A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

My DH is so laid-back he's virtually horizontal. Not a lot fazes him, but he'd have killed for a chance to give canvassing Labour bods a piece of his mind (and would probably have unleashed the delinquent GSD we're currently fostering).

Reeves's attacks on the economy put paid to the plan he had to expand his practice, amongst other things. For DH, it's personal.

Yep, its personal for us too. My formerly Labour voting dh is disgusted with them.

Lucky you. I love GSDs! Such gorgeous dogs. 🥰
I grew up with a GSD so they will forever have my heart. Not sure I could cope with the shedding now though lol. I used to look like a yeti going to school. 😂

We weren't too sure how the felines (especially Rodders) would react when we agreed to look after Finley, but the pecking order was swiftly established once he realised cats have sharp claws and aren't afraid to use them.

I would be quite content in your house atm Dancing.
How did I guess that Rodders would be the boss! 😂

@MNLurker1345 thanks for that
Yeah, we were thinking of different definitions

I don't like that term anyway - it's quite woolly.

I'm interested in what you said about managing versus governing.

I thought Labour were quite clear what a vote for them would mean. I knew I wasn't going to vote for them so I wasn't looking at it in detail. I obviously wouldn't believe them if they said they wouldn't put tax up, but I wouldn't believe any party who said that.

In terms of anchoring the ship versus letting it sink, I'm worried that the next leader will be more in favour of letting it sink.

I don't see them as doing anything useful at all really - but I don't think the Tories did anything useful for years either. (if you've been lurking, you might have seen my concerns about very basic infrastructure issues).

Another one bites the dust, apparently. (Am I the only one who's never heard of Jack Lang until five minutes ago?)

Was just saying to DH yesterday, how come it's all USA and British deviants.

God he's not blessed with looks.

I think we're seeing the tip of the iceberg; my money's on a few Russians rising to the surface in due course.

(He's not going to have women swooning in the aisles, for sure, but at 86 I suppose that's a given. His hair colour is definitely suspect.😉)

CruCru · 07/02/2026 19:40

I suspect that the press are focusing on British and American perverts because people have heard of them.

Yep other countries probably have people but Mandelson right in the heart of gov and a royal is right up there for us.

His eyebrows are frightening 🫣

So after a few duds, Crewkerne Gazette have done a terrific job with Keir Starmer on board ship being a very modern model of a modern Prime Minister, Gilbert and Sullivan style.

Do watch to the end, though I suspect you can guess. They could have chosen anyone for that role. I wonder if they're trying to say something.

I'm not sure how much AI is writing the lyrics, but they are very detailed.

There's an AI one I saw Starmer sitting a a piano playing singing OH Mandy. I'll try and find it

There's another I won't put up that's a bit rude.

EmeraldRoulette · 07/02/2026 21:04

Oh, I just assumed we all know the Mandy one! I didn't think Gilbert and Sullivan would get much attention so I thought I'd let you know.

I do like them, but they've had some real duds, these are very much back on form.

There are a few different versions doing the rounds atm. Nice to have some light relief in this horrid news cycle.

It's so bloody sordid. I won't read the articles, watch it on the news. The levels of depravity are just too much.

Lammy going against Starmer with the I warned him take. At this point he’s got very few left. McSweeney and that’s it?

Upstartled · 08/02/2026 08:04

Lammy is the first (current) cabinet minister to go to the press and declare he thought appointing Mandelson was a terrible idea and that he had warned against it. I think that might be significant.

Same. A cabinet minister is a big deal.

Upstartled · 08/02/2026 08:21

Looks like the pr love-in between Ange and Wes is over as the vultures circle the ailing Starmer:

www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/f023f7a44ebb45ec

"Meanwhile, allies of Wes Streeting accused Ms Rayner’s team of “nakedly trying to exploit” the Epstein scandal “for their own political interests”.

Ms Rayner’s friends warned that the Health Secretary’s friendship with Lord Mandelson was a major “risk” factor and put any idea of him as leader in doubt."

Januaryescape · 08/02/2026 09:02

Meanwhile, the average dc pension is already insufficient for a comfortable retirement, but it’ll get
much worse…

Millions more workers may be affected by Reeves’s pension raid

I assume they’ll be able to find some lackey to do this right up until he goes.

Lammy getting the headline is difficult for Starmer though. His cabinet is speaking up and that weakens him a lot.
