How many plants in your main meal today?

I've been trying to reduce UPF and increase the amount of plants we eat. We try to eat the rainbow and hit 30 different plants a week.

Dinner tonight was a prawn and edamame stir fry containing 8 plants.

Anyone else trying to eat 30?

Hmmm.. it was pasta with mussels and clams.

Tomato, capers, basil, garlic, onion, bird's eye chili. I'm surprised to make 6!

Breakfast was pretty mega though: black and white rolled oats, flax, pumpkin seeds, cinammon, raisins, walnuts, sunflower seeds, goji berries

And I've also had some baked beans mixed with the m&s 35+ mega mix, hazelnuts, olives, apple, a smoothie (mango, passion fruit, orange) over the course of the day Halo

Meadowfinch · 28/01/2026 20:06

Oats & apple for breakfast. Coffee if that counts (not instant)

Lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, beetroot for lunch plus two satsumas.

Leeks and potatoes for supper.

So 10 so far,

KittyHigham · 28/01/2026 20:08

Just finished a slice of the leftover Christmas mushroom wellington (from the freezer) with veggie gravy , tender stem broccoli and cauliflower so at least 12 in this meal:
Mushrooms
Chestnuts
Pistachios
Carrots
Celery
Shallot
Sundried tomatoes
Onion
Garlic
Thyme
Tomato paste
Broccoli
Cauliflower

Katrinawaves · 28/01/2026 20:09

I’ve just started tracking this and have been well over 40 for the last 3 weeks.

Today for example my lunch had 7 and dinner had another 6 different ones (plus 2 repeated from lunch). Breakfast had 1

Fightingdragonswithyou · 28/01/2026 20:15

For tea I had

Onion
Garlic
Mushrooms
Carrots
Green beans
Broccoli
Baby corn
Potatoes

Apple and orange for dessert.

Dinner time had

Chickpeas
Lemon
Carrots
Pepper
Cucumber

Strawberries
Grapes

Cup of tea too if that counts.

nannyl · 28/01/2026 20:15

I rarely eat less than 15 different plants per day.

I consistently eat 30+ different plants a week.

ClownStar · 28/01/2026 20:19

I usually manage my 30 plants a week! Currently trying to improve fibre.

Tonight's dinner was

Baked sweet potato (1)

Bean and tomato stew (10)
(onion, garlic, kidney beans, green lentils, tomatoes, red pepper, green chilli, red chilli, cumin, coriander)

Broccoli (1)

ObladiObladah · 28/01/2026 20:23

Onion
Garlic
Tomato
red pepper
oregano
potato
broccoli

Seven.

Tomorrow will be a bad one though (pasta carbonara - the only plant will be peas!).

henlake7 · 28/01/2026 20:26

10 for tea, about 10 for the rest of the day too.

ThatWasMyLastFatFreeFrush · 28/01/2026 20:29

Lunch- cucumber, lettuce, tomato, onion
Dinner - lentils, carrot, swede, cabbage, pineapple, onion, garlic, nectarine

foodyum · 28/01/2026 20:39

Hmmm.... Dinner was 5 - rice, carrot, green beans, spring onion and spinach.

Lunch was potato and bacon soup with a roll and pate but shop brought so not sure it counts? Looking at the ingredients though I think there's 4 - potatoes, onions, leeks in the soup and fig in the pate.

Breakfast was porridge with fruit so 2 - blueberries and oats.

I also had a pear as a snack, coffee and a glass of pineapple juice so that's another 3.

So that's 14 today. Not sure if I do the 30 a week though as many of them are repeated.

HappiestSleeping · 28/01/2026 20:42

Pasta tonight, so onion, tomato, garlic, chilli, spaghetti (for those old enough to remember the BBC April Fool about the spaghetti plants). And I have had a couple of pints of liquid vegetables. (Beer isn't animal or mineral, so must, by a process of deduction, be vegetable).

MiddleAgedDread · 28/01/2026 20:42

Don’t know as BF is cooking but it’s stir fry so hopefully a few!
so far today I’ve had:
peaches (tinned)
carrot
cucumber
broccoli
spring onion
green beans
tomato
apple

Gingercar · 28/01/2026 20:44

Toms, onions, leeks, peppers, mushrooms, courgettes and chick peas (veggie curry). Plus grapes and seeds in Greek yogurt for dessert.

RS1987 · 28/01/2026 20:45

Potato, carrot, coffee… not been a good day!

NewYearNewRear · 28/01/2026 20:45

Well tonight was sausage plait with a mixed dressed salad and some stuffed peppers and couscous. That contained:

onion
apple
garlic
lettuce
tomato
cucumber
pepperdew peppers
lemon

So 8, 9 if you include sage in the sausage.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 28/01/2026 20:47

I've eaten four types of berries with Greek yoghurt, two oranges and half a tin of baked beans with cheese, so only 6. It's usually more.

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 28/01/2026 20:48

I get that the point of 30 plants in a week is to encourage variety, but I can't see how tea, coffee, herbs really count. Supposing you had a pizza (wheat, tomatoes, onion, garlic, mixed italian herbs [8 in mix]), ice cream (strawberries, vanilla) and a cup of tea, that would be 15, half the week done alteady.

BadgernTheGarden · 28/01/2026 20:48

Are you talking 30 different or 30 portions a week? 30 different plants I'm not sure I could get to unless you include herbs and spices. Usually aim for 4 veg a night with dinner. Various herbs and spices in the meal. Some fruit juice and fruit, lemon juice or lime juice sometimes in things. Not sure it would ever get to 30 different. Does rice and pasta count? 4 seed mix in the homemade bread?

NailsForChristmas · 28/01/2026 20:49

For dinner I had Thai curry with:
Green beans, sugarsnap peas, red pepper, baby corn, courgette, tofu, coconut milk, with rice.

For tea I had:
Roast butternut squash, white beans and cous cous.

Total 7-10 plants depending on if you consider the coconut milk, rice and tofu plants.

NoTouch · 28/01/2026 20:55
