How much work are you actually doing? (Appreciate if you work in retail you can't exactly slack off). But I have practically nothing to do. Just keeping an eye on my laptop at this stage...

Community - no one wants planned visits this time of year so it's all the "click through about whether you'd make toast if the building was on fire" and "do you put a flamethrower in the black waste bin" shite.

General practice.

Still getting asked if we're open over Christmas ffs...
(now considering setting fire to a waste bin but I'm sure everyone would wait until the fire brigade had been and sit back down to wait....)

I’m in retail & finish at 5 on Christmas Eve. Then not working again until New Year’s Day. It was busy yesterday but not manic.

Just double check your roster to be sure!

FourForksSake · 22/12/2025 14:57

WFH, very few working, judging by my Teams chat screen. The ones that are working tend to be those, like me, who blow their annual leave on big holiday trips.
Currently writing a report needed for first week of Jan. But have also had the oven repair man round (thank goodness he fixed it), about to put on laundry, and listening to Bill Nighy’s podcast.

Isadora2007 · 22/12/2025 15:07

I’m a nurse so always busy!! More so this week as we run a skeleton service for Thursday and Friday so have been seeing extra patients or moving visits from Thursday to Wednesday etc to make up for it.

Congratulations on your retirement! May it be a long, healthy and happy one - I bet you've earned it!

Thank you, I’m looking forward to switching off properly!

Horrorscope · 22/12/2025 16:32

My work NEVER dries up. You do one case, then do another one, ad infinitum.

We have high daily targets and the work requires a high level of concentration, so there’s not much slacking off 😂

Holdonforsummer · 22/12/2025 16:33

Healthcare. Busier than usual.

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 22/12/2025 16:40

I popped into the office earlier to pick up a present from someone, and it was like a ghost town.

Came home via Next and B&M as they were on the way home (2.5 hours round trip), approved some expenses, approved some purchase orders, sent out a meeting invite, and then just sat with my laptop open. Not quite sure where the time went as I wasn't actually doing anything.

First time I've worked around Christmas since 2005 when I worked in retail. It's quite alien to me 😂.

PuppyMonkey · 22/12/2025 16:46

We were mad busy until last Thursday but now everything is done and dusted for the v v year. I’m just mucking about on a project that doesn’t have to be completed till the new year for the next few days. And drinking lots of tea. Boss let us go home ten minutes early today. We’ll be in the office till 1pm on Christmas Eve.

Natsku · 22/12/2025 16:48

I've taken today and tomorrow off but I'm back at work next week. Work in a factory and there is plenty of work to be done generally speaking but whether I'll actually be able to get much done next week depends on who else is working and if we have the materials we need.
Friday was the last day for many people and everyone seemed to have given up doing anything by 10am Grin

carbonelthecat · 22/12/2025 16:50

I'm freelance and bill for hours done, but don't have anything urgent to do so am really not very focussed today, but it is only affecting future me!

I keep telling myself that future me will be grateful if I do some proper work this afternoon, but it's not really working!

DH on the other hand was planning to be fairly slack today and tomorrow, but has ended up really busy as his boss is now in when he was planning to be off!

DancingInTheMoonlights · 22/12/2025 16:59

Norralot!

GreyCloudsLooming · 22/12/2025 17:19

Really busy. I work in TV. Christmas and New Year specials are coming out of my ears! And a lot of whole box sets and series for DVD, Amazon, iTunes etc all needed yesterday.

Kittylicker · 22/12/2025 17:25

I am retired now , I worked in a NHS Hospital Patients Kitchen & I worked every Christmas Day for the last 15 years I worked there , preparing 800 meals for Patients twice a day & Sandwiches for all staff on duty over Christmas , Thank goodness I am not there now.

ThePandoricaAwakes · 22/12/2025 18:41

I work for local government and am working up until 4.30 on Christmas Eve! Loads of people finished on Friday and just dumped all their work on me which apparently all needs completing before Christmas! Happens every year!

Judellie · 22/12/2025 18:47

I have plenty to do but a lot of it was because Thursday is my day off anyway and I took Friday off, so catching up with emails etc.
DD works in retail so I didn't take any other days off but she now thinks she might have 30th off.

AfraidToRun · 22/12/2025 18:48

Busiest fucking week off the year (very unusual) because the new sales people have promised end of year but failed to ask us how long it would take to build the damn things.

Allergictoironing · 22/12/2025 18:48

Local Government for me. Had busier Mondays, but plenty of catching up to do. Boss is off so I'm technically in charge as a) the most senior in by about 6 months and b) the only full timer who isn't quite new to the job. Had to juggle 2 staff needing GP appointments, 1 of them urgent with the possibility of them having to go off sick so worked on juggling who will do what depending on whether she's back tomorrow or not, and if so whether she needs to WFH. Another staff member soldiering on through a lurgy, so trying to keep her on less complex tasks.

In tomorrow, likely to be a mad rush in the afternoon as urgent requests flood in when people realise that we are closed on Wednesday until next Monday, so I can see myself still being in the office until 6pm. In the office every day the next week except New Years Day, and expect there to be panics on Monday from people who didn't realise we wouldn't be open all day on Christmas Day (NON emergency service).

restingbitchface30 · 22/12/2025 18:50

I work in a preschool nursery so the same really. Still a lot of kids to look after so it’s no different.

Hdpr · 22/12/2025 18:54

Media. Still busy

JimnJoyce · 22/12/2025 18:56

I have loads to do but don’t work Mondays, working tomorrow and Wednesday too

latetothefisting · 22/12/2025 18:58

normal amount. It's not like I'm morally adverse to taking it easy or anything, but we have individual caseloads, so if I don't do it now I'll just have to make it up in January - and the whole reason I'm still in work and haven't taken leave is because I'm busy in the next few months so am saving the leave for then, so would only be adding stress for my future self if I left all my work pile up as well!

TidyDancer · 22/12/2025 18:58

I work in healthcare. Ridiculously busy, more so than normal. Finishing early on Christmas Eve though.

Forever1973 · 22/12/2025 18:59

Very quiet. I've been catching up on things like training, but the days are dragging. I prefer to be busy.

IsThisLifeNow · 22/12/2025 19:11

Really busy, work in a hospital and its just full of flu and norovirus patients and the various complications of these things. I've got annual leave booked on Christmas eve though so looking forward to that, not my turn for christmas day either so thats nice
