You'll never guess what I just found

At the back of a cupboard in our spare room that DH uses for his hobby. Would anyone like to guess what it is?

I'm not quite sure what to do now.

Ooh nice reminder that I've still got some Christmas chocolate to scoff watching Traitors tonight😋😃 Terry's mint choc 'orange' (dreadfully thin and flimsy compared to original ones) AND some Matchmakers. 😃

I'll give you a clue. It is something I'd hidden myself several months ago, and had forgotten all about.

The Christmas tree

My husband's balls since he's come down with a cold?

If that is the case for all men the cupboard might need to be visible from space...

Itiswhysofew · 23/01/2026 18:42

A little kitty 😺

I spent 12 months telling my DS that the box on top of the shelves in the spare room was empty and contained no chocolates. In the end I got it down to show him and it was a full box of Celebrations.

I frequently find chocolate stashes because I’m not a massive fan and if I buy it for myself it’s usually nice dark chocolate. I do have to hide it otherwise it would disappear in a couple of days.

Since Christmas I’ve found a couple of family Christmas cards I forgot I’d bought and a travel clothes steamer I bought for DS to take back to uni. There’s probably more lurking in various cupboards.

Oh go on then...😁

It is my forgotten secret stash of Christmas goodies. A bag of chocolate coins and a box of Turkish delight.

Now. Here's my dilemma:

Which one of those two do I eat whilst watching the Traitors final this evening? One or the other, or both?

Did something similar a few years ago. Bought and stashed (in various places) a number of the round tubs of chocs. Found 2 in the top of the hall coat/cupboard when moving the February after. A few years before that, I found 8 bags of mini choc bars in the back of a clothes drawer!! Found them just before Easter! 😂

Pedallleur · 23/01/2026 18:57

I was hoping for a Narnia type land (no Ice Queen tho).

We did once have a dim-witted cat who trapped herself in that very cupboard. She'd crept inside a collapsible play tent at the bottom and couldn't find her way out of it again. It took us a good few hours to find her. Dopey article. 🐱

I thought the diemma was going to be that you had screamed at your husband for stealing them, but completely forgot that you had hidden them yourself.

silverwrath · 23/01/2026 19:10

Sorry. Posted comment in wrong thread. Because I'm an idiot.

Loobyloolovesandypandy · 23/01/2026 19:15

The inevitable condoms. Do I win?

peppercornrent · 23/01/2026 19:16

Money. It was hidden in a safe place years ago 😁

That happened to me years ago!

zigzag12 · 23/01/2026 19:31

Turkish Delight? So there was a Narnian connection!

How is OP alive if she found this?

I grew up in Essex and Hertfordshire, in a variety of new towns which shall remain nameless to spare their blushes. London ancestors.

I could equally have said "daft ha'porth".

OP posts:
Grammarnut · 23/01/2026 19:33

Both. Check the use by date first, though. Chocolate can do some very odd things as it ages.
I think I preferred the Ark of the Covenant, tbh.
As it happened I found £60 in 20s the other week. Tried one in the pub and it was no longer legal tender. Need to go to the bank. I think I'd have preferred it to be chocolate money.

She might not be an ordinary, unpurified person. She plays a special saxophone for a start!

blacksax · 23/01/2026 19:38

@Grammarnut Fear not, I have just tested a couple of the chocolate coins (in the interests of science, obviously), and they are fine.

Lucky you! I was looking in my wardrobe for a chocolate orange I thought I'd saved from Christmas and then remembered I'd given it to my daughter. Eat the lot and enjoy.
