What’s on your Costco shopping list?

NappingThroughTheChaos · 31/01/2026 06:08

My husband has just signed us up for a Costco card, so we’re heading there this weekend for our first Costco trip as a family (Im very excited!!)

I’m pulling a shopping list of things to look out for and wondered what are your must-buys / favourites so we don’t come home with a kayak and 48 croissants?! 🤣

Current non-negotiables: Skippy peanut butter (husband) and gyozas (my son).

The tin foil is so thick and lasts forever. As does the cling film but I can't tell you how many times I've scraped my hand on the incredibly sharp cutting edge.

Theworldisupsidedown · 31/01/2026 19:07

Family member says toilet rolls and the fuel station. And laundry items.

Katherineryan1986 · 31/01/2026 19:10

Filet steak, portion it at home and freeze. Works out so much cheaper than eating out or the supermarket

white fish

kitchen roll

loo roll

potatoes

onions

garlic

muffins, they freeze really well and you can defrost one in the microwave in a minute

box of marigold wash up gloves

pack of microfibre cloths

People go mad for the water at Costco I've seen people with a trolley full of it.

Same and I’m not an eco warrior but that amount of single use plastic is actually offensive.

MakeMineAMilkyTea · 31/01/2026 19:15

Loo roll, dishwasher tablets, square sausage, chicken pakora, screen wash, wasabi snacks, kinder bueno, bin bags, cling film, crispy duck, prawn toast, babybel and dausahes

cowandplough · 31/01/2026 19:39

Just remember prices are posted without VAT which is shown separately. I don't know where you live but where I live it is very very busy.
Who are you Cando6 to refer to Costco customers whatever there are buying as scum?

Letstalk3llo · 31/01/2026 19:44

Your husband is a legend.
You may wonder wtf have I done, as you queue to find a parking space. But once you’re inside it’s an Aladdin’s cave of food wonders, alongside tools, clothes, sports equipment, camping equipment… the list is endless.
My recommendation is to head straight for the wine section. They have some epic wines. Then straight to the savory food section, to accompany your wine of choice. On your way to the checkouts, don’t forget your croissants for breakfast and snacks for midnight. Once you’ve paid, the last thing to do is pick up a hotdog and soft drink (free refills), order some car tyres and book yourself an opticians appointment.

cowandplough · 31/01/2026 19:45

Sorry cando6 should have worn my glasses.

Sign up to the newsletters - they run promotions all the time (some for a few days and some for 3 weeks) and the newsletter is the best way of finding out the latest discounts.

We love:
Kirkland tuna
Kirkland batteries
Bottled drinks (e.g.oasis and starbucks, but only when on offer)
coffee beans
black bin bags (but only when on offer)
cereal

They also have decent promotions on bedding (high quality thread count sets for super prices), towels and skechers. Also love their plants when they get them in (recently got some amazing, large indoor palms in wicker baskets).

Their freshly prepared ready meals are a life saver for my mother. She portions them up and freezes them so when she is suffering with her health, she can heat up a portion. She loves the cottage pie, jalfrezi, enchiladas and beef casserole.

winnieanddaisy · 31/01/2026 20:10

I’d recommend their own make thick bleach . It’s exactly like domestos but only about £4 for 12 bottles .

IFNJ · 31/01/2026 20:33

The bagels are my favourites! Slice and freeze then take out and toast as required

freakingscared · 31/01/2026 20:36

Meat , their fresh meat is great , the toilet paper is great , the chicken and the prawns are amazing too .

onlyhereforthefood · 31/01/2026 20:43

We love their frozen chicken nuggets, not the cheapest but far better quality than the supermarkets.
Quaker rolled oats are a good buy
Babybels
Bottled sparkling water
Dishwasher tablets when on special (I always price compare)
Crisps and sweets when on offer
Their freshly prepared meals are great for hosting
Anything from the bakery is great!
Mango chutney and sweet chilli sauce
Marmite

Isittimeformetosleep · 31/01/2026 20:46

Tinfoil and clingfilm
Maple syrup
Vanilla
Rotisserie chicken

Whole duck in the frozen section (comes with sauce and pancakes) usually £9.99 which is good but currently had a few pounds off at the moment for Chinese New year making it excellent value!

Pistachio spread
Olive oil

Have had some great books, gadgets etc over the years and as people have said, their returns are amazing

Imisssleep88 · 31/01/2026 20:51

We get their beef mince and chicken breasts, I separate and freeze for when needed. Their 6 pack of individual Victoria sponges are lovely if wanting a treat.
Other regulars are:
Profiteroles if having a gathering
Often have bread loaves on offer like 2 for 1
Baking potatoes
Fruit if your going to use it all as obviously bigger packs, find it lasts longer than supermarket fruit generally.
Cheese block
Cheese string
6 pack bacon
Eggs
Yorkshire teabags
Harpic black
Fairy liquid when on offer
Vanish stain remover
Washing conditioner
Dettol disinfectant spray

Grab a leaflet on way in with the current deals and look out for the offer signs on products, think their blue, usually a good indicator of a good deal.

LaraS2511 · 31/01/2026 21:20

Cling film & foil
sandwich bags
bottled water
toilet roll/kitchen roll
The prepared food is hit & miss

Don’t bother with own brand dishwasher tablets, awful!

Partypants83 · 31/01/2026 21:24

I don't buy from Costco.
It's a US company and I am sending my (very small) message to America that I don't buy from companies in a country that is sliding towards fascism at an alarming rate. And are a real threat to the UK and Europe. And any number of other countries.
BOYCOT US COMPANIES!

Err no thanks, take your crusading elsewhere..

From Costco we always buy the seaweed snacks (much better tasting and better value than the Itsu ones); fresh profiteroles, butter chicken, meat and fish; herrings, avocados, patron peppers, peanut butter. Once in a blue moon we buy their aluminium foil which lasts for ages.

Fishrepeating · 31/01/2026 21:47

trying to think of a few things not already mentioned…

  • boxes of cards with a ‘handmade’ look
  • cartmel sticky toffee pudding two pack is about the same as a single one in Waitrose
  • ruck sack that lasted all of KS2 and is still going strong
  • Hilary brand trousers - not one for the ultra stylish maybe but I now have 3 pairs I wear a lot for work
  • christmas fruit cake
  • Christmas mince pies
  • easter and Christmas Belgian chocolates

I still mourn the loss of the vegan sushi tray -
what a treat that was while it lasted! Slim pickings in the ready meals for me as I veggie. Non-veggies I know all
rate the burritos, cottage pie, cobbler … these are not cheap but are good quality.

AlexandraPeppernose · 31/01/2026 21:55

I went today. It is definitely a splugh rather than save options.

Best buy today was huge raw crevettes, tilapia fillets, corn fed chicken breasts on bone, prawn gyoza and haw daw (sp)
The kefir yog was 1ltr for 2.50 so bargain. Quantum dishwasher tabs on offer. There is a rally good Spanish evoo a tenner for a litre.

I spent my monthly grocery bill in 2 hours. We will save over the next few months on fairy liquid, dishwasher tabs etc but its more an experience than a money saving venture.

Skybluepinky · 31/01/2026 22:05

Kirkland kitchen roll, loo rolls, food bags, air fryer liners, bin bags.

MapleSyrupOnToas · 31/01/2026 22:09

Branston beans.

BreakingBroken · 31/01/2026 22:14

i live within 20 minutes and it's my go to place everything from eggs/milk/cheese/butter/peanut butter/coffee/toilet paper/paper towels/dish soap/shampoo/deodorant/toothbrushes/toothpaste/canned tuna/tomato paste
isle by isle it's my go to place the only time i don't shop at costco is for smaller volume items which is rare.
