How many plants in your main meal today?

DragonsAndDaffs · 28/01/2026 19:01

I've been trying to reduce UPF and increase the amount of plants we eat. We try to eat the rainbow and hit 30 different plants a week.

Dinner tonight was a prawn and edamame stir fry containing 8 plants.

Anyone else trying to eat 30?

I don’t have a goal in mind, I just do my best!
For tea this evening, it was 7, I think.

Enko · 28/01/2026 19:06

I dont aim.for a figure as we have always eaten a wide range of vegetables. Todays meal has 7

foobio · 28/01/2026 19:06

We're pescatarian and enjoy veg, so our meals often contain a lot! Tonight's was 10+
Onion
Garlic
Ginger
Tomato
Coconut
Chickpeas
Cauliflower
Spinach
Sweet potato
Carrot

  • herbs & spices
SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 28/01/2026 19:12

We try to eat as few UPF foods as possible and are currently at a lodge with the family but have still managed a really good week. Tonight is pizza with avocado and tomato salad plus rocket and Parmesan salad (7 plants) and UPF free by using The Northern Pizza dough company.

TomatoSandwiches · 28/01/2026 19:14

We had a pasta and cod dish, fresh tomatoes and mutti passata, fennel, petit pois, spinach, tarragon.

When I meal plan I try to spread it across the week evenly but some meals lend to heavy veg/plant and others not so much.
In the winter months I tend to start dinner off with a small cup of veg and lentil soup then 30 mins later our main.

Barrellturn · 28/01/2026 19:15

I had peanut butter on toast at 11am so I guess that's two. wheat, peanuts - kinda planty?

badboss2020 · 28/01/2026 19:16

rice (comes from a plant?)
tomatoes
kidney beans
sping onions

I have also had an apple, raisins, cashew nuts and dried cranberries

DragonsAndDaffs · 28/01/2026 19:36

The advice is 30 different plants per week, so we use that as an achievable target.

Prawn stir fry tonight....that had 8

I'm trying to increase my fibre so eating a lot more plants than I used to. Tonight we had tacos, veg and homemade coleslaw. It included
Onion,
Garlic
Spices
Asparagus
Broccoli
Sweetcorn
Carrot
Red cabbage
Lemon juice

Earlier in the day I'd also eaten a banana, an apple, peanuts, walnuts, dates and popcorn

NeverDropYourMooncup · 28/01/2026 19:37

Breakfast

Rice
Chilli
Coriander
Tomato
Cucumber
Spring onion
Salmon
Nori
Wasabi

Snack

Cucumber
Cheese
Slice of GF bread (I don't care that it's UPF, it's not virtuous to go without)

Dinner

Carrot
Cabbage
Carrot & cabbage kimchi
Broccoli
Onion
Spring onion
Garlic
Chilli
Ginger
Tamari
Shiro koji
Baby corn
Peas
Green beans
Edamame noodles
Coriander
Chicken
Peanut butter

24 ish in a day already and will probably have an apple, 2 mandarins/satsumas or banana on toast later.

It's pretty easy when you like Chinese/Japanese/Korean food - and it's not exactly difficult to add veg, pulses and spices to curry, rather than a pretty bland bowl of chicken breast and nothing else.

ETA: forgot tea and coffee. They count, too.

The internet says we can - tea is from a plant, coffee is from a plant. If I stick in DP's ginger tea (two types of root ginger, ground ginger, lemon, lime and orange slices), that gives 5 and 6 if he adds some orange juice to boost the vitamin C content.

Vintagegoth · 28/01/2026 20:03

Tomato
Roasted red Pepper

2- DH cooks on Wednesday while I'm out.
Today breakfast 10, lunch 5 so total of 16. Sadly my wine doesn't count
To be fair its not guidance its just a media thing, but its not a bad thing!

sprigatito · 28/01/2026 20:03

My dinner is homemade minestrone soup, so it has carrots, tomatoes, celery, leeks, spring onions, butternut squash, onions, garlic, black beans, puy lentils, fresh parsley…and I suppose there’s wheat in the pasta!

I’ll also be having blueberries, strawberries and some frozen mango for pudding.

OctopusSexArm · 28/01/2026 20:03

Haven't had it yet but will be....
Sweet potato
Rocket
Spinach
Pea shoots
Other salad leaves can't remember
Tomatoes
Cucumber

I should have had yoghurt with blueberries, raspberries, seeds and a banana for breakfast but I've got mastitis, felt like shite and didn't eat anything except a slice of toast 🙈

Pinkladyapplepie · 28/01/2026 20:04

7 in lunch and 7 in dinner.

NamingNoNames · 28/01/2026 20:05
