I can’t stand Rowan Atkinson

Used to love Mr Bean as a kid, I found it on Netflix recently to show the kids and I honestly couldn’t understand how I used to enjoy it at all. He was absolutely insufferable and I couldn’t bear to watch him. I can’t stand his newer Netflix stuff either, Man Vs Bee/Baby. He’s so incompetent I could just scream!

Anyone else?

Roman Atkinson ditched his wife for a woman 30 years his junior. I use to enjoy his proper comedy (Not Mr Bean stuff), but now I just think “what a fucking cliche”.

26 years 😆 she was in my year at college and I can’t believe I am only 26 years off 70.

I liked blackadder as a kid and still do I think but I don't like Mr Bean at all and I can't think of much else he's done. I remember it was always touted how much he adored his first wife and then he left her suddenly for a much, much younger woman, James Acaster's girlfriend at the time in fact. So I have him pegged as a love rat.

I never know why people get this worked up about some stranger's relationship. We know nothing whatsoever about what was going on between them but people have clearly made up their own scenario in order to cast the man as the villain.

Mr Bean is really a sort of clown, and like most clowns he is a sort of adult child, which also makes him very annoying at times. He demonstrates some of the worst traits you see in people, meanness, pettiness, cowardliness, greed, etc. But they are naive in a way we aren't used to seeing in an adult. I think that's part of what makes it uncomfortable. But there's also a kind of truth there because most of us as adults still have all that bubbling under the surface.

I think the humour is often more sophisticated than people give it credit for. But I find I can only watch an eposide or two at a time, or he is too annoying.

I live a lot of RA's other stuff too, and I think he seems quite nice and sensible.

I find it utterly bizarre that you would start a thread about an actor then claim to have not seen one of two roles that he is most known for. Most people that know Atkinson will immediately associate him with Blackadder. His character is completely different from Mr. Bean. You should watch a range of hia work before starting a thread about how much you dislike him

He was cheating on his wife, mother of his two children at the time and she on her long term live in partner. Obviously neither of them had much in the way of integrity. Also nothing in my comment suggests I'm "worked up" about any of it. I just remember reading about it at the time. People do shitty things that reveal they have a shitty character they will get judged even in passing by total strangers.

Unless any of the people concerned have confided in you, you don't know that he was cheating. For all you know, the marriage was already dead. Sadly, it does happen.

No it's well known he had an affair. James Acaster (the other wronged party) has spoken about it publicly. Whether the marriage was in trouble or not is irrelevant. They both cheated and that's all there is to say about it. People with integrity and character don't behave like that. Personally I think both wronged parties are better off without the cheaters but but Atkinson has very much earned the title of love rat.

Blackadder the Third and Blackadder goes forth are some of the best tv there is. Mr Bean is a load of rubbish to me - but very clever in that it can be shown all over the world without needing subtitles or dubbing.

Mr Bean is an infuriating twat, so he played him perfectly.

Rowan Atkinson is brilliant at what he does.
