What’s on your Costco shopping list?

My husband has just signed us up for a Costco card, so we’re heading there this weekend for our first Costco trip as a family (Im very excited!!)

I’m pulling a shopping list of things to look out for and wondered what are your must-buys / favourites so we don’t come home with a kayak and 48 croissants?! 🤣

Current non-negotiables: Skippy peanut butter (husband) and gyozas (my son).

Do those of you who shop there regularly have large families and/or loads of storage space?

MymblesMother · 31/01/2026 22:32

This is my usual Costco list. I go every couple of months.
Kirkland loo roll and kitchen roll.
tissues
foil/clingfilm/baking parchment
giant box of wash powder
Kirkland dishwasher tabs
cheese
lurpak spreadable is often cheaper, and block butter is generally a good price
croissants
maple syrup
cadbury hot choc
galaxy hot choc
pasta
yorkshire tea
coffee (not always cheaper)
sweet baby rays bbq sauce

you can find the current warehouse special offers online (Costco uk warehouse offers) They change every couple of weeks.
They don’t always have some items in stock - dishwasher tabs haven’t been available the last couple of times I’ve been, but they had them this week so I got a couple of boxes.
Don’t forget some items have VAT to add on (it’ll say on the price ticket)

I don't buy from Costco.
It's a US company and I am sending my (very small) message to America that I don't buy from companies in a country that is sliding towards fascism at an alarming rate. And are a real threat to the UK and Europe. And any number of other countries.
BOYCOT US COMPANIES!

Costco has consistently refused to compromise on its DEI policy despite Republican threats and recently sued the Trump administration due to the tariffs. They are the good guys.

I’m not sure about everyone else but if I’m going to Costco myself, I let Costco tell me what I’m Getting 🤭 DP is popping in on Tuesday on his way home and I’ve asked him for ribenas as DS 18 with asd is obsessed. And some vegetable oil…. It’s way cheaper if someone else goes for you 😆

BambinaCucina · 31/01/2026 23:11

Where to start, we love costco!

We've bought everything from GoPros to handheld steamers when on offer.

I rate their 32 degrees leggings and tops. I really feel the cold so wear these practically every day when it's not summer.

Their wrapping paper is fab (though my DH isn't a fan as it doesn't have gridlines 🤣). I got some reduced to less than £3 just before Christmas.

I tend to shop their offers (they do email constantly though). I buy:

French Macarons
Bonne Maman
Pastel de nata
Chicken Pakora (if you're in Scotland)
Fresh meat - their chicken I currently the cheapest and is good quality. They sell 3 packs of pork fillets as well.
Rotisserie chickens.
Pecorino Romano
Parmesan
Extra Mature Cheddar (Ford Farms)
We like their cakes and pastries, but don't buy them often.
Babybel
Cumberland sausages
Harpic Black
Mr Muscle Power Drain Unblocker
Zoflora 2ltrs
Dettol disinfectant.
Vanish oxy liquid (stock up when on offer).
Kirkland laundry liquid.
Tin foil.
Parchment paper.
Cling film (it doesn't just tear when you so much as look at it).
Scented bin bags - they stretch and don't tear.
Chicken gyoza.
Frozen raspberries.
Herbs and spices are an absolute steal compared to supermarket prices. 28g of bay leaves are less than £2 vs over £2 for 3g at the supermarket. Copious amounts of tandoori masala for less than £4
MSG
Geeta's mango chutney
Kikkoman soy sauce
Sweet chilli sauce
Ghee
Options hot chocolate
Proper corn
Roasted and salted nuts
Wrigleys Extra
Forest feast salted nuts.
Regaine! £48 for 3 months
The neutrogena blue shower gel is perfection.

I also buy their foil trays with lids for self catering holidays. And their wooden cutlery is good for parties.

Will be picking up their sliced cheese to try next time.

And you are obliged to stop at the cafe on the way out. I think it's actually law. In fact, we've stopped in just to use the cafe if we've been passing.

No. Tins go in my garage. Loo roll and some other items I split with my parents. For me, it is less about bulk purchase or saving money and more about quality, getting something different and the service eg the birthday cakes made to order. Also the staff are
pretty cheery and helpful in the one I go to!

JW13 · 31/01/2026 23:16

Niche but the large bags of dried mango (Kirkland). It’s excellent and a decent price.

Chiefangel · 31/01/2026 23:19

Toilet roll
Wine
Fairy non bio liquid for washing machine
Dettol washing machine liquid
Protein bars
Tuna tins
Deal on clothes
Washing up liquid
Rotisserie chicken
Pepsi max
Kirkand water

BambinaCucina · 31/01/2026 23:20

I don't buy preprepared meals as a matter of course but I've had a sample of the chicken hot pot and it was lovely.

The sandwich platters are also decent.

CarolwithoutanE · 31/01/2026 23:20

Babybel!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/01/2026 23:33

Alpro Soya 3 pack
Skippy Peanut Butter
Frozen bags of chicken in breadcrumb for DS
Hash Browns
Astonish Oxi ( pink tub)
Cheddar
Olives
Loo roll
Bin bags with the drawstring
Bonne Maman jam
Whiskas cat food
SebaMed shower gel
Toothpaste for DS
Ribena'
Tropicana Orange
Part baked French Bread

I'm going next week no doubt more will be added to the list !

Biffsboys · 31/01/2026 23:42

Batteries
wine
peroni
loo roll ( cushelle)
kitchen roll
tin foil ( will last a couple of years )
Bin bags
water
anything else that catches my eye lol
most of the food is way too much for us

oggie679 · 01/02/2026 00:23

We get the loo roll (Kirkland or Cushelle), tray of water bottles, tray or two of canned diet/sugar free fizzy drink, large container of mango chutney as standard. Sometimes we get extra bits like the salmon pate or a rotisserie chook, I've had a lovely DKNY winter coat set, air fryer... Oh and we all love a cheeky slice or hotdog every now and again!

The Kirkland one is 28% sugar. 😭 The unsweetened Forest Feast one is just mango and tastes just as good, mango is already sweet.

changeme4this · 01/02/2026 01:01

Research your prices before you leave home.

my list includes (not in the uk), 3 bottle pack of rinse aid, toilet paper, feta cheese, Kirkland oven foil, laundry detergents, puff pastry packs, mixed unsalted nuts, organic oats, milk, cat food if on rebate, cat litter because my preferred brand is cheapest at Costco, honey, check out the meat packs if on rebate, flour, sugar, cornflour, tomato pastes and sauces, butter, tea bag’s, Kirkland batteries, bulk packs of WD-40 (workshop item), bin bags, kitchen wipes. There’s probably more… but generally I avoid the middle sections.

I dislike the food from the food court, and I haven’t found to my liking any of the packaged pre made dinner items except the sushi and prawn packs.

hot chickens are tasty and I will break one down into sections and freeze for my lunches.

how many of you are going?

Used to buy the bags of chocolate covered mango in the candy section. Sugar schmugar. 😁

Costco has consistently refused to compromise on its DEI policy despite Republican threats and recently sued the Trump administration due to the tariffs. They are the good guys.

And they treat their employees very well in addition to stocking lots of locally made/grown items.
But, I get you OP. That's why I won't travel there (I'm in Vancouver and used to go there a lot).

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/02/2026 01:41

Coffee always seems really ££ , it's in a tin but not a bargain.
I buy dishwasher tablets from Aldi and soap powder
Binbags are brilliant really strong compared to the flimsy ones in shops
Loo roll ( it is smaller now I noticed )

Some prices are much less , many things are much better
Their croissants are delicious .

RampantIvy · 31/01/2026 22:16

No, two adults, two small children.
Meats and breads get split and frozen.

Hawkinsresident · 01/02/2026 04:00

butter, almond milk, juice
a good bottle of wine
tropical fruits
Washing and cleaning stuff
box of mini pastries
drinks - coke/ flavoured drinks

Enjoy a mooch around new gadgets and kitchen appliances

the anti fatigue mat is a blessing

FairyBatman · 01/02/2026 05:55

We buy the large bags of frozen gyoza, and trays of salt and chilli pork belly, chicken thighs, skirt steak and occasionally salmon fillet all of which I portion and freeze.

We also buy a large tray of danish pastries bag and freeze these singly and DS has one on a Saturday morning for breakfast.

Dishwasher tablets and laundry pods if on offer. Bulk pack of razor maybe once a year!

The cookie trays are what I usually contribute to class parties, thy are pretty good cookies and I can’t make them for what Costco charge. Similarly the cronuts for bake sales or coffee mornings.

RampantIvy · 01/02/2026 07:03

Why are so many people buying bottled water? Is the water really bad where you live?

Our Aussie family member does and yes. My extended family further south also do too.
