Crumpet toppings

So I’ve usually played it pretty safe with crumpets and just added lots of butter. Although I did go through a wee phase of having them with bacon and eggs and squishing the runny/jammy yolks down into the crumpets alongside the butter.

But I just tried some with not only butter but a wee touch of Bonne maman salted butter caramel spread and they were amazing.

So it’s made me think what other crumpet combos am I missing out on? Answers on a postcard please

Cured meat (I tend to go for serrano) and maple syrup

Hoolahoophop · 18/12/2025 12:35

The ripest, softest, creamiest cheese of your choice, Brie, Camembert etc. Over butter so it oozes.

Peanut butter with banana and a drizzle of honey or maple syrup, add bacon medallions too if I’m feeling really wild 🤪

I make crumpet eggy bread. Soak two crumpets in egg beaten with lots of black pepper and chilli flakes. Fry.
Sometimes I have this with fried tomatoes, occasionally bacon.

Now this sounds like a game changer

I quite like maple syrup, as if it were a pancake BUT I do think just Lurpak is the best.

ZenZazie · 18/12/2025 13:45

@Calliopespa I am a big fan of Lurpak

Honey. End of.

Or golden syrup. Just a tiny bit 😋

SuperSharpShooter · 18/12/2025 14:16

Houmous and cucumber, cracked black pepper.

Redhairandhottubs · 18/12/2025 14:19

When I was a kid we used to have them with butter and golden syrup. Super sweet but so good!

Butter, possibly with marmite. And occasionally cheese. Anything else is against the law.

This. I even balk at cheese a little bit.

Periperi2025 · 18/12/2025 14:33

Marmite and dairylea

Ineffable23 · 18/12/2025 14:35

Another for butter, marmite and cheddar cheese.

Blue cheese also great.

Camembert also good.

Occasionally I've used leftover clotted cream and jam if I have run out of scones before running out of clotted cream.

Topseyt123 · 18/12/2025 14:44

I used to make them into mini pizzas for my DDs when they were small.

Toast them a little first, then spread them with tomato puree and add any toppings you prefer. Like thinly sliced onion, peppers, mushrooms, sweetcorn, tuna, grated cheese.

Then grill them again until brown on top.

CoastalCalm · 18/12/2025 14:48
