Crumpet toppings

So I’ve usually played it pretty safe with crumpets and just added lots of butter. Although I did go through a wee phase of having them with bacon and eggs and squishing the runny/jammy yolks down into the crumpets alongside the butter.

But I just tried some with not only butter but a wee touch of Bonne maman salted butter caramel spread and they were amazing.

So it’s made me think what other crumpet combos am I missing out on? Answers on a postcard please

Pate. It goes into the holes beautifully. I had pate on reindeer crumpets yesterday for my breakfast.

Butter and plum jam. Peanut butter and sliced banana. Alternatively, cut into cubes, sauté these in butter and then dredge with a mix of caster sugar and cinnamon.

I'd never had butter and marmite together until yesterday, thought it would be gross to mix them, but somehow couldn't fancy plain marmite the way I usually have them. So I tried butter too and it was a revelation! Never again will my crumpets be plain marmite!!

Salted butter and more salt.
