What’s on your Costco shopping list?

My husband has just signed us up for a Costco card, so we’re heading there this weekend for our first Costco trip as a family (Im very excited!!)

I’m pulling a shopping list of things to look out for and wondered what are your must-buys / favourites so we don’t come home with a kayak and 48 croissants?! 🤣

Current non-negotiables: Skippy peanut butter (husband) and gyozas (my son).

Why are so many people buying bottled water? Is the water really bad where you live?

I am in Scotland so have no issue with tap water however my son in particular likes sparkling water which he tops up with Vimto. Much rather he drank that than coke or monster so we buy the big trays at Costco.

Tinned tomatoes bottled water chicken breasts

Mumof4321 · 01/02/2026 11:27

Dove body wash (6 bottles)
Colgate toothpaste (12 tubes)
toilet roll (if you have space to store them!)
Olive oil (6 bottles works out not a lot more than buying 1 from Asda/morrisons etc)
all the food I’ve bought had been nice. Nan raves about the rotisserie chickens
washing powder/conditioner, cleaning products but be careful- just because the price looks good, doesn’t mean it actually works out much difference from supermarket.
also make sure you read the prices INC VAT, they’re in smaller print than the ‘before VAT’ prices shown in bold.
the pre cooked food at the end is delicious. The pizza slices are HUGE!

happy shopping 🛒

We don't have a card now, but I used to love to stock up on the big packs of mince, stew steak, chickens, salmon. It was always good quality. Hated the unpack and freeze into smaller portions when we got home though 🤣

No. Our water is perfect. My child goes to a school where kids think it is fun to reach into the bottle holder on backpacks and grab and throw the bottle. We got fed up of replacing lost and damaged bottles so now have the bottled water and reuse it a few times - not too many as the plastic is very thin.

I wonder when I see people with flat trollies full of pallets of bottled water !
Are they buying for a shop? A cafe? Event?
There was a huge queue at our local one , they were waiting for the water to be unloaded .

I see people buying loads of the tins of Panettone ( 12+ tins) maybe they are doing their present shopping or fulfilling requests .

The bottles aren't the easiest to refill which is a shame as the smaller sized are good to put in my bag but not something I re-purchase

Chilli sauce is good
Huge Nutella jars
Bags of semi sweet chocolate chips for cooking

Katie0909 · 01/02/2026 15:02

The huge packs of loo rolls (essential since covid shortages!), hot dogs, frozen raspberries (huge tub for about £6), the Indian snacks are really good, the fresh burgers are thick & better than most thinner supermarket ones, some good bargains in clothing (Jack Wills/Under Armour/Levis etc), the Penn State pretzels are a bargain £3/4 for a huge bag and fuel is essential - there are often queues but they move very fast. Enjoy - you will love Costco!

Tumbleweed24 · 01/02/2026 16:24

Don't forget to try their pizza at the cafe too.

Silverbirchleaf · 01/02/2026 16:24

Regarding water, there’s been a lot of problems in Kent, not just Tunbridge wells with the water supply being interrupted. Consequently, a lot of people were going to the Lakeside Costco to top up. We reckon it was quicker to drive there, get the water and drive home, then queue at the (free) water station to pick up water!

Oh yes. I remember that.

My DS will only accompany me to Costco if I treat him to two slices of margarita pizza . He pushes the every increasing weight of the trolley in exchange .

As a side point , those trollies are bloody good ! Never found a dodgy one .

quiteathome · 01/02/2026 17:06

Bin bags
Toilet rolls
Gyoza
Chicken tenders

Other bits vary depending on specials really

I now want to go to Costco. Might head there on my day off

Mine will only come if we get him a mango smoothie to have as we go around :)

Which part of Costco are the gyoza in? Lots of if people have mentioned these.

littleHen84 · 01/02/2026 17:59

Frozen section. There is quite a good range of Asian inspired frozen food

No, you have to work for certain professions, such as military, civil service, emergency services, lawyers etc.
Or own your own business.

It used to be like that here, too, but now anyone can join.

I'm guessing you're not in the UK? Quite strict here.

Yes, Canada. I think Costco opened here in the 90's with rules like that. Unsure why, but it was open to gov't workers and certain other professions first. A huge business warehouse just opened here. I think it is even larger quantities specifically for food industry as well as other business supplies. Any member can shop there, too.

We should post some of our receipts to compare prices!

Sunshineandrainbow · 01/02/2026 21:09

Garlic and herb sauce. Good with pizza

MoonWoman69 · 01/02/2026 21:17

Good idea @Mumtobabyhavoc

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/02/2026 21:27

If anyone is interested in the utterly boring. 😁

For example;
egg, 2 dz (free range, local)
Fresh figs,680g
Wontons, 1.36kg
shrimp, 680g (tail off/wild)
walnut loaf was a large carrot walnut cake w cream cheese frosting

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/02/2026 21:30

Also, you can shop Costco with your membership worldwide. I've shopped in Maui, Las Vegas and Bellingham. You can't buy alcohol at Costco here in BC, Canada. I'm unsure about the other provinces.
