Crumpet toppings

So I’ve usually played it pretty safe with crumpets and just added lots of butter. Although I did go through a wee phase of having them with bacon and eggs and squishing the runny/jammy yolks down into the crumpets alongside the butter.

But I just tried some with not only butter but a wee touch of Bonne maman salted butter caramel spread and they were amazing.

So it’s made me think what other crumpet combos am I missing out on? Answers on a postcard please

You could add as per a jacket potato, so cheese and beans, tun and mayo, or give it a topping like pizza. I personally like cheese and pickle, or peanut butter and jam

cream cheese and strawberries

peanut butter with banana slices

pistachio spread

strong cheddar and tomatoess

Spread some red pesto then top with cheese and grill - pizza crumpets!

I do this but with plain old tomato ketchup!

As a variation, cut your uncooked crumpets into little squares, toss in melted butter, sugar and sweet cinnamon, then in the air fryer for 15 mins (keep shaking them). Serve with a little pot of Bonne Maman chocolate and orange spread for dipping. Warning - this will NOT help with weight loss.

Butter and marmite

RaucousSwan · 18/12/2025 16:17

Chopped leftover roast chicken with lemon, mayo and tarragon. Or crab and chives

I make crumpet 'pizza' so tomato puree, cheese and a couple of olives/slice of green pepper/halved mushroom. Put under the grill until the cheese bubbles.

Butter, which may acceptably be combined with cheddar cheese or jam.

Otherwise, you're all heathens!

Look on a website called Farmhouse in Leeds and Harrogate they have crumpets with birria and poached eggs!!

gogomomo2 · 18/12/2025 16:38

Homemade jam as well as butter. Had a crab and watercress crumpet at local pub (when they were going through a small plates phase) which was ok but to be honest, prefer sweet crumpets

MrsSkylerWhite · 18/12/2025 16:38

Peanut butter and marmite, together.

BillieWiper · 18/12/2025 16:40

Jam and whipped cream. Like a scone. Delicious!

Toast it thoroughly though. Same with cheese. The crumpet needs to be cooked before you then melt the cheese on it. Mature Cheddar I love.

Marmite and butter is a good one too.

I like making scrambled eggs with chopped up spring onion and plenty of cheese, liberally butter the crumpets, egg on top and then a sprinkle of hot sauce
