Reassure me that not everyone is out having fun!

Am feeling sad tonight after seeing photos/videos of old school mum friends having a lovely evening together with their kids.

We are in bed at normal times and don't really celebrate NYE, I am feeling like our kids are missing out as we don't have friends like that (they are 13 & 8) and they will grow up thinking that we're boring!!

I know I'm being negative, and am better these days at acknowledging my sadness and moving on, so please indulge me and tell me if you are also having a "normal" evening!

You’re not alone!

Summergarden · 31/12/2025 23:11

Definitely not, always hated NYE and the sense of feeling I should go out… makes me rebel and do the opposite! Most people I know prefer to stay at home and there’s no place I’d rather be.

sfamsua · 31/12/2025 23:11

Nope, you’re not alone. Comparison is the thief of joy! (I need to constantly remind myself of this!)

Seahorsesplendour · 31/12/2025 23:11

Our 7 yr old didn’t even know it was new year 🫣 had a tough week & just needed an early night so that’s what he had and we’re sat watching a film really needing some us time.

Liverly · 31/12/2025 23:11

I’m home solo

Givemelemonsforlemonade · 31/12/2025 23:12

I'm tucked up in my bed already.

PlazaAthenee · 31/12/2025 23:12

I'm about to nip to the loo then settle down to sleep after a bit of doomscrolling. I have no desire to stay up way past my bedtime and start the new year tired.
I was just listening to an owl in the town outside my window which is better than a noisy party.

PermanentTemporary · 31/12/2025 23:12

Just gone to bed, recovering from watching A House of Dynamite. Dp had a nasty episode of reflux over Christmas, possible ulcer, and has just started medication, so we are eating really plain food, certainly no alcohol, and it is bliss to be in bed with a cat each.

I’ll admit we were invited out tonight. I said we had plans. I didn’t admit that our plans involved an evening on the sofa and a plate of pasta.

Bourneo · 31/12/2025 23:13

I'm in bed after a very chilled evening NYE isn't all is made out to be xx

Bumpinthenight · 31/12/2025 23:13

We're home with DD (18). Had a picky tea - her choice and watching Wicked. It will finish at 1150 in time for us to watch the fireworks and then go to bed!

Mrspatmoresapprentice · 31/12/2025 23:13

Well, I’m still awake, but currently drinking a massive mug of green tea 🤣 Rock and roll!
Definitely not out “having fun” but I am exactly where I want to be 🥰

Gowlett · 31/12/2025 23:13

I’m under a blanket, demolishing last of the Haagen Dazs…

Berlinlover · 31/12/2025 23:15

I’m at home watching Andre Rieu with my partner. I can’t wait for the clock to strike midnight so I can go to bed.

AlwaysAFaithful · 31/12/2025 23:15

It’s bloody freezing outside. I am inside with the TV on and the dog on my lap. Every now and again I’m getting texts from friends who are out and wish they weren’t. One of them isn’t quite sure how she’s going to get home. I’m sooooo glad to be at home in the warmth 😁🥳

happy New Year, everyone 🎈❤️

StarsTwinklingPomanders · 31/12/2025 23:15

Empress13 · 31/12/2025 23:16

What with the price of drinks on NYE lack of taxis and going out in the cold been there got the T-shirt! Nowadays I’m very happy, as I believe the majority of people are going by what I’ve read, staying in with a bottle of bubbly and Netflix ! Happy days and happy NY OP

boymamaof3 · 31/12/2025 23:17

Kids went to bed at normal time, nothing out of the ordinary except doing a couple of sparklers before bedtime routine. We’ve been having a drink or two and have just got into bed, only chance of seeing midnight is if the baby happens to wake up around that time

PhantomOfAllKnowledge · 31/12/2025 23:17

Quiet one here! We'll see the bells then head to bed.

Kitterkitkat · 31/12/2025 23:18

Lots of us are at home @Wedontdothatroundhere :)

FairViewRosie25 · 31/12/2025 23:20

Got a snoring dog on my lap. Glass of wine will be in bed in a bit

SoUncertain · 31/12/2025 23:23

We went to an early fireworks display for families. DD was really overwhelmed and cried, even though she usually likes fireworks. DH offended me, and we are now sat doing our own things vaguely waiting for midnight to go to sleep. 😐

AliasGrape · 31/12/2025 23:24

We did go out this afternoon to a kids event with DD, had a couple of friends call round with their DD but they’ve just left about half an hour ago as both of the girls hit a wall. This is probably the latest we’ve stayed up on a NYE in a good few years though, I’m in pjs with a bedtime tea debating whether to force myself to stay up till midnight just because, but realistically we’ll probably head to bed once I’ve finished this.

brennanbones · 31/12/2025 23:25

I’m in bed with the cat, nursing my foot which I dropped a candle on Hmm
my 75yo dad is at “a late one, don’t ring me”

GrannyTeapot · 31/12/2025 23:26

I don’t do forced gaiety very well. I’ve been in on NYE every year for thirty years - it used to be with Jools Holland before I found out it was pre-recorded, now I have a hot bath and a new book. A lovely night.

Dollybantree · 31/12/2025 23:26

Out of my friendship group of 7 women (40’s) we are ALL in our respective homes having quiet ones! My DCs are teens now and out at parties etc - as it should be. Wine n nibbles and jools Holland for me.

DM commented to me earlier as dd 19 headed out with her friends “I bet you wish you were off out with them don’t you”? And I could reply with complete honesty “absolutely not” 😂
