2026 will be the year I sort my life out. Anyone else?

I’m 26. I’m in debt, health wise I’m not doing too great and mentally I could probably be a little better too. So 2026 will be the year I sort it all.

I’m re-evaluating my budget and I’m going to cut all my spending down. I’ll be debt free by the end of the year. I’m going to clear out everything I own and sell it on vinted or at car boot sales. I’m going to change my view on money.

I’ve got a GP appointment in a couple of weeks to sort out my health, I’m hoping they take me seriously and help me start sorting that.

I want to pick up a hobby or too that gets me out of the house and maybe even go on a date or two. I’m going to do some travelling and see things I’ve always wanted to see.

By the end of 2026 I want to be in a position where I can start to save for a house.

Anyone else going to sort their lives out next year?

I came onto this thread expecting to comment with something flippant such as “at 57, I’m way past sorting my life out” but your goals are all admirable and achievable. Please remember through 2026 that progress is not linear. There will be strides forward and there will be times where you feel like your back to square 1 but you won’t be. There’ll just be blips in the progress. Keep moving forward, consistent, tiny progress is still progress.

This year has been a shit show of bereavement, physical and mental health issues and weight gain. I’d love to think I can turn things around in 2026 but I’m not going to put pressure on myself. If I can at least start to work on my weight I’ll be happy.

Reachforthestars00 · 15/12/2025 12:36

This is an excellent thread. Lovely to see positivity on the boards. I'm going away for a think. I love the idea of 26 things to improve my 2026

Can I join you?

Things I’d like to sort out this year are my fitness and boredom levels. I’ll never be one for loving the gym, but I have to go and I’d like to find a hobby to get me off my phone and out of my head.

QuirkyMoose · 16/12/2025 01:48

I can't complain about my life but I won't lie, the last number of months have been extremely difficult and whether I want to or not, I have to make a giant change. So, I'm joining you gals. 2026. It's going to be a big year for me.

soccermum10 · 16/12/2025 07:25

Yes I'll join. I really need to finish renovating this house so we can move to a better area. Although my job is okay and I get on with everyone, I really need a fresh start. Not sure what job as of yet and I will only apply to a job I am 100% certain about 🙂

sleepyjessie · 18/12/2025 20:05

I’ve been making some headway on my goals for next year. I want to have a good split for my salary so that I can budget accordingly and travel

Last year, I pledged to floss every night and work out more and I'm so pleased I've kept it up.

I now work out at least 3 times a week and feel a million times better for it, plus I feel like it is a huge investment in my future quality of life.

This year, I want to eat better. Less junk, more whole foods. Less convenience, more proper cooking.

TheBoomingVoiceofExperience · 18/12/2025 22:30

my starter list -

treasure more every day stuff

decluttering day once a month

finish three house projects

improve my sleep length

Take my vitamins

add 3-4 more quick easy recipes I can make without thinking about it which are really healthy.

soup batch cook

meal plan

Start doing more family walks now my youngest is growing up.

What workouts do you do and how did you start? I know if I tried to go straight in to doing three a week I wouldn’t keep it up…

blizymitzy · 19/12/2025 09:19

Can I join you too please?

I’m 53 and I’ve started to improve my fitness by doing 3 different workouts every week and I’m loving it ( most of the time ) but I want to get fitter ,loose weight and feel better about myself .
I also want to be off my phone more and enjoy our empty nest with dh by doing something productive/ fun every week.
I want to learn backgammon and do more jigsaws .
I will add some more things but those are off the top of my head.

Can I join?

massively lost myself after having a baby and loosing my dad and a massive relocation!

have no idea what it’ll look like but would love some
company as I decide!

AvocadoJam · 19/12/2025 09:57

@ScarpetaI joined my local leisure centre and just tried the group classes that appealed to me. Right now, that's a Spin (cycling) class, weights class and yoga.

I tried to go to the gym myself but really didn't enjoy it as I was a bit clueless.

I'll also do a run now and then, particularly when it's not raining.

I found it really helped to get a fitness tracker, which motivated me to stick to the plan.

JG24 · 19/12/2025 11:02

I'm on track to pay debt off by the end of 2026. It will be the first time in 20+ years I haven't been in debt, my whole adult life
It feels weird just thinking about it

SparklyGlitterballs · 13/12/2025 13:00

I'll join you all. I've had a crap few years. First DH became ill and died last year from a recurrence of his cancer. This year I've had loads go wrong with the house (electrics/boiler etc) and I've had to navigate my way round organising repairs which have cost thousands and gone on for months. Recently I've had a knee replacement, so I'm not very mobile just now.

I'm hoping in the new year, once I've recovered, I'll be able to walk and exercise more so that I can get my weight down.

I also want to see the GP about my weak bladder issue, as that's something else that keeps me tied to the house.

I'm going to try and kick my senseless habit of buying things on Amazon - non-essential crap. I also want to continue with my programme of decluttering (DH was a bit of a hoarder). I've already tackled the wardrobes and garage but the loft is full to bursting and I desperately want to sort that.

I gave up work to be DH's carer. I'd like to find a part-time WFH job to bring in a little income.

So, overall, I want to slim down, get fitter, get out more and have a tidier house. Who knows, even a small holiday would be nice (haven't been away since 2019).

It feels good writing all that down. I hope I can commit to it.

Goodness that sounds really hard.Hoping 2026, brings you sime if the things you want.x

LadyLucksalot · 19/12/2025 11:29

I've completed my 27th bonus Excellent Thing! I topped up my voluntary NI contributions plugging the gaps. All sorted. Very satisfying feeling - this has been on my mind for months and months.

I've made the decision to do 2 gym classes a week, pushing myself out of my comfort zone of solitary swimming. I have Biro-ed these in for the month of January in my pretty diary, so now I can't not go as it's in Biro.

Tigercrane · 19/12/2025 11:35

Hello I also want to join your thread.I thought my year was hard, but some of you had it.much harder!
Lost my beloved dog, had some real difficulties with household appliances, nothing working.( Sorry very boring, and too annoying to go into details.)
Lost my job, also had someone being violent to me, but this was luckily deflected and short lived.Luckily no major health problems only a bad cold.
I do have another job now, so I am relived and hoping to improve my life in 2026!!
So I'd like to tag along and hear what you're doing and maybe inspire me to work on my hobby, health, family, peace of mind what ever!!!

Eesha · 20/12/2025 05:39

2025 should have been a great year for me as professionally ive thrived, ive gotten through some huge anxiety filled activities, renovated my home beautifully, made some brilliant new friends and also helped some friends get into work after years unemployed. However all that has consumed me was the end of my relationship through no fault of either of us. I could barely look in the mirror for months and felt I was just existing. It was like my light just went out.

So, 2026 for me will be focussing on me, family and friends and appreciating all of this. Im going to try and fake it till I make it :

Drink more water
Brush hair fully
Be kinder to myself generally and not let the sadness creep back

Hippywannabe · 20/12/2025 07:09

Joining in please!
Am 23 lbs down since 5th November but still have 7 stones to go. Every inch of cupboard space in my house is literally rammed with bags and cases of smaller clothes. I have bags and boxes of stuff on the bedroom floor because there is no room in the cupboards. First plan- no visits to the charity shops to buy more! My plan is very 2 months should result in being able to fit into a smaller size and I am going to get rid of the too big stuff rather than try to ebay or vinted it- my thoughts being that I am always pleased to find something nice in a charity shop so let someone else have that feeling.
2nd- finish the 2 online courses I started last year and pick up my Spanish on Duolingo again as we have 4 holidays booked for next year,
3rd -try to go back to reading or tv for an hour when I go to bed rather than doomscrolling.
4th-journalling. It really does help.
5th -20 minutes walk every morning on my new walking pad.

Lookingforwardto2025 · 20/12/2025 09:20

Some great steps being taken on here!

I am happy because this week I finally got around to deep cleaning and reorganising the kitchen cupboards! I also have improved the healthiness of my breakfasts and this morning went for a run!

Eating wise apart from breakfasts hasn't been so good but little steps!

Thelnebriati · 20/12/2025 12:32

I've defrosted the freezer and cleaned the fridge, I need to deep clean the kitchen for the Christmas cook fest.
I cleared out the last bag of donations for the charity shop last week, and I sold a load of books and DVD's to Music Magpie. I don't think there's anything left worth selling or donating.

Redpriestandmozart · 20/12/2025 21:05

Baby steps, but in preparation for the new year.

  1. I made three huge pots of soup to freeze for my 'diet' lunches in January.
  2. Cleaned out the freezer
  3. Created a budget spreadsheet for 2026
Hippywannabe · 20/12/2025 22:34

Had friends around for dinner tonight so blitzed the kitchen and bathroom until they were shining. However, too much talking led to burned sweet potatoes so will be spending tomorrow morning scrubbing my favourite saucepan. Plus, the oven needs a clean too.
Did sort out the freezer so there is some space and bought last minute wrapping paper for tomorrow's wrapping session- only to discover 4 rolls in the garage later.
Am feeling a bit like Xmas is under control a bit!
Oh, and despite doing the huge roast dinner, I have stuck to my eating plan today.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 21/12/2025 10:37

Following to come back to.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 21/12/2025 11:34

I do feel like 2025 has been full of good progress but there is so much more to come.

I have lost 3stone, and have 3 more left to lose.
I have started regular hair appointments, and will continue to keep these up (first time ever in my 48 years!)
Ive started running. Well. C25k. I will continue this.

A BIG one is to properly declutter my house and keep on top of it. I am very good at periodically decluttering and tidying, but i cannot for the life of me keep it up

I will (please god or whoever wants to help me) finalise my divorce, buy ex out, consolodate debt into remortgage, fresh start.

Start saving.
