How much work are you actually doing? (Appreciate if you work in retail you can't exactly slack off). But I have practically nothing to do. Just keeping an eye on my laptop at this stage...

I'm working tomorrow, christmas eve and 29th and have got loads to do, but little motivation to do it! None of it is urgent but I need to try and get some of it done because January is going to be manic!

Paganpentacle · 22/12/2025 11:46

NHS.
Busier than ever.

katmarie · 22/12/2025 11:52

Software consultant here. Most of my clients are winding down, and I have bugger all to do really. It's going to be manic from the 2nd of jan though so trying to make sure I have all the crappy little jobs cleared off now. I have no annual leave left or I would have taken this week off.

Yuja · 22/12/2025 11:52

I’ve got about 1.5 hours work to do today! January will be mental but this run up to Xmas is very quiet

Noodge · 22/12/2025 11:59

Pretty normal here. Not busy not dead. I work assessing people and overseeing other's assessments, for those wanting MH help (non-NHS).

Mincepietastic · 22/12/2025 12:00

Sadly we're really busy - none of the team were allowed more than a day off each over Christmas for that reason. Just eating but will be back at it asap.

Echobelly · 22/12/2025 12:02

I thought I'd have a nice, quiet run-in to do some reading and research, but I've been asked to keep a project moving while someone else is off this week (I'm off next week). Fortunately on Friday they moved me from a complex bit that really isn't my area to a shorter and more straightforward set of tasks. I'll probably complete one today and the other tomorrow but I'll review and tidy up before I turn on the out of office on Wednesday, so a reasonable amount to do.

strongermummy · 22/12/2025 12:05

Lucky you.
i started a new contract mid Nov
In finance
they were already behind when i joined
then some members of the team got sick. And wont be back before year end.

I have not had much of an induction. No one has shown me the ropes. So I have no idea what is needed and when. Nor how to do things in the style this place expects.

in any case I am not a miracle worker and my boss is an arse hole. No wonder those on sick leave are not hurrying back.

im on a day rate so i just grit my teeth. Stick a smile on and crack on.

Comedycook · 22/12/2025 12:08

Work in a medical type setting and working every day including Christmas eve, only days off are Christmas day and boxing day...it will be just as busy as any other day.

Honeypizza · 22/12/2025 12:09

I'm very busy! I'm trying to get my own work done while also covering those who are off. I'm working from home today and juggling work with DH who is unwell and struggling to get out of bed, and DS who is very bored. Just realised I hadn't eaten anything yet today so I'm taking a breather while I scoff some toast. Feeling quite stressed at the thought of catching whatever bug DH has and I could really do with work being a bit quieter!

slug · 22/12/2025 12:14

I work in a university. We have some assessments due today so I'm monitoring emails for the inevitable few who panic/fail to read the instructions. Due time is 1pm so I'm not expecting to work much beyond that.

Springersrock · 22/12/2025 12:18

Bugger all.

This time of year is a bit difficult to gauge. Some years it’s been manic for the last week, others it’s dead quiet but there’s no rhyme or reason to it.

It was dead quiet last week too so I’ve already done all those scanning/accounts/payroll/H&S/filing/stuff I usually don’t have time for/bitty jobs that I usually do this week.

Emails are dead, the phone has rang once and that was a wrong number, I’ve cleaned the kitchen, hoovered the office and now alternating between here and TikTok.

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 22/12/2025 12:43

Got some small things to do but not much. Will keep an eye on emails but that's about it

FiveGoMadInDorset · 22/12/2025 12:46

Lots, coding agency invoices for paying, completing requests for bank agreements which still come in, chasing bank workers to complete expired mandatory training, my weeks do not change sadly (NHS)

golemmings · 22/12/2025 12:51

NHS. Largely school based. Writing reports, writing plans for next term and prepping resources. Very few people want home visits.

Sent a dozen texts to people I could do with catching up with but nobody is replying.

yonem · 22/12/2025 12:53

I have a big piece of analysis to do and I am being so much more productive without having any meetings to get in the way! I’m off after today and hoping to have got a good chunk done before I log off.

TheChosenTwo · 22/12/2025 12:55

I was expecting to be quiet and have a chance today (my last day) to tie up loose ends and leave with a clear inbox.
Safe to say fate has intervened with my plans and it’s all gone tits up. Just making myself some lunch because I’m fed up 😂 roll on 4pm!

Girasoli · 22/12/2025 12:58

Am working until lunchtime christmas eve...I'm getting a fair bit done (not right now I am having lunch).

The majority of my work is sitting quietly at a laptop reading regulations and legislation so it's nice I don't have lots of emails from other departments distracting me. Probably jinxed it now!

Sugarfish · 22/12/2025 12:59

Team manager in an admin office. Work is dead, 95% of the 3rd party companies we work with are on Christmas shut down but our employer insists we stay open. I’ve been updating some logs for next year and trying to make up work for the team. I have a couple of them making up a Christmas quiz for a team meeting on Christmas Eve. No idea how I’m going to fill tomorrow for them when what little work we have left today has been done.

Iamblossom · 22/12/2025 13:02

I have 4 high pressure customer meetings today - they started at 9.30, and will finish about 3pm. One of them was a workshop I hosted for 40 people, thankfully that is done now. It's infuriating, I want to stop work and skive and just check email like everyone else in my line of work.

Springflowersyay · 22/12/2025 13:03

I’m a dog walker.
Doing a dogsit at the moment. One dog was cancelled this morning as they forgot I was coming. Quiet day today. No extras booked in.
Will be done by 2pm tomorrow, which is normal for a Tuesday…….

Isobel201 · 22/12/2025 13:04

the work I was doing has had to be paused, so no I've not got anything to do. Just keep the laptop on between 10-3 working from home and I'm off A/L Wednesday.

RaininSummer · 22/12/2025 13:07

Same as normal apart from some people who have decided not to show for their pre-booked appointments. Admin in gaps. Office is quiet however as about a third are on leave.

spanieleyes · 22/12/2025 13:08

I’m in a bit of a funny position. I work in a school and so we have finished for Xmas. But I’m SLT so don’t get school holidays, so I’m still officially working. But I retire on 31st December so have finished as much off as is humanly possible! Ive had 2 emails to deal with today, and that’s it!

SardinesOnGingerbread · 22/12/2025 13:11

I get a lot done over this period, except for id there is an unexpected crisis in which case I'm very busy indeed covering other staff
