Crumpet toppings

So I’ve usually played it pretty safe with crumpets and just added lots of butter. Although I did go through a wee phase of having them with bacon and eggs and squishing the runny/jammy yolks down into the crumpets alongside the butter.

But I just tried some with not only butter but a wee touch of Bonne maman salted butter caramel spread and they were amazing.

So it’s made me think what other crumpet combos am I missing out on? Answers on a postcard please

Thick wedge of cheddar. Marmite.
Sometimes both

I liked the sound of this thread and have name changed in it's honour! 🤣
For savoury crumpets I do avocado and runny egg or melted cheese.
For sweet I do jam or condensed milk.
Have also slathered on crunchy peanut butter but I know it's debatable whether that's sweet or savoury.

Butter and crunchy peanut butter or butter, marmite and grated stong cheddar

crumpet · 18/12/2025 11:27

Butter, possibly with marmite. And occasionally cheese. Anything else is against the law.

Melsy88 · 18/12/2025 11:27

Beans and cheese!

I like them double toasted till crunchy. Then butter. That is all. Preferably President. 😋

LollyWillow · 18/12/2025 11:35

I make crumpet eggy bread. Soak two crumpets in egg beaten with lots of black pepper and chilli flakes. Fry.
Sometimes I have this with fried tomatoes, occasionally bacon.

ZenZazie · 18/12/2025 11:35

Oh, I’d never thought of condensed milk as a spread, but now that opens up a whole world of uses ❤️

This time of year it’s always Brie and cranberry.

Butter first, then a smear of marmite, topped with cheese and then put under the grill for a couple of minutes. Gorgeous!
