine.

I can still remember the theme tune.

Portland Bill was a favourite in our house.

Talisin · 02/02/2026 17:10

There’s potentially a live action version of Mr Benn in the works, by the way…

DriveMeCrazy1974 · 02/02/2026 17:11

The shows I loved as a kid included Roger Ramjet, that was on TV on a Saturday morning before Number 73. Also, Galaxy High, The Racoons, and, Denver the Last Dinosaur. Oh, and Jem, the cartoon about a singer and her band called The Holograms. Kids today should be made to watch classics like these and not the horrible stuff that passes for kids TV!

Wasn't it "follow Mr Spoon"?
I've had the song stuck in my head all day so this thread was timely.

I'll offer up Raggy Dolls as another one I loved.

Yep definitely follow Mr Spoon!

Grotbags used to really scare me but she had the best prizes.

I was terrified of Grotbags too! And Puddle Lane - I used to hide under the table when my childminder put it on.

Finger Mouse - very much in the same league as Button Moon when it comes to the rather homemade production!

Oh my goodness I absolutely adored Mr Benn.

Blueuggboots · 02/02/2026 17:14

Jamie and the magic torch. Simon and the land of chalk drawings?? Chorlton and the wheelies.

Mikehunt2018 · 02/02/2026 17:14

I thought Degrassi Junior High was better than Kids of Degrassi Street.

I also thought Palace Hill on ITV was one of the most bonkers and fabulous programmes ever made. Do google it and marvel.

LunaDeBallona · 02/02/2026 17:15

Hope it works this time.
