Things that sound nice but actually aren't

I'm putting forward Fruit teas.
Some of the combinations sound so promising and positively delicious.

In reality, they taste what I imagine drinking pot pourri to be like.

Christmas markets - overpriced, over hyped, just a cold crowded and expensive way to get drunk on crap booze and buy tat from mid Nov to the new year…..when did they become such a ‘must do’ festive event?

I clicked agree and now turn down any invitations for day trips / coach trips out to them !

Bookaholic73 · 30/12/2025 16:23

Everyone’s talking about food and nice things…my first thought was ‘sex in the shower’. Slippery, not enough space, nowhere near as sexy as portrayed in the movies.

I’ll see myself out. 😂

stollenisthebest · 30/12/2025 16:24

Agree with fruit teas being disappointingly insipid.

Salted caramel - better without the salt.

Sex in a shower. Or a bath. Or anywhere that isn't a nice comfy bed actually.

The snow if you have to go out in it - looks picturesque through a window but treacherous underfoot or in a car.

Having a lie-in. I always wake up early but can only stay in bed for about 10 mins before I start getting bored.

Fruit teas smell nice but just have that nasty normal vomit inducing tea taste.

Ha! Two of us thought the same thing!

TheKateColumbo · 30/12/2025 16:26

Resort hotel holidays. There’s a reason the adverts usually show them empty or with only one or two families.
Baileys hot chocolate at a Christmas event. I fall for it nearly every year and end up paying £7 for a crappy hot chocolate that tastes like it was made in a cup that is mildly haunted by Baileys and nasty synthetic cream is an extra £1.

I love spa days, yoga and goats cheese though.

mrspk · 30/12/2025 16:26

I really like Twinings Glow fruit tea, think it is strawberry and cucumber which sounds odd but tastes nice. The Focus one is decent too. I don't like coffee but wish I did. Agree on hot tubs, I'm not sure how often they change the water and always think people have been having sex in them.

Sex full stop . I'll sort myself out thanks . At least I know what to do !

Dontlletmedownbruce · 30/12/2025 16:28

Holidays in the sun with young children.

Christmaseree · 30/12/2025 16:28

Silky satin bedding, my DH tried it for one night and we sweaty, slipping about everywhere and the sheet would stay on the mattress. It was a complete disaster.

notacooldad · 30/12/2025 16:29

Flotation tanks. I was so bored
Spa days I get bored
Dessert bars. Not worth the calories.
Relaxing baths - they aren't!
Head massage at hairdressers. I hate them.
Relaxing mood music at beauty salon. - winds me up. I prefer silence.

bleakmidwintering · 30/12/2025 16:29

Christmas- sounds nice but the build up starting in September has ruined it.
Agree on spas. Went in one two days ago and came out shivering and felt meh.
Meals out- cost £100 and just feel uncomfortable.

Sourdough bread. Far too chewy.
Brioche. Neither bread or cake.

Also toasted sourdough in restaurants. It takes ages to toast properly so nine times out of ten it's hardened lukewarm raw bullshit

Im disappointed in most shop bought or restaurant cheesecakes but home made is usually yummy!

So true. I made a NY Baked Cheesecake before. First time I made it it was delicious. Not so much the other times. Worked out quite expensive for my hit and miss skills.

I want the cheesecake Rachel and Chandler had in Friends. I dream about it.

Traveling for work. Sure it’s nice to see new cities and countries and eat out with colleagues and not have to pay for it yourself but it was a lovely 21° evening when I got here and the very next morning it was -22°. What the actual fuck.

This to the power of ten.

To think I spent my early career hugely envious of anyone getting to travel for work. Zero interest now.

My company will only pay for economy, however long the journey. As someone who detests flying and can only put up with it with the promise of an amazing holiday at the other end I’ve already decided that I will point blank refuse to do any long haul trips.

Menna06 · 30/12/2025 16:31

CenterParcs

MrsR87 · 30/12/2025 16:31

Aperol spritz.

It sounds so refreshing, the colour is so pretty and when they have the lovely garnishes, they look beautiful.

The taste on the other hand…vile. Give me a gin and tonic or cool crisp white wine any day!

Happyhettie · 30/12/2025 16:32

Spa days. I just don’t understand them. Too many people, not at all relaxing and I don’t want anyone touching me.

Hot tubs. They are so noisy and I don’t want to share bath water with other people thank you. To make it worse, a comedian and I can’t remember who referred to them as ‘garden sex ponds’ 🤢

Christmas Day and New Years Day walks. Why are people obsessed with this? Why don’t they go for walks on other days? Why are they all out to spoil my nice quiet walk?

Shopping Centres: No daylight / fresh air / way to escape easily. Awful at the best of times. But the last couple of days there have been so many Facebook posts by people I know stuck in traffic jams waiting to get in to the full car parks. And then a couple of hours trapped in their cars trying to get out of the car parks. Why?!!

MyDeftDuck · 30/12/2025 16:34

Any type of fast food…….sorry folks! 🤷‍♀️

CautiousOptimist · 30/12/2025 16:38

Breakfast in bed. Urgh. Crumby and uncomfortable actually.
And holidays with babies and toddlers, unless there’s an awesome kids club where they’re happy and spoilt and you can have a break.

UncleTed · 30/12/2025 16:41

EchoedSilence · 30/12/2025 15:17

Goats cheese. Tastes like a goat smells.

Agreed!

Spa days - total boredom in a dressing gown
NYE “out” - expensive, disappointing, stressful
Fish n chips - 1000 calories and 40 quid wasted
Champagne - instant headache
Weddings - boredom and headache
Hello Fresh etc - minuscule portions

Don't like any of those things apart from fish and chips lol

I made one and it just tasted like egg 🤢

FussyFancyDragon · 30/12/2025 16:45

I keep falling into the fruit tea trap. They sound lovely or promise some amazing benefits, but then taste of soapy water.
