2026 will be the year I sort my life out. Anyone else?

I’m 26. I’m in debt, health wise I’m not doing too great and mentally I could probably be a little better too. So 2026 will be the year I sort it all.

I’m re-evaluating my budget and I’m going to cut all my spending down. I’ll be debt free by the end of the year. I’m going to clear out everything I own and sell it on vinted or at car boot sales. I’m going to change my view on money.

I’ve got a GP appointment in a couple of weeks to sort out my health, I’m hoping they take me seriously and help me start sorting that.

I want to pick up a hobby or too that gets me out of the house and maybe even go on a date or two. I’m going to do some travelling and see things I’ve always wanted to see.

By the end of 2026 I want to be in a position where I can start to save for a house.

Anyone else going to sort their lives out next year?

@blizymitzy your list sounds a bit like mine! I went through a jigsaw stage but then was wfh on what had been my jigsaw table.

Also an empty nest, and have made plans for a monthly jaunt somewhere with dh up till April so far.
Getting fitter: I'd like to swim once a week and do a youtube walking fitness class twice weekly on top of usual quite good activity levels. Which are slightly thwarted by rickety knees.
Big plans to stop scrolling and read books.
Project 333 for my clothing.
I just read a comfort vs style thread on S&B and felt quite put to shame 😳 I'm not sure I know how to be stylish. I just try not to scare the horses people really.

I love this week between Christmas and New Year as a time for reflection, ahead of a new start.

mum2jakie · 29/12/2025 21:03

Amazing thread!! I love the idea of 26 excellent ways to improve (20)26. The New Year Solutions concept is great too.

I will start small otherwise I just get overwhelmed. I'm going to give yoga a go this year. There is a weekly lunchtime session at my work so I am going to put my name down when it restarts in the new year.

I saved this earlier to come back to later on. If you use ChatGPT they have a yearly review atm and then an option to talk through your 2026 goals which I found helpful. I have high aspirations for this year but 2 toddlers has the potential to hold me back! I’m going to really try focus on myself a bit more this year and find my identity again rather than just mummy 24/7

Morning all :) I have a wellness journal arriving today. Am determined to get on top of my health in 2026!

How is everyone on the last day of 2025. I should probably change my username 🤣

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 31/12/2025 08:37

Happy new years eve to you all. Ive woken up thinkibg if the year ahead and my "new years solutions"! One of which is better planning/time management. I will add thhings like gym/swim/even housesirk into my diary. I think that will make a big difference

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 31/12/2025 08:38

To add, i will do this a couple of weeks at a time, not just a recuring calender entry, to take account of actual life!

Weallknowhesafloppypurplehairedposeur · 31/12/2025 10:52

2026 is going to be a busy year. A fair bit of travel involved.

BonnieWeeLass99 · 31/12/2025 10:57

2025 was an ok year for me. My marriage is in a good place my dc thriving so in that respect- great!
But I found work really challenging, I made a move to a new industry mid 2024 and feel like ive still not found my groove. I want to find my way in work and focus on this in 2026

Also some debt- not loads about 2k that needs to go so I will be focusing on getting rid of that by April and ill then start saving for a big holiday

Mentally and emotionally- ive already removed the facebook and instagram apps, I want to focus more on reading

Midlifeshenanigans · 31/12/2025 16:33

Can I join please?

I’m late 50s and want to improve my fitness by doing 3 workouts every week as I need to get fitter, lose weight and feel better about myself .

I also want to be off my phone more and do something fun every week.

i want to do more Lego and cross-stitch to stop the mindless scrolling.

I want to draw up a budget so I can see when I can afford to retire.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 01/01/2026 12:52

Morning and Happy New Year to you all. Just realised its no longer morning....oh well.

Im going into town tomorrow to buy a diary. Planning my time seems key to most of my new years solutions!

I am with you @Midlifeshenanigans on putting the phone down. It is SUCH a time thief.

mum2jakie · 01/01/2026 21:58

Today's achievements:
Phone off before 10pm - need to reduce that
Decent amount of time in fresh air
Low carb tea
Prepped lunch for work tomorrow so won't be tempted to eat junk

Lookingforwardto2025 · 02/01/2026 12:07

Happy New Year! Just back from a 5k walk in the stunning snow! Feeling very happy and virtuous 🤣

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 03/01/2026 17:39

@Lookingforwardto2025 thats beautiful! No snow here, just bloody freezing.

I got out for a good long walk yesterday too, will get back to running once my chest is feeling better.

I'm in! Can anyone recommend a good budgeting spreadsheet or app? I'm not great with Excel so a pre-made one would be ideal.

I'm unfortunately about to find myself with some debts to repay so really need to get a grip on my finances.

Also need to get back in the fitness habit to improve my overall health and hopefully lose some weight.

Thelnebriati · 03/01/2026 17:50

I did my hair a bit differently today and it looks bloody fabulous. All windswept, like I've just stepped out of a salon. It won't last but I'm going to make the most of it and swish around the house.

I would also love to know if there is a budgeting app that ideally doesn’t cost! Would be ideal for me to sort out finances 😊

Hi all. I am 50 in December and I am determined to lose 4 stone before my birthday. It is just one a pound a week and I know I can do it.

I also need to reduce my credit card debt, keep up with my swimming for my mental health too,

WinterFrogs · 24/01/2026 17:11

How is everyone doing? @sleepyjessie are you still about?

I've had a bit of a reset today as the week got stressful and I found myself buffeted about a bit.

I've joined a 50 books in a year thread, and I've been reading where I'd normally be scrolling. I'm four books in so I'm on track.

Started a low impact walking exercise video thing. It added a thousand energetic steps to my day today.

I started learning to juggle a while back, have left it alone for a while but came back to it today still reliably able to juggle three balls for a about six circuits. YouTube has helped with this too. Supposed to be an excellent new thing to learn to support cognitive health. It's also fun, and quite energetic, especially at the beginning when you drop the balls all the time!

Not been swimming yet as have procrastinated about buying a costume.

I've commited to dates with friends as they need a bit of work around everyone's commitments. The dates, not the friends. The friends are perfect just as they are! Time flies by so quickly and I find I've only seen family members and work colleagues.

The biggie is getting rid of sugar from my diet. DH does not help with this, but I'm hoping that if I crack it, he might follow suit.

Now I have a cuppa and I am going to sit and do absolutely nothing for a bit with my phone off!

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 24/01/2026 20:19

I've started tennis lessons again, getting out and talking to people is doing me the world of good. The group are much less cliquey than the one I joined last year and the coaches seem to spend time watching you so they can give you individual tips and advice (like how I need to face more forwards when I serve).

Been for a walk most days, just counting down the days until it's still light at 6pm.

Work has been crap but that's in hand too (I don't want to jinx it so won't say anymore).

MakingDoNicely · 24/01/2026 20:35

I’d like to join too please. I’ve had a crappy few years up until last year which wasn’t too bad but felt like I was just waiting for the disasters to start happening! So this year I’m taking back a bit of control. I’m trying to introduce one new habit a week (although now I’m wondering if every two weeks like others are doing is more sensible!). So far I have…

  1. started drinking more water - not quite consistently at 2 litres but it’s becoming habit to top up my water bottle now.
  2. swapped doom scrolling and watching crappy tv for reading which is much better do my mental health
  3. get shit done without over thinking it. If it goes wrong, never mind, at least I tried! I’ve done a couple of DIY jobs so far is been putting off because I over think it and ordered a load of seeds and got my indoor set up sorted to start sewing the early things when they arrive.

Next week I will aim for 2-3 fruits and veg with every meal.

Ideally be the end of the year I will feel more organised and on top of things, fitter and healthier, calmer and have better mental health, will have all debt paid off and Christmas paid for with savings, will have a productive veg plot in the garden and will be regularly enjoying my hobbies and spending regular quality time with my husband. Well that’s the dream anyway!

cosimnotwhereitsat · 27/01/2026 21:05

How are we doing?

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 28/01/2026 10:36

I seem to be fighting against the tide at the moment. I have had a cough for weeks and still feeling quite breathless. I did go to the gym monday, planned to go today afterwork but dc ill. I've lost 4lbs!

I am midway through book 2 if the year which i am happy with.

The house is looking better.

Divorce still ongoing...
