Reassure me that not everyone is out having fun!

Am feeling sad tonight after seeing photos/videos of old school mum friends having a lovely evening together with their kids.

We are in bed at normal times and don't really celebrate NYE, I am feeling like our kids are missing out as we don't have friends like that (they are 13 & 8) and they will grow up thinking that we're boring!!

I know I'm being negative, and am better these days at acknowledging my sadness and moving on, so please indulge me and tell me if you are also having a "normal" evening!

DH and I are having our first NYE in for the first time in decades. Both of us have some horrible bug, so we're watching a documentary about Dolly Parton and having cups of tea - it's bloody brilliant!

biggestcatmom · 31/12/2025 23:29

I’m here watching TV, DH is in bed, he’s been working today with an early start. DS1 is spending his first NYE in his new home with his fiance. DS2 is in our local with his GF. We’ve done many NYE parties and I feel my work is done, we are all happy.

Barrellturn · 31/12/2025 23:30

We usually go to bed but dc10 wanted to stay up. So I have let them and DH has moaned all night about how it's going to be ridiculously hard to get them up for school next week as a result. I wish he'd go to bed and leave us to have fun!

Myfridgeiscool · 31/12/2025 23:32

I fell asleep under a blanket on the sofa at 9.30pm! DD and I made a trip to the kebab van for tonight’s tea, both very tasty. I’m now in bed listening to the fireworks booming all round us…it’s not midnight yet..

Etsyeasy · 31/12/2025 23:32

I am SO GLAD as well, to be in bed with milk and biscuits and not in the pub with all the enforced jollity!
happy new year everyone!

Fingalscave · 31/12/2025 23:32

Out of my family and friends, I know only one couple who are out tonight. They all seem to prefer to stay at home. I certainly do.

RaininSummer · 31/12/2025 23:32

I'm still up but drinking a big glass of water and unraveling a knitting disaster.

TheDandyLion · 31/12/2025 23:33

We're both in bed already, DH is snoring away. I've got a cold and I'm watching the West Wing.

activetoday · 31/12/2025 23:33

If it helps, all the people I know who are out, actually wish they were in. I know because I’ve already had the texts to tell me. 😆
I’m very happily ensconced indoors with a bottle of wine and the leftover Roses.

drspouse · 31/12/2025 23:34

I'm watching You've Got Mail and eating Christmas cake. DH has gone to bed and the DCs have just come down to get their ear defenders to block out the fireworks. They were very cute in their PJ's (they are 11 and 13 so we don't have much more cute I fear).

edwinbear · 31/12/2025 23:36

I’m in bed, watching TV, with the electric blanket on, it’s arctic outside! 16yr old DS is at a mates house, just put his blanket on for when he gets home. 14yr old DD is messing about with make up in her room. DH is watching TV downstairs with the cat, wrapped under a blanket. I’m warm, cosy and feeling quite smug knowing I’ll be fresh as a daisy tomorrow morning!

mumofoneAloneandwell · 31/12/2025 23:37

Sat infront of Jools Holland with dd xx

BeenChangedForGood · 31/12/2025 23:37

Im in bed doing some online shopping that I definitely should not be doing 💸 5yo is now cuddled up asleep on me after wetting his bed by 10.30pm 🫠 Bed is stripped and I have a pile of laundry now waiting for me in the morning 🤣🥂
To be honest, there’s nowhere else I’d rather be ❤️ …maybe minus all the pee though 🫠

Happy New Year to you all when it comes ☺️

Illbethereinaminute · 31/12/2025 23:38

I had work until 9 then home to watch a film. Kids were in full spirits but everybody is flagging now. However, we've got this far, we can't give you now!

Kittylicker · 31/12/2025 23:39

Alone watching Jules Holland , A waste of time trying to sleep when it will be very loud fireworks near me for at least an hour. Ronny Wood looks quite elderly!!!

Festivalofcheese · 31/12/2025 23:40

Well I'm a single parent and my DS is fast asleep so I'm sat here watching Ronan Keating and a box of Celebrations. I'm doing ok.

Pyjamatimenow · 31/12/2025 23:41

We took the kids out today and it was a bit of a disaster so we’re all in separate parts of the house now trying to find some peace! Very boring

Yep. I'm on the sofa enduring enjoying Ronan Keating warbling away and waiting impatiently for the fireworks so that I can go to bed. Happy New Year fellow MNetters.

huuskymam · 31/12/2025 23:43

I'm babysitting my grand daughter who's asleep since 7, 15 year old has been in bed since 11 cause hes too tired to stay out, both adult kids are out with friends, dh is watching TV in a different room. Im bored out of my head .

Changingplace · 31/12/2025 23:43

Not even had a drink, I couldn’t be bothered, watched Gremlins and now got Jools Holland on, I am not I fear better than the Hootenanny.

Lovelanza · 31/12/2025 23:43

I’m home alone by choice. Can’t wait to go to bed but the bloomin fireworks are just ramping up grr

suki1964 · 31/12/2025 23:44

Im sat here, DH is away to bed over an hour ago , Im watching Stranger Things and wondering can I actually keep my eyes open long enough to watch the fireworks on the TV

Luckily Im old now, Im not expected to be out having a ball

But my memories of "having a ball' arent great

TBH I find and did find , the whole idea of letting the year out with a bang a complete let down

Our USUAL NYE night , is a couple of drinks with friends early evening. Home for a supper that's let me off the cooking, then a good movie and a couple more drinks with the `London Fireworks on the TV. - and bed

Our best NYEs were playing Monopoly with a carpet picnic

NYE, its only a big deal for those that can afford to party the night away The house parties of my youth are a thing of the past and my days of paying vast amounts of money for mass catering for a night out - they too have passed

RescueMeFromThisSilliness · 31/12/2025 23:44

DH has gone to bed and I'm sitting here doing very little. Can't be arsed with all that partying nonsense, and I'll be having to calm my cat down later when our inconsiderate neighbours let off their whopper fireworks. You know the ones - they sound like a bomb going off. All windows closed and curtains drawn, but he still gets scared, poor chap.

Emergencysandwich · 31/12/2025 23:44
