Anyone preparing for a lot of snow tomorrow?

We're in Leicestershire and it looks like we're due quite a bit.

West Mids here it’s been snowing heavily since about 6.30pm looks deep out there!

Haven’t seen any cars braving our road for last couple of hours the tracks that were there at about 22.30 are covered & can see a couple of phone lines down along the road.

snow map site is nice to watch for those not even had a flutter

HashtagShitShop · 09/01/2026 00:26

North Lincolnshire is very wet and very windy at the moment but touch wood that's all. We had some snow at the end of last week which has gone now, however it's been like ice rinks out there, especially on the paths

Kitterkitkat · 09/01/2026 00:27

It's 3° here, edge of Cornwall. Some rain and wind but not heavily.

It sounds like some of you are having a much worse time 🥶

colouringindoors · 09/01/2026 00:27

Heavy rain all evening in the Chilterns has finally stopped. On edge of the snow warning area but not holding my breath...

colouringindoors · 09/01/2026 00:29

Forecast has changed from sleet to snow in the early hours so we shall see!

If they are off anymore they will have to make the time back in summer!! 😂😂

That sounds like a plan!

Are our weather events as bad or as frequent as those other countries suffer? Of course not, but when days like today happen it's not nothing either.

I am in south-west Leics and have just struggled to drive home from an ill-advised outing, a distance of only a few miles, on roads covered in snow and ice. I was driving extremely slowly and carefully but still skidded several times, anyone going much faster would really have been in trouble. Over a very short distance I saw abandoned cars, stranded people, and at one point a smashed car that had clearly been involved in some kind of collision, and I'm not just talking about the odd dent here.

Friends driving home from the same event have reported seeing the same things, plus in one instance a car slipping down a hill because its tyres weren't able to grip. There will have been accidents this evening, I hope no one has been injured but it wouldn't surprise me if they had been, unfortunately. I'm counting my blessings to have got home without damage to either my car or myself and have definitely learnt my lesson about ignoring weather warnings.

Personally, though, I think it's pretty crass to dismiss weather events like today's as 'nonsense' merely because they don't happen with the frequency or severity experienced in other countries.

Oh hi neighbour

What nonsense.

We’re British.

I shall wear a hat.

Sheree101 · 09/01/2026 02:46

Also forgot to mention all our schools have not been open all week. That means they have had 3 weeks off and ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!! I need some silence back 😂

d317 · 09/01/2026 03:31

Mid Wales here and yes there’s snow here but not deep, just an inch and no wind has happened at all.

I was expecting more, as there was a lot of fuss about how bad it would be, we had more snow last week than this.

i bet it rains next and it’ll be all washed away.

Rowgtfc72 · 09/01/2026 03:53

Woken up on the east coast to torrential rain and strong winds. Biking to work in an hour......

Also on the edge of the chilterns... every time I got up with the baby I looked outside hoping for snow but no such luck, just seems very wet and windy this morning so no snow day for DD 😔

PersephoneParlormaid · 09/01/2026 06:23

I’m in the NW and we haven’t had even a drop of rain, no wind.

I always smile when schools close as my dad was a head teacher and he never closed his school. On very cold days he used to say they would have a longer assembly and if the children sang their hearts out they would feel warm.

I worked at a school like that. Several teachers had car accidents on the way in, one member if staff broke an arm, classes combined and nothing learnt by students.

Augustus40 · 09/01/2026 06:41

We are near Nottingham which they say is badly affected.

Wondering if the binmen.can work.

D s is in London until Sunday. Hope the trains will be running ok by then to get home!

TroysMammy · 09/01/2026 06:59

South Wales, Swansea, we did have snow around 10pm nothing stuck as it rained. It was fascinating watching the snowflakes being blown around by the wind under the street lights. It looked like white starling murmurations dancing this way and that.

Theredjellybean · 09/01/2026 07:10

Gloucestershire/ Herefordshire border and not a snowflake to be seen...just wet and foggy.

Want to know where the apocalyptic snow for the west Midlands is ???

StarCourt · 09/01/2026 07:16

I’m in The midlands, it’s snowed none stop since 8pm last night

RampantIvy · 09/01/2026 07:18

We have a little snow, yet all the morning trains have been cancelled. What an over reaction.

This country seems to be getting more and more risk averse.
