Button moon

I came across button moon last night on amazon prime and watched some with my 10 year old daughter. I loved that when I was little in the 80s. Dd really liked it too but kept on pointing out the men in that back (clearly visible) moving the puppets, wonder how that escaped me as a child 🤔. And then the spaceship for Mr spoon to go to button moon is actually a tin of heinz beans, tin of pink salmon and a funnel 🤣 brilliant!! Im going to watch some more tonight.

Anyone know of any other 80s cartoons available to bring back memories and laugh at things we didnt notice back then?.

Stopit and Tidyup was my absolutely fave, watched again with both of my kiddos and they now love it too.

Lol. I just watched that a bit this morning, don't know why I thought of it. The names of the characters are just brilliant :-)

@Flannelfeet I had my birthday read out on that. My claim to fame lol! Im sure Glen Michael passed away recently 😔

I bet you were well chuffed ❤️. He did, I do remember reading something, but I can't remember when. I sent in a picture of the door to number 73 and got sent a badge of the big red door. I was over the moon for weeks 😆 🤣. Simple things eh!

Gawd can no longer edit my last post! Correcting myself: John Le Mesurier who voiced Bod did not play Capt Mainwaring in Dad’s Army!! He played Wilson I think!

TheGriffle · 02/02/2026 16:55

I used to love Button Moon, I have a Button Moon jumper that I wear all the time. Also a Hey Arnold one for a 90’s reference.

Puddle Lane was another one I loved, and I think Basil? He was a lion that lived in a garden.

It says there he wrote and performed the theme tune but the voice was John Le Mesurier (Mr Mainwaring out of Dads Army)
Thanks for the link, will have a look

Yes Derek Griffiths did all the musical contributions, if you watch as an adult you can hear his very distinctive voice singing the vocal bits on the characters' theme tunes, I can hear them all in my head now! (Bod was one of my absolute favourites!) My dad was a huge fan of Derek Griffiths and as a child I watched everything he was in, Playschool, Heads and Tails, etc. Later in life I saw him in a Shakespeare play, I had forgotten all about him but I recognised him straightaway!
As well as John Le Mesurier narrating there was a woman who did the narration for the Alberto Frog section, where he got a milkshake at the end for solving some sort of issue by playing music with his orchestra

WiddlinDiddlin · 02/02/2026 16:59

Never a big Button Moon fan..

I liked Trap Door, Bagpuss, Magic Roundabout, Stoppit and Tidyup - big fan of stop motion animation, so a lot of my favourites involved that. Oooh.. Morph!

Do you also remember the Sullivans? A black and white Australian period soap opera that started with a boy stealing another boy’s cap and running away. In my head it was the end of kids’ lunchtime Tv and time to go back to school (I lived next to the school and always came home for my lunch).

Yes

Loved it! I read The Three Musketeers in my early 20s and was really shocked at various shenanigans, particularly that Juliet was married to someone else!

Yes! I too was shocked to discover that D'Artagnan, unlike his canine incarnation, was basically a rotter, shagging Kitty to get into Milady's bed; shagging Milady in the guise of the Comte de Wardes ...😮
