I came across button moon last night on amazon prime and watched some with my 10 year old daughter. I loved that when I was little in the 80s. Dd really liked it too but kept on pointing out the men in that back (clearly visible) moving the puppets, wonder how that escaped me as a child 🤔. And then the spaceship for Mr spoon to go to button moon is actually a tin of heinz beans, tin of pink salmon and a funnel 🤣 brilliant!! Im going to watch some more tonight.

Anyone know of any other 80s cartoons available to bring back memories and laugh at things we didnt notice back then?.

It's definitely "we're off to button moon, let's follow mr spoon, button moon, button moon". I had a video of it that was watched eleventh billion times. That theme song has never left my head😂

Edited

At the end of the show, they changed it to

"...we followed Mr Spoon, button moon, button moooooon"

Andy Pandy,
Flowerpot Men,
Woodentops,
Chigley.

I had a vhs as a child that ended up chewed to bits from repeated watches of; Button Moon, Fraggle Rock, Funny Bones and strangely Muppet Babies. Think I was a sucker for a good theme tune

Rosie's ok but Jim just looks like a puppet Ronald McDonald to me.

I'm always waiting to see a serial killer couple appear in a Wes Anderson movie who terrorise a family and carry out a home invasion wearing Rosie and Jim fabric masks... creepy little gits.

Madrid21 · 02/02/2026 18:12

I was born in 85 and definitely remember the poddington peas and button moon.

Maybe slightly later but I loved teenage mutant ninja turtles, the raccoons, postman pat (the original!) Rosie and Jim, Albert the fifth musketeer.

@MamaBobo it was Alberto Frog who used to get a milkshake. The Alberto Frog story came partway through the Bod episode and Alberto and his animal orchestra used to solve some problem, then as a reward he used to choose a milkshake and the animals used to guess what flavour he would go for. Looking back it was a bit weird to have it as part of Bod as they were unconnected and different sorts of animation but someone obviously decided to bundle them together

What a trip down memory lane! I used to also love The Raggy Dolls. And wakaday with Timmy Mallet. I actually went on that show when I was around 10. My little claim to fame!

salsamad · 02/02/2026 18:15

I loved naughty Hartley Hare in Pipkins but a real favourite from the 70’s was The Double Deckers on Saturday mornings.
“Get on Board..Get on Board
Come and join the Double Deckers
Take a Ticket…..for a Journey
On a Double Decker London Bus”
God i loved singing that theme tune & you can still listen to it on Spotify 😆

Wasn't it "follow Mr Spoon"?
I've had the song stuck in my head all day so this thread was timely.

I'll offer up Raggy Dolls as another one I loved.

I'm definitely on a thread of my peers. I adore(d) Raggy Dolls. Brilliant for teaching acceptance. Raggy dolls, Raggy dolls, dolls like you and me...

Fraggle Rock, Pudding Lane, He Man, not She Ra. I might be a little bit overexcited for the He Man movie. Transformers. Thundercats. Rainbow not Rod, Jayne and Freddie. Pink Windmill not the standalone Grotbags show.

WhyCantThingsJustBeEasy · 02/02/2026 18:16

@Arlanymor I loved Worzel Gummidge and Aunt Sally lol.
Does anyone remember Monkey Magic? It was a Japanese show. Got myself a lot of cuts and bruises watching that show 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

Wow, what did you do? Were you on Mallet's Mallet? I had a postcard read out on Wacaday one summer but I never actually got on tv!

WhyCantThingsJustBeEasy · 02/02/2026 18:19

Isn't it funny how you can still remember the theme tunes and all the words to shows from 40 / 50 years ago, but i cant remember this morning 🤣

Does anyone remember a character / show called Bod? I think it would’ve been in the 80s.
Any time I’ve asked anyone, no one remembers it, I’m beginning to think I dreamt it!

edited to add: I’ve just googled it and can see it was real, but the picture in my head of a yellow triangle man isn’t quite right, but I can see why I thought it 😁

Edited

I used to have to go to my grandmas to be "looked after" (use the term loosely) when my mum was at work , she had dementia and one of her "things" was that you weren't allowed to have sound on the TV, depending on her mood. It's very hard to understand Bod without sound......

Noooooooooo! It was creepy! My sister also knew I hated it so would insist on watching it! Then many years later there was a Kids in the Hall sketch (you can find it on YouTube - we used to watch it on Channel 4 late at night when we were teenagers) with a man with a cabbage head. Ironically I found it hilarious and my sister hated it! (Probably because she fancied Bruce McCulloch who played the character). How times change eh?!!

Yes, I was on Mallet’s Mallet! I got through to the second round but lost because Tommy Mallet said nose and I said snot!! Haha. Such a fun day. They sent a limo to my house to pick my mum and I up to take us to the studios.

The Flumps were amazing, the one where Pootle is under a rain cloud as she/he is in a bad mood. Look and Read with (to me) the really scary Wordy the orange character. Pipkins as well. Ivor the engine and Willow the wisp although they signalled that the very limited kids tv window on the BBC was coming to an end , I think they were on at 5:30 and at 5:45 it was the news.

Anyone remember King Rollo? I think my sister and I used to call him King Rolo...

I loved Monkey, it was on BBC2 I think. I remember watching that and Harrold Lloyd which was black and white and he hung off a clock in the intro.

I am now blowing through my fingers a la Monkey and remembering Piggy and the princess in her white dress.

KitKatKrums · 02/02/2026 18:29

The biggest hit with DD from my childhood TV was the Sooty show. I walked into the lounge once when she was watching it and found her creased up with laughter. I asked what was so funny and she said “Sweep got stuck in the papier maché!” And she was right. It’s comedy gold. Sweep will never not be hilarious.

Lairymary · 02/02/2026 18:29

Postman Pat, the animals of farthing wood, Bertha, round the twist, pugwall, Thomas the tank engine, Hartbeat, fun house, green claws.
Does anyone remember a program (Saturday mornings) where there were two (kid) contestants that had to complete tasks and would go up and down in an elevator to the task, the only game I remember is them having to swim around a giant bowl of cereal to fish out the cereal.
I'm also half remembering a show with early teens where they would make stuff, and there was a girl who would get things out of her bag, but it was a never ending bag, where she would pull out a hocky stick for example.., I want to say it was called "Why" or "How".
