I'm lying down too!

As someone who is bloody knackered most of the time I have to battle my feelings of guilt when I lie down. But honestly.... think of it as saving energy so our loved ones get our best. :)

Boo hiss to the accidental bus lane incursion @mumofoneAloneandwell Thanks

Quote for waste removal came back- £40. Amazing. I have accepted. TBH i think I will do that a couple of times instead of a skip. I think i mentioned it is a company set up by a young school leaver. So hats off to her. The boiler also came in significantly less than we expected. Like £200 less. So i am considering using the money I 'saved' taking the DCs out for dinner. DH is away again until the end of next week.

WinterFrogs · 20/01/2026 12:40

Hello all! It's busy round here 😀
I work from my bed when it's just emails too sometimes.
Bah to bus lanes and boilers and shower breakdowns.
We have a new bus lane in the local town and it's nearly caught me a couple of times.

Best wishes to you @Peridot1
Have we seen @crivit since she got her new sharp bicycle brakes?

I don't use dualingo but I'm looking at some of our English language patterns and they must be difficult to learn.

I'm getting ahead with sorting and organising so I'm feeling much more clear headed.

I have been doing some furniture rearranging and amazed myself with how easy it is. My tendency is to just put up with things as they are, but I've been affected by a touch of motivation 😁

I'm also reading my first ever Agatha Christie!

Hmm, project job 🤔 Bulb for spare room overhead light. Been relying on a table lamp.

FurForksSake · 20/01/2026 12:42

“Affected by a touch of motivation” 🤭🤣🤭🤣🤭👏👏👏

WinterFrogs · 20/01/2026 12:44

Laugh all you like but these things don't happen often 😂😂😂

FurForksSake · 20/01/2026 12:46

They don’t for me either, it’s the perfect expression!

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 20/01/2026 12:48

i am rarely affected by a touch of motivation.... but often affected by a case of raging apathy. Grin

Which Agatha Christie @WinterFrogs ? One of my faves is The Murder of Roger Ackroyd if you are looking for another one to read.

WinterFrogs · 20/01/2026 12:57

I was sidetracked while posting so missed your post @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia 💐 Result with the boiler - nice to hear good news!
I've taken a mental health day ( in other words I'd already booked the day but I am being wholesome - apart from the two wispas I've just eaten 🙃)

Just off to meet a friend for a walk.

Edited

I have those too from time to time but recently I've mostly been powered by coffee and cortisol and my nervous system requires a reset.

Ed to add, 'Appointment With Death'. I grew up reading 'old' books and I sometimes wonder if that's why my writing occasionally has a tendency to be a bit pompous 🤣 I'm not at all pompous irl but my speech is definitely different to my writing style

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 20/01/2026 13:01

A 'day off' is just the ticket. Smile

Hope you feel refreshed. Thanks

FurForksSake · 20/01/2026 13:39

I think there’s a new Agatha Christie on Netflix. I might see if dh fancies it after his squirrel meeting.

Boiler man came, flicked something and unstuck the stuck thing. Five minute job. He then looked at the two showers and will liaise with husband. I spent longer tidying than he was here. No bill though, so there’s that.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 20/01/2026 13:48

That's a result!!

I've just had a look at our Room of Doom.

I'll give myself 10 minutes tidying in there and then will review as to whether or not it really just needs a Shut Door.

FurForksSake · 20/01/2026 13:49

Thank god for doors.

RunningKatie · 20/01/2026 15:23

Afternoon all, I am typing on the sofa, have been off work today and yesterday with a sickness bug.
I've even taken to my bed this afternoon which annoyed the dog as he was sunbathing up there!
Anyway, think I'm on the mend, I've done a bit of lego and also done a click & collect supermarket order for when dh is back.
I love Agatha Christie, both Poirot and Miss Marple. I grew up watching Joan Hickson playing Miss Marple on tv and no-one does it better.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/01/2026 19:00

Mumofone, you might want to try just changing your passwords and blocking the unwanted calls and texts as they come in. Do the sane with your emails. That helped me a lot. I still get 50+ phishing emails a day, though as I've had at least 4 ID hacks of my info at places I had signed up to, ie Loyalty Programs, Booking sites.

Lots of lying down. 👏
We don't take breathers enough.
For those dealing with anxiety or over-stimulation, blocking light and sound can help:
eye mask and ear plugs. Then deep focused breathing. Try for 15 mins. 😊

Contractor coming by here to quote cupboard and closet repair.
Kids to dentist after. ⏱️

Have got tv news on and a load of laundry in.
Wiped kitchen floor; folded and put clothes away. Kids are mostly ready to go.

Sun with high cloud here. Fog advisory again.
It's 3c.

WinterFrogs · 20/01/2026 21:14

AI has had an eye on our recent comments and ads for a stair lift have shown on this thread.

Hope you feel better soon @RunningKatie 💐

Peridot1 · 21/01/2026 11:51

Hello all.

I survived my audio-vestibular tests yesterday. Apparently I have lost some hearing of high frequencies and the guy advised I think about hearing aids…😱…. I get the results of everything later this afternoon.

Having a house day today. Laundry, changing a bed and dusting room, vacuuming etc. Hallway is a mess again. Full of stuff from the car which is at the garage on mouse-hunt and stuff I want to put into gym but it chucking it down here.

I keep meaning to read some Agatha Christie. I read some years ago. My sister loves them. I think there is some sort of exhibition about AC in London this year. My sister is very keen to come over for it.

Have a good day all.

RunningKatie · 21/01/2026 12:33

We're going to the Sherlock Holmes museum on our next London jaunt. Just looked up the Agatha Christie exhibition @Peridot1 - think I might have to come down for that too.
Still lounging on the sofa with the dog, thought I was on the mend but getting everyone ready for school proved too much.
Managed to do some handwashing so counting that as a job for today, I'm going to have another nap and contemplate dc1's birthday list.

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 21/01/2026 13:22

Is anyone else feeling a bit... Wednesdayish?! Really hard to Get Up And Go today over here, despite copious amounts of coffee.

Very impressed with @RunningKatie and the hand-washing, I dread it like the plague.

Over yesterday and today I did manage to list five things, and do lots of laundry, and book a gp appointment for Monday, and buy a friend's birthday present (online) so not too shabby.

I'm now listening to a teams meeting off camera and will do a ten minute tidying blitz while it drones on.

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 21/01/2026 13:23

@mumofoneAloneandwell re Duolingo, I can't believe how much better I feel already!!

SpiritOfEdna · 21/01/2026 14:37

What - a Sherlock Holmes museum!!! How have I missed that - I should have fitted it in on my trip last week #sad. It's a bit wild out there in the wider MN - when I saw the news about the Beckhams I knew MN would be all over it. Taking refuge in this little corner!

I was walking SpiritDoggo in the park yesterday and nearly got runover by a little sod on an electric bike they must have been doing 20 miles an hour, they said sorry and then hurled abuse at me for telling them to watch where they were going! They could not have been more than 10 years old.

Today

  • Finance admin - payday on Friday and a bathroom refurb to pay for!
  • no holidays this year, but to keep me sane am planning on a return to the Camino Frances next year to pick up where I left off; but will sort out accommodation etc myself, so pricing that up, lol and a savings account with no money in.. I have my map out 😄
  • Desk. Again.
  • Need to wash a load of gym kit for tomorrow.
Busy day, our good developer has gone of sick for the day, so fielding irate colleagues 😄, SoE

Good morning, everyone! Wow - lots of busy bees getting thing done! 👏🩷

Wand vacuum of couches, area rug, under couches a bit, breakfast area;
Large load of laundry on (towels, washcloths, bathtub mat);
dishwasher on;
put most of dc's clothes away;
cleaned bathroom.
Assisting my mum with phone oncology appt later.

While I was cleaning the bathtub Havoc said, "You're a good washer, mummy! ... You should clean the toilet!"

😵‍💫

WinterFrogs · 22/01/2026 07:23

"Out of the mouths of babes" or some such quote @Mumtobabyhavoc 😆 My eldest once said 'who's coming here mummy?' at about the same age when I was cleaning the kitchen 😳
Definitely refuge here @SpiritOfEdna! Excited for you that you're doing more of the Camino walk!

What is it about duolingo @mumofoneAloneandwell and @SingleThreadJoiner2 ? Is it addictive or does it nag? I've managed to completely absent myself from FB by changing my password then forgetting it. I've done the thing where they send a code to my phone, but then it times out and I still can't get in, and it's got to the point where I feel free and won't bother any more. My fomo has become jomo!

I didn't know about the Agatha Christie exhibition @Peridot1! I will look it up. Interesting about your hearing. Wishing you all the best for your other results.

How are you doing @petalpower ?

I'm having a slow start today, busy ignoring work messages, which I will address at a more reasonable hour. Just made a second coffee and I will read a bit more Aggie ( it's an ancient paperback so I am handling with extreme care!)

Have a great day everyone ☕️ 🍰

WideOpenBeaches · 22/01/2026 07:36

Morning!
I had a busy day yesterday… must have been busy as I actually slept really well last night.

  • met up with new post DA mentee. Lots of tears from her and yet another heartbreaking story of how a man can turn a wife’s life and health around on coercive and controlling behaviour. Grrr. 😡
  • Shopped for a supper I’m hosting on Saturday.
  • Long chat with IFA and a tricky decision to make…
  • went to a new Zumba class which not only required physical energy but mental energy to follow the steps. It would have helped if I hadn’t stood at the back 🤣

Today is prepping a spanikopita (sp?) and doing a bit of decluttering. Trying to keep my hall and entrance clear; I’m a fan of a bit of gentle Feng Shui and it certainly helps my mindset when I come home.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/01/2026 07:50

Winter: I'm same with FB. Haven't really checked it since before the pandemic.

Just listening to a podcast on my list. It's super foggy here.

Baital · 22/01/2026 08:04

Day off today and tomorrow!

Today, batch cooking and tidying a couple of kitchen cupboards.

But first, walk the dog before the rain sets in 😀
