How much work are you actually doing? (Appreciate if you work in retail you can't exactly slack off). But I have practically nothing to do. Just keeping an eye on my laptop at this stage...

Sooo many spreadsheets!

reluctantbrit · 22/12/2025 13:14

Very hectic today, 23rd and then 29th and 30th. All time critical.

We are officially closed 24th and 31st but I will be working up to lunchtime and get a day off in lieu.

No difference to the last 30+ years I work in finance,

MiddleAgedDread · 22/12/2025 13:15

non-retail and still busy. Had a client meeting and internal call this morning and looking forward to a quiet afternoon to get my teeth into something.

SassyGreyEagle · 22/12/2025 13:15

It's my last day today, before the Christmas break, and I am working from home. Just really checking and replying to emails. Much quieter than usual and getting a few out of office replies where people have already finished and not back until 5 January.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 22/12/2025 13:16

I manage a team of antisocial behaviour officers, usually it goes less busy (I'm not saying the Q word haha) before Xmas and then mental Jan and Feb. But this year has been weirdly busy with really quite serious incidents..

I'm guessing people are a lot more stressed, drinking more, and getting into mischief more.

That said, my diary today has been chocca full of meetings but tomorrow and wednesday not so much.

Hoping to chip out of work around 2-3pm on Xmas eve and then not back till mid January as I have holiday booked..

Gizlotsmum · 22/12/2025 13:22

I’m doing all the admin type stuff I haven’t done so sorting old emails, tidying files, making sure I know what is happening and when on the new year

Poodlelove · 22/12/2025 13:23

Some people are literally doing nothing in my work place when they should be , but they do this every day , not just at Christmas.
Next year I am taking the week before Christmas off as they are taking the p*

OnARainyDay2012 · 22/12/2025 13:24

More than I want to! On annual leave officially since Tuesday but urgent things keep popping up. Annoying! But preferable to a mad rush in Jan... maybe

tigger1001 · 22/12/2025 13:27

Busiest time of year for me in the office so manically busy. Just on my lunch break currently

DemonsandMosquitoes · 22/12/2025 13:27

Practice nurse. It’s my day off today but I’m back in tomorrow. Clinics are full to bursting as usual. Consoling myself with the thought that I retire in 12 months time. Am completely done.

BashfulClam · 22/12/2025 13:34

People keep sending me e-mails like I care…rude!

HiCandles · 22/12/2025 13:40

Busier than usual. I am a GP. Part time, don't work on Mondays.
Last week and I know tomorrow/Weds when I go in we are absolutely full of people remembering they need prescriptions before Christmas, or wanting themselves/child checked over for trivial colds because they don't want to get worse. Unfortunately it doesn't matter how often you see a doctor for a cold, there is still nothing other than home remedies that we can do about it. My decision making about whether a particular illness is likely to be viral or bacterial does not take into account Christmas. Haha imagine. Score 1 for fever, score 1 for pus on tonsils, score 1 for Christmas, score -1 for Christmas with MIL.

InLoveWithAI · 22/12/2025 13:42

I put the OOO in anticipation for weds.

DallasMinor · 22/12/2025 13:50

In the office doing "busy" jobs. Eaten numerous festive treats.

Blueskiesnotgrey · 22/12/2025 13:51

I'm still working technically in IT job, as I had no more annual leave, but there's literally nothing happening. Even my manager, who also has no leave booked, said see you in January at team meeting last week. The way the days have fallen this year, I defy you to find a single office-based job person who is doing much if anything at all. I personally was up to 5am doing all the kids wrapping so I can go out in Xmas Eve so not capable of much anyway. Am watching emails, Teams etc but zero activity.

Sympathies to those working in retail, hospitals etc.

TerrorAustralis · 22/12/2025 14:01

I finish tomorrow. I’ve got a lot to do, but will should get it done. Everyone else is already on leave, so there are no emails, Teams messages or interruptions. It’s great!

loveawineloveacrisp · 22/12/2025 14:08

Don't feel so guilty for skiving now. I have my Kindle propped up against my laptop screen and am finishing my book.

I’m still busy

Stowickthevast · 22/12/2025 14:17

Quite busy. Lots of things at work renew at the start of January, so it's a hectic time trying to get all the checks done before everyone goes off.

I'm hoping I'll have some time for present wrapping tomorrow though!

TheRealMagic · 22/12/2025 14:18

spanieleyes · 22/12/2025 13:08

I’m in a bit of a funny position. I work in a school and so we have finished for Xmas. But I’m SLT so don’t get school holidays, so I’m still officially working. But I retire on 31st December so have finished as much off as is humanly possible! Ive had 2 emails to deal with today, and that’s it!

Congratulations on your retirement! May it be a long, healthy and happy one - I bet you've earned it!

fishfingerbutty · 22/12/2025 14:22

Business as usual for me (HCP).

NHS.
Busier than ever.

NHS

Discharge report hell and then everyone is mashing through mandatory e-learning that they never get the time to do normally.

Community - no one wants planned visits this time of year so it's all the "click through about whether you'd make toast if the building was on fire" and "do you put a flamethrower in the black waste bin" shite.
