I can’t stand Rowan Atkinson

Used to love Mr Bean as a kid, I found it on Netflix recently to show the kids and I honestly couldn’t understand how I used to enjoy it at all. He was absolutely insufferable and I couldn’t bear to watch him. I can’t stand his newer Netflix stuff either, Man Vs Bee/Baby. He’s so incompetent I could just scream!

Anyone else?

Mr Bean is just a character!! You liked it when you were young …. I have never like Mr Bean but Rowan Atkinson is great and is very funny in lots of other things.

ethelredonagoodday · 16/12/2025 20:57

Another who couldn’t stand Mr Bean, but loved Blackadder.

lljkk · 16/12/2025 20:59

Hot Shots : Part Deux... :) And the Olympics skit.

I’ve worked with a lot of celebrities in my old job, and Rowan was one of the nicest. He was so lovely - I was just a lowly junior assistant at the time but he was as polite and respectful to us as he was to the director. He also has worked very hard to keep his private life exactly that, and to keep his children out of the media.

Barms155 · 16/12/2025 21:01

Merry Christmas Mr bean is brilliant. Th nativity bit....the christmas present for Teddy....and you realise that the show friends stole their thanksgiving turkey on the head idea from Mr bean.

WimpoleHat · 16/12/2025 21:03

I dealt with him a few times in my old job and he's lovely, polite and respectful, unlike a lot of other celebrities I had the misfortune to speak with.

Interesting to hear that from @JudgeBread . I came on to say that I knew a “stage mum” whose son was in a West End musical with Rowan Atkinson. She said he was absolutely lovely - unlike some of the lesser stars, he’d happily sit and eat dinner with the rest of the cast and was always very unshowy and polite.

On an unrelated note, I have always thought Blackadder was a work of complete genius……!

Porkpiesarespicy · 16/12/2025 21:06

My mum hated Mr Bean, when she was alive I used to call her and say put the telly on this channel and wait for the fuck sake pork pie you know I can’t stand him, you bitch and laugh at me down the phone 😂. It worked every time she’d never twig on unless she was being kind and just going along with it. Awww bless her.

my own I can’t stand is Warwick Davis and I don’t really know why.

notnorman · 16/12/2025 21:07

Blackadder was amazing. Mr Bean just awful.

upstairsdownstairscardboardbox · 16/12/2025 21:07

I can't fucking stand it and to think they binned of Blackadder and made this shite. Disgraceful!

greentest · 16/12/2025 21:08

I liked blackadder as a kid and still do I think but I don't like Mr Bean at all and I can't think of much else he's done. I remember it was always touted how much he adored his first wife and then he left her suddenly for a much, much younger woman, James Acaster's girlfriend at the time in fact. So I have him pegged as a love rat.

DarkEyedSailor · 16/12/2025 21:09

I've never seen Mr Bean.
I like Blackadder and The Thin Blue Line and I thought he was good in Keeping Mum.
His was the only bit of Love Actually that made me smile.

danglethedingle · 16/12/2025 21:09

I like Rowan Akinson, he comes across as intelligent, a bit shy, and quite humble.

I love Blackadder, can't stand Mr Bean, and loved Not the 9 O'clock news back in the day. His work is a matter of taste, as is all comedy, no need to have a go at the man himself.

I think he would make a very fine straight actor, and wish he would go more in that direction tbh.

YellowCherry · 16/12/2025 19:10

He was amazing in Blackadder but I never liked Mr Bean.

I remember feeling faintly embarassed saying to one of my cousins that I was surprised at just how physically attractive I found the Elizabethan version of Blackadder. Her response was I need to get out more.

But having recently rewatched bits of Blackadder, I will stand by that. The Elizabethan one only, though.

twinsufficient · 16/12/2025 21:11

I met him IRL when I worked in a bookshop 20 years ago. He was a grumpy, miserable bugger then so can only imagine he's worse now

ChocolateCinderToffee · 16/12/2025 21:11

Wonder what he thinks of you . . .

... They've tied my shoelaces together...

CurlewKate · 16/12/2025 21:11

Mr Bean is utterly awful. However, Atkinson is very funny in other things.

Pedallleur · 16/12/2025 21:12

Mr. Bean is huge hit in eg Japan where his character who doesn't speak just does is easily understandable. The Bean films (1997/2007) each took over $200 million at the cinema and we're a big success in that the comedy actions easily translate to an international audience

AmyDuPlantier · 16/12/2025 21:13

I don’t like his work, but he’s a massive car enthusiast and has an amazing collection. For that I love him 🖤

OrlandointheWilderness · 16/12/2025 21:13

God adore him. He is absolutely brilliant and an enduring crush of mine in blackadder!

SleepingisanArt · 16/12/2025 21:15

I met him a few times at fundraising events and in my place of work at the time. I found him rude and dismissive. At the fundraiser he was incredibly rude to the staff (except the big boss) and he was a finger clicker to the waiting staff. I like some of his work (I am also old enough to have seen Not the Nine O'clock News) but I'm afraid I don't like him as a person.

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 16/12/2025 21:16

I found that Man v Baby really stressful to watch. One disaster after another, I stuck with it but was so peed off at the end! (I know I should've turned it off but was hoping it would get better-more fool me).

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 16/12/2025 21:19

I don’t like Mr Bean but Rowan was great in Not the Nine O’clock News. I recently watched Four weddings and a funeral again and he was fabulous in that too.

Made a few quid out of his Maclaren F1 iirc too..

redboxer321 · 16/12/2025 21:20

Surprised that no one has mentioned he's in a relationship with a woman 26 years his junior. Think he pretty much left his wife for her. James Acaster, her ex, got left for... Mr Bean!
Love him for Blackadder though.
