Crumpet toppings

So I’ve usually played it pretty safe with crumpets and just added lots of butter. Although I did go through a wee phase of having them with bacon and eggs and squishing the runny/jammy yolks down into the crumpets alongside the butter.

But I just tried some with not only butter but a wee touch of Bonne maman salted butter caramel spread and they were amazing.

So it’s made me think what other crumpet combos am I missing out on? Answers on a postcard please

Butter and jam
Butter and golden syrup
Butter and lemon curd!

Butter and marmite!
I need to try putting cheese on them and putting them in the air fryer

I had beef short rib on crumpets at a pub near my dad's house. It was one of the best things I have ever had. The beef was perfectly falling apart and I don't know what it was marinated in but that was fantastic.

Taramasalata.

Lashings of butter that melts in to the crispy toasted crumpets (crisp but not burnt) and lots of sea salt. Heaven!

I love crumpets (Warburtons) I’ve recently discovered ‘laughing cow triangle’ ❤️ on the crumpet

Butter & marmite

Cheese and crunchy peanut butter ideally grilled to melt the cheese if you can be bothered.

Well jam. Bovril. Good base for eggs Benedict.

Tapenade with sundried tomatoes and extra mature cheddar

Marmite and peanut butter. Perfection.

Butter. Period.

Last year I had lobster thermidor topped crumpets as a Christmas starter from sainsburys. They were a bit fancy!

Mmm, I saw a sort of bread and butter pudding made with crumpets the other day. But with sticky toffee sauce on the bottom and medjool dates stuffed through.

Butter, Marmite and a couple of thin slices of very strong cheddar.

Or do them under the grill with grated (strong) cheddar and Worcestershire sauce.

My work lunch for the last few weeks has been double toasted crumpets so they’re good and crunchy, spread with a fairly thick layer of pate. Very very moreish!

Melted Brie and cranberry sauce. It’s divine!

Ooh, yes, I’ll bet, @Whatadilema - must also be moreish, too, I bet I’d have no trouble eating at least half a packet of crumpets like that!

Another vote for Bovril and butter.

Big thick strip of cheddar or (controversial!) a slice of that plasticky cheese you put on burgers.

Just butter or Lancashire cheese under the grill 🙂

Jam and strong/mature cheddar cheese. Ideally thinly sliced so it goes a bit sweaty. And the crumpets must be twice toasted so they are crispy.

This. And if you grill the cheese it is acceptable to have a small piece of tomato on top.
