Truthfully, I think a lot of people in Alberta would be on board with that.

If we could do a trade, Alberta for NY, VT, ME, MA, CA, I'd be amenable to working something out. Not sure if we want NH, but I do have a lovely friend who lives there, so I'll include them.

Maybe throw in Clacton ?

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 23/01/2026 16:27

@PerkingFaintly - yes, that was the point in the clip I had to switch off, I was so flummoxed by his rambling.

Well Farage is anywhere and everywhere but, so I'm not sure that helps.

Could possibly scrape some off the beach.

I might need to lie down to recover from the images that invoked (evoked?)

UK's Prime Minister Keir Starmer slams President Donald Trump for "insulting and frankly appalling" comments about non-U.S. NATO troops in Afghanistan.

Trump posts renderings of an arch he wants to build in DC. He is laser focused on things that matter to the American people.

I TAKE THE BIG ASPRIN.
Yup, When explaining the bruise on his hand, Trump said:
"I take the big aspirin, and when you take the big aspirin, they tell you, you bruise. The doctor said, 'You don't have to take that, sir, you're very healthy.' I said, 'I'm not taking any chances.'"

What I was warned about when I was taking aspirin to thin my blood (as opposed to warfarin, which was what they moved me to eventually) was that it could cause stomach bleeds and stomach ulcers.

Is it very, very wrong of me to hope that if Trump is taking big aspirin (by which I assume he might mean more than 75mg per day) he might get stomach ulcers?

I think the House of Commons should table a motion (for Farage to dodge) asking for an apology.

I realise their is a danger this could make Starmer seem a bit less unpopular. But sometimes you have to take a risk.

(I can't see the US doing anything. But this isn't for them. It's for the families who lost loved ones. To show the UK remembers)

Heather Cox Richardson is holding a very depressing conversation (with two reporters I’ve never heard of) about ICE and the legal system in today’s Trump World.

Oh, they're brilliant, brilliant reporters, multi pulitzer winners. They both were at the Washington Post, she's left and is on MSNBC and the Bulwark, he's still there. Their book about the justice department is fantastic.

NotMeAtAll · 23/01/2026 17:21

If Trump can say what he wants, Starmer should bypass all the proper channels and call Trump a stupid petulant orange cunt.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 23/01/2026 17:22

I'd be happy to have it acknowledged by the US that my daughter was in danger of death every single damn day in Afghan. and literally slept and ate with a loaded weapon in reach at all times in case someone got into the camp and started killing people. Or one of the orderlies or cooks (who were locals) or translators did.

It wasn't just on the front line that people were killed, Corporal Bonespurs.

That sounded like my last boss. She did 2 tours in bomb disposal (you wouldn't think to look at).

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 23/01/2026 17:35

I think the point at which I began to have a slight understanding (only slight, because I was only told about it) of how it was out there came when DD told me she was sitting on a wall in Cyprus where they all got a couple of weeks on their way home, and started to shake and cry because she had just realised that her weapon was not there, panicked, and then realised that was because nobody was likely to be shooting at her now; she simply unravelled from the release of tension.

Something Corporal Bonespurs would know nothing about at all.

Thank you for that information, @walllaw. I am hopeless at remembering names of journalists, authors, actors, film stars, and anyone in the public domain, really. There are only two Washington Post reporters whose names I have ever retained and they are, of course, Woodward and Bernstein. You’d think there’d be a Deep Throat somewhere in those Epstein files.

Not long after I graduated, I went to visit a friend who had moved into a shared house. His housemate was ex-army and had served in the Falklands.

Despite being a bit roughy-toughy, he was prone to some intense behaviour. (Maybe PTSD would have been a diagnosis ?).

I had the briefest of windows into war (a place I never want to go, and thank those that mean I don't have to) when he told a story of advancing to a post and his unit getting into an argument over who had killed the teenager holding it.

War. Is. Hell.

So pleased your DD made it back.
