What’s on your Costco shopping list?

NappingThroughTheChaos · 31/01/2026 06:08

My husband has just signed us up for a Costco card, so we’re heading there this weekend for our first Costco trip as a family (Im very excited!!)

I’m pulling a shopping list of things to look out for and wondered what are your must-buys / favourites so we don’t come home with a kayak and 48 croissants?! 🤣

Current non-negotiables: Skippy peanut butter (husband) and gyozas (my son).

Fresh chicken schnitzels, frozen Kirkland chicken tenders (proper breast and so good, the bag is massive), toilet roll, but one get one free packs of bagels. As people have said the Kirkland stuff is really good quality and VFM. For anything branded I compare to the supermarket as it can be hit or miss. I also love the sushi and the butter chicken curry from the counter.

My friend swears by their tinfoil and bin bags!

It’s not a money saving shop. We don’t go anymore as have no bloody storage here.

the Kirkland brand is good IME.

jaundicedoutlook · 31/01/2026 14:30

Most of the stuff has already been mentioned, but one thing I always look out for (not always in stock) is the iberico pork - not the cured ham, but fresh pork shoulder joints, which are off the scale good.

Toddlerteaplease · 31/01/2026 14:34

I went and was really disappointed. Everything was in bulk and I don’t have space for it. So bought nothing.

That's why I rarely go. There are just two of us most of the time and we just don't have room to store most things. I have bought things like Gaviscon ana a pack of 6 tins of coconut milk because we do go through that fairly quickly, but all the perishable stuff that can't be frozen would go off and we don't have huge amounts of storage space for evrything else.

MandSJaffaCakesRule · 31/01/2026 15:22

Don't get your head turned by all the fancy Asian dumplings. Get the cheapy pork and veg ones that are £6 a pack. They are by far the nicest ones. And get some Yashida's sauce ( an all purpose soy sauce dressing) to put on them.

The frozen prawns are really good value. And the really big packs of dried pasta.

SpiritOfEcstasy · 31/01/2026 17:49

Peanut butter pretzels. I pay for my membership just for them 😂 They’ve been out of stock since before Christmas…which probably isn’t a bad thing 😬

Defiantly41 · 31/01/2026 17:56

Tin foil - massive, thick, high quality
cling film
big tubs of Lurpak and Greek yoghurt
loo roll and kitchen roll
pet food
batteries
Lavazza Qualita Oro ground coffee is about half the supermarket price
Tea and instant coffee if they have brands you like

themesses · 31/01/2026 18:06

We didn’t renew our membership as the closest one is an hour away but we are running out of essentials and considering signing up again!

Laundry detergent
Dishwasher tablets
Toilet rolls
Tin foil/ greaseproof paper/ cling film
Bottled water
Wrapping paper at Christmas

ilikemethewayiam · 31/01/2026 18:15

Fresh Croissants, bagels and scones!

cerealmover · 31/01/2026 18:16

I second Cheesecake Factory, can't find it anywhere else here.

Cookies, chocolate pancakes, shortbread - bakery

Holzy91 · 31/01/2026 18:26

Kirkland extra fancy salted mixed nuts -

tasty and work out loads cheaper than buying from the supermarket for what you get and the quality ( some supermarket nuts aren’t nice)

What’s on your Costco shopping list?
riceuten · 31/01/2026 18:27

Nothing - no intention of joining

Toilet rolls , kitchen roll , laundry detergent ( I choose whichever is on offer ) dishwasher tabs , clingfilm if you have a place you can store it it works out at a fraction of the price.
I don’t get clothing but I’ve had trainers from there a couple of times .
The mini chocolate beignets are absolutely delicious 😋

Mumtobabyhavoc · 31/01/2026 18:36

I'm in Vancouver, Canada and do my weekly grocery shopping at Costco. I buy as much as I can there, actually from clothes to food to electronics. My weekly staples shop looks like this:
fresh produce
bakery items
rotisserie chicken
milk/eggs
yoghurt
cheese

Also regularly buy:
pesto
wontons (freezer)
frozen strawberries or mixed berries
Kirkland brand coffee (made by Starbucks)
Kirkland brand diapers (made by Huggies)
ground bison or beef (coned as 3 pk of about 600g each)
bag of frozen wild pink salmon fillets
fresh duck x2 for freezer
smoked salmon
all purpose flour (10kg bag)
sugar
steel cut oats
toilet paper (loo roll)
paper towels (kitchen roll?)
Chicken pie
quinoa salad

I buy my contact lenses and cleaners, eye drops;
my mum's hearing aids (Kirkland brand)
vitamins
shampoo
face lotion/body lotion/soap
laundry detergent/dishwashing

Have bought my Apple lap top
Car tires
Currently looking at tv's
towels/sheets
area rug
kids toys/snow sled/Christmas lights

Kids's clothing (socks to rain gear)
My clothing (including Hunter rain boots!)

Return policy is excellent
Executive member 9 years
Love my yearly cash back which buys me at least a week of groceries!

Glittertwins · 31/01/2026 18:41

We tend to stock up tinned tomatoes, weetabix, Coke Zero, deodorants, razor blades, dishwasher tablets and washing pods.
The petrol station is the same price as a local one so we don’t bother unless we actually do need it when we go.

Snoopypie · 31/01/2026 18:45

We moved to Australia and really missed our trips to Costco, then one opened near us a year after we arrived.
We were sadly excited to be able to get our regular bin sacks and food zip lock bags again , yes, that really did make us feel more at home here😂
The children’s books are great too, some good deals.

Sharptonguedwoman · 31/01/2026 18:48

We like their lasagnes. Kitchen rolls can be a bargain too. Slabs of baked beans and tinned tomatoes for convenience.

JellyCatOnAHotTinRoof · 31/01/2026 18:49

packets of seaweed
collagen
bags of dried mango
mulitpacks of crisps
dishwasher tablets
trays of make your own fajitas/tacos from the deli bit

Fiftyniftystates · 31/01/2026 18:53

Mozzarella sticks!
Bob the snail (cheap yo-yos)
ketchup
tea bags
steak and mince
squash
vitamins
bin bags and food waste bags
cleaning supplies

MrsH497 · 31/01/2026 19:01

I get the big packs of lamb and beef mince and portion it out for us and vacuum pack it flat (250 is never enough and 500 too much), chicken I do the same, pork fillets, monkfish, toilet roll, dishwasher tablets, tin foil, cling film, cereal for the children, my girls love the packs of pancakes. Cleaning products as well sometimes.

MoonWoman69 · 31/01/2026 19:05

Meat, veg, bakery, smoked salmon, ready cooked ribs from the hot counter, frozen king prawns, coffee, vitamins and then the cafe for a hotdog or a piece of pepperoni pizza on the way out! Don't forget to keep hold of your receipt, they check your trolley on the door on the way out!
