Reassure me that not everyone is out having fun!

Am feeling sad tonight after seeing photos/videos of old school mum friends having a lovely evening together with their kids.

We are in bed at normal times and don't really celebrate NYE, I am feeling like our kids are missing out as we don't have friends like that (they are 13 & 8) and they will grow up thinking that we're boring!!

I know I'm being negative, and am better these days at acknowledging my sadness and moving on, so please indulge me and tell me if you are also having a "normal" evening!

Thank you all for your stories of a low key NY. The friends were all at someone's house, kids together. Made me feel sad we didn't have that, but I know we're not alone.

Chilled day today watching the last Stranger Things and taking the decs down. Boys are currently gaming and seem happy, which is the main thing 😊

No, definitely not alone. I see lots of these photos on Facebook and instagram. Everyone in big friend groups having fun. It always looks like fun and im sure for a lot of people it is but I have my sneaking suspicions that many of these big gatherings are also kids arguing and parents feeling stressed with snapshots of enjoyment.

Me and DH and our 2 kids went to a house party where there were many other families of 4, all same ages. It was brilliant fun and we all enjoyed it. My DB Was at home with just his cat, watching stranger things and having a beer and left over Christmas snacks. He really enjoyed a quiet night after a stressful Christmas.
Both fun, totally different. Don't compare and get jealous or sad or assume it's only good in photos to make yourself feel better. Either do something fun or enjoy your quiet night in.

I know New Year's Eve is over, but I had a very quiet night at home. I invited my Dad up, so he wouldn't be on his own. I'd planned on having a glass of wine or a gin and 7Up. But DD went to a party and I ended up having to collect her at 1 a.m. So I couldn't even have a drink.

In my younger days, I often went out on New Year's Eve. But it wasn't as much fun as I anticipated. For example, I remember having to dodge lecherous middle aged men, who thought it was acceptable to ask every young girl for a kiss at midnight on New Year's Eve. And having to queue for an expensive taxi on a bitterly cold December night. I'm happy to spend it in my pyjamas and dressing gown these days.
