As the incumbent party, they could not deny responsibility for the last five years of anything the electorate are not happy about. As the non-incumbent, Trump could talk any old shite, make any promises, he wanted to.

Had they sorted out potential runners for the job and voted on it in advance, had a new not-Biden presidential candidate ready to go, I doubt Trump would have got in.

Trouble is, both the Dems and the Reps have been neglectful, there's really nobody coming up through the ranks looking like potential leaders. (A bit like here in the UK, sadly.)

I think after the events of the last few months, years, not least the events of the Jan 6th insurrection and now demolishing of part of the WH (just to name a couple) it seems pretty clear that there are infact no checks or balances at all, or at least no meaningful ones that cannot be avoided. I fully expect him to cancel the midterms on some spurious excuse.

I have thought for some time that Trump is insane, in the true sense of the word. He lives in a world of his own, where he is some sort of invincible Emperor, demanding all us plebs, countries as well as people, bow down before him. He's manipulable - Putin's got that off pat - and forgetful.

It drives me dotty hearing US and European politicians downplay his mad rantings as just his way, he's mercurial, he's playing 4D chess, he has a deeper plan - no, the man is demented and he has the nuclear codes!

I just wonder what on earth he thinks he is achieving, because each act / text/ speech / tweet.... whatever.... makes him look ever more desperate.

I'm thinking next Xmas, when I get a small plastic gnome in my cracker, I might tie a ribbon to it and send it to him with a little note telling him he's been awarded it for being the ' BIGLIEST PEACEFULLEST PRESIDENT IN WESTERLY HISTORINESS' ..and it will be presented to the sound of cheers and clapping by a press ganged audience and to the soundtrack of some band that DEFINITELY doesnt want to be associated with him.

It's now been revealed that all money from seized Venezuela oil is being deposited directly to an offshore account in Qatar, personally controlled by Trump. He has promised to return it to the USA and Venzuela at some point. I can't fathom how and why they are letting him get away with all this.

Oh and his "Peace Board" controlled by him and membership by nations will cost 1 billion dollars each payable to him. Putin has been invited and so has Netanyahu. It's all too crazy.

The year that he has been back in office feels like about 10. I keep telling myself that one day we will wake up to find he has gone but it is going to be a long and dangerous road until that happens and the harm he is doing looks irreparable both for the US and the wider world. It is insulting to toddlers to compare him with one; at least they have charm and humour and will mature.
