Interesting one re Greenland. Someone started a thread about a documentary about a town called Maniitsoq, and how they want an Aluminium smelter.
Sad little doc on Greenland | Mumsnet
That got my interest, being an Engineer, because Aluminium smelting does take a massive amount of energy blah blah.. and looking into it " doing my own research", as Trumpists like to say :
TRUMP MIGHT HAVE FUCKED IT UP.
Two decades this has been discussed, and the US company Alcoa ( who have joint ventures in China), were planning on using Chinese workers to build it all. Capitalism always looking for the cheapest way of course, especially with possibly marginal projects like this.

680 MW Project – Tasersiaq Lake Greenland Hydroelectric Project Concept (tasersiaqhydroconcept.com)
This line from the above :
"The original project was abandoned in 2016 when Alcoa Aluminum withdrew. It isn’t clear what precisely led to the project failure. However, there were reports that Alcoa sought a greater cost sharing from the Government of Greenland. There was also considerable effort to reduce the project cost, including re-estimating using lower labor rates, longer work shifts, and the use of lower cost Chinese labor."
So yeah. Capitalism and the way it uses cheap labour is bad. Of course. But from what I can figure out, the project was back on the cards, using Chinese labour to build the dam and plant ( I assume contract it out)
But now with Trump yelling about CHYNA, he might just have gotten this project knocked on the head.
And no, I am not a CPC shill ( very much the opposite), but this is/was a marginal project between a US company and the Greenland Government, using Chinese to do the construction.. and boom. Trumps tantrum might have wrecked it.
