2026 will be the year I sort my life out. Anyone else?

I’m 26. I’m in debt, health wise I’m not doing too great and mentally I could probably be a little better too. So 2026 will be the year I sort it all.

I’m re-evaluating my budget and I’m going to cut all my spending down. I’ll be debt free by the end of the year. I’m going to clear out everything I own and sell it on vinted or at car boot sales. I’m going to change my view on money.

I’ve got a GP appointment in a couple of weeks to sort out my health, I’m hoping they take me seriously and help me start sorting that.

I want to pick up a hobby or too that gets me out of the house and maybe even go on a date or two. I’m going to do some travelling and see things I’ve always wanted to see.

By the end of 2026 I want to be in a position where I can start to save for a house.

Anyone else going to sort their lives out next year?

Joining you. Have had a busy few years with bereavements, serious illness, relationship breakdown, all sorts, now suspected ADHD. But I must and will tackle these things. Decluttering is a big one. Finances another. Fitness another. Will be good to have some company. Going to go and work on the room I started decluttering yesterday. More later.

LoopingStar · 14/12/2025 15:57

I'd love to join but suspect I'll last a week or so.

Heluvathing · 14/12/2025 16:03

Me too! I’ve been struggling for many years with some challenging circumstances. I e lost all motivation . My health is in free fall. I can’t summon any energy to do anything. I don’t want to go on like this.

I need to lose four stones
Sell our house and move away somewhere else
Make new friends
Take up some hobbies
Stop being so negative
Read more
Stop putting myself last
Massively declutter

After a really rubbish 14 months, car written off, both parents unwell and in and out of hospital, missing cat, work stress, money worries, all with the joys of perimenopause, looking after me and doing stuff for me took a back seat.

2026 will be the year, i lose that 2 stone, that I get back into the gym properly, I eat more healthily, I start going out to new places again, I get my bike out and go for bike rides.

I might take up tennis lessons again now that my finances are back on track.

I just need to know how to get rid of the anxiety that I've developed since hitting perimenopause so any ideas on how to get rid of it are welcome.

Scoutingforducks · 14/12/2025 16:57

I will join you all too!
Need to sort out this post.menopausal weight gain
Get a new hobby, well find a hobby
General self care.
Oh and avoiding all the batshit relatives who bring nothing to my life and the friends that "visit" us only because of where we live.

BarilynBordeaux · 14/12/2025 17:00

Me! I’ve had a hell of a year, including the nasty end of a long term relationship, being diagnosed with a second life limiting illness, and currently on week two of the super flu and feeling very sorry for myself!

I need to:

  • get a makeover as I’ve begun frightening myself in shop windows
  • Actually exercise 2-3 times a week instead of imagining myself doing it
  • Actually declutter instead of watching other people do it on YouTube 👀
  • advocate for myself with the GP over niggling medication issues
  • Find the courage to tell the guy I think likes me that I also like him
  • stop spending money on unnecessary bits as a quick way of making myself feel better
Formerdarkhorse · 14/12/2025 17:02

I sorted decluttering last year. For the month of January I did at least 5 things a day (could be big or small or even using something up) in on area, like a drawer, or a room depending on level of decluttering needed and this made it much more manageable. Now I just do this periodically and keep on top of it.

Appalonia · 14/12/2025 17:13

I love the idea of New Year Solutions! I have so many good intentions but often struggle with following through on them. For example, I joined a gym in September to get fit for a holiday, but since my holiday I've lost my motivation! I also bought a subscription to an online oil painting course but I've only dabbled in it. As well as eating healthier and being more organised at home and buying stupid stuff I don't need just for the dopamine hit. I live alone so there's no one to kick me up the arse when I don't keep my word to myself!😂

user1471538283 · 14/12/2025 17:23

Yes me too! I've had a couple of rough years and I would like to:

Get a new job
Finish renovating my home
Go to the gym/walk/jog
Sleep better
Volunteer
Go on holidays
Continue and finish decluttering/sorting out
Completely take care of me instead of others including my anxiety and mental health

New Year, new everything!

love this and will join you!

turn 50 in 2026 - a decade of perimenopause has done a number on me. So this is the year I’m going to commit to actually finally lose 3 stone in weight (exercise, healthy-er eating and more exercise and focus on quality sleep, food and experiences), figure out what I want/need from my working life and declutter our exceedingly cluttered house!

Thelnebriati · 14/12/2025 17:34

I'll join you. I made a start in 2025 and have halved my debts and lost half a stone.

Greatbigmeatpasty · 14/12/2025 18:19

Placemarking. I need to :
Lose 2 stone
Decorate the house
Pay off £10k
Focus on ME a hell of a lot
Seriously cut down on spending
Work through my home to-do list and cross off as much as I can
Get a new wardrobe of clothes
Get DC through exams
Put in more hours at work for TOIL
Apply for promotion, subject to a suitable role being available

Gut my bedroom and re-furnish. This is a hard one, we need fitted wardrobes made to measure and they will be £££££££

humptydumptyfelloff · 14/12/2025 18:30

Love this and am doing exactly the same op

i need to revamp
our spending as most of my earnings go on spending out for others in the family including dh who with age is getting tighter and I’m sick of it.

I really need to get my health and fitness in order as I’ve gained a lot of weight and need to get three stone off

im in peri which is causing havoc so need to get some decent supplements in and self care needs to take a higher priority

BoarBrush · 14/12/2025 19:01

2026 will be the year I sort my shit out. We're moving in Jan and I swear this has to be when I turn over a new leaf.

I became disabled overnight almost 5 years ago, after the initial inability to do anything I seemed to adopt a mindset of "well my life's utterly shit so fuck it" and I've gone absolutely overboard with smoking and drinking.

I feel like utter shit tbh and at 39, I'm not ready to give up just yet.

Angelic999 · 14/12/2025 19:24

I love this!

I want to:

-stop spending mindlessly.
-make appointments for the new year (hair, dentist etc)
-declutter and organise the house
-reduce time wasted on social media
-focus on advancing my career and applying for higher paid roles

Arlanymor · 14/12/2025 19:33

Berrie1 · 13/12/2025 17:42

I’d like to join too please.

I love a list! Here are some of the things I have so far

  1. Pay off debt and manage money better
  2. Complete a course I’m part way through
  3. Live more minimally
  4. Work on side projects
  5. Lose weight
  6. Have a makeover

I have smaller things too I’d like to do - make a dent in my TBR pile, be more organised, learn some new skills etc.

Like others, I am going to make a start now on some things.

Me too and I am going to steal your list (hope that's ok!) and add more to it!

  1. Pay off debt and manage money better - 100%, watch out eBay, you won't know what's hit you! Dry January will help with no wine expenditure!
  2. Complete a course I’m part way through - same, I am going to complete the silver and gold levels for being a Welsh cultural ambassador (I'm already at bronze level)
  3. Live more minimally - again 100%, I do in my mind, but less in reality
  4. Work on side projects - yes, my writing and I want to start a podcast
  5. Lose weight - 100%, stupid menopause, I am now a fatty boom boom and I hate how I look and the fact that none of my clothes fit - I'm going to attack it hard with a diet in January and start a daily exercise regime that is outside in nature (it will be cold and miserable, but I will do it!)
  6. Have a makeover - 100%, again stupid menopause making my hair frizzy and making me so lethargic and apathetic that I can barely be bothered to look nice anymore. I am going to get my hair sorted in January and then in February I am going to get a makeover at Sephora for my birthday
  7. FIND JOY - I have totally lost this part of my life, menopause has been such a crusher and literal weeks have gone by lost to misery, anxiety, fear and exhaustion - my resilience and emotional elasticity is on the floor - so I need to rebuild slowly, at a pace that makes sense to me, but find little chinks of joy in my life from day to day and week to week. Baby steps.
TheToteBagLady · 14/12/2025 19:41

I’m going to have a think about this, and post when I have some ideas

Great thread ⭐

What a refreshing post! GOOD LUCK!!!! ❣️

TheeNotoriousPIG · 14/12/2025 20:14

I'd love 2026 to be the year that I sort my life out, but I fear that work will continue to take up way too much of my time, and leave me with little energy for the rest of it!

  1. Persevere with my Welsh lessons... despite the fact that I am not very good at remembering all of the mutations and 10 ways to say yes and no, depending on the circumstance!
  2. I've booked a trip to a Scottish island (and I'd like to visit two or three while I'm up there!)
  3. Learn something new (I have machine knitting lessons booked)
  4. Pay off any debt (mainly due to trying to fix my house up)
  5. Finally have my new fence put up
  6. Kit my greenhouse out
  7. Grow more fruits and vegetables (so far, my only successes have been physalis, raspberries, tomatoes and beetroot)
  8. Adopt a few ducks or chickens (I'd like to be a bit more self-sufficient, so this is a start)
  9. Possibly think more seriously about starting a family (it's a bit trickier when you are cheerfully single, but there are ways and means to explore!)
  10. Decide what type of flooring to have in the downstairs loo (and to not use it as a dumping ground for work things)
Doyouthinktheyknow · 14/12/2025 20:14

2026 is the year I tackle my alcohol use. I don’t drink loads but it’s my last vice and I see the damage alcohol does in my work everyday. Currently I drink 2 nights a week, I’m going dry for January and then not drinking at home.

This year I’ve lost almost 4 and a half stone and I joined a gym. I feel great for it and hope to build on my health goals next year and happily maintain my new healthy weight. I started my diet towards the end of January and I still can’t quite believe I stuck with it.

This thread is wonderful. I want to hear how everyone does over the course of next year.

oldestmumaintheworld · 14/12/2025 20:33

This is a lovely thread and just what I need to keep my motivation. Ive made a lot of progress in 2025 by working my way down a list of urgent things - getting my teeth fixed after an accident, losing three stone with three more to go, and experimenting with living on a UK pension inspired by a youtuber.
My list for 26 is more dental work, decorate my living room, sort out my kitchen and get back to weight lifting.

Hiphopboppertybop99 · 14/12/2025 20:45

Yes me !! There's quite a list I want to improve in 2026 and like a PP said sometimes it can get overwhelming and don't end up sticking with things. There's things I want to do and things me and my DH need to do. For example I want to lose some weight/ tone around my stomach which has got much more difficult in my late 40s but im determined to improve this in 2026. Im going to change my eating habits and I aim to get us all eating more healthy. But it's so bloody difficult with activities 4 nights after school etc.
We need to do some serious budgeting increase our savings, pay off CC and complete some house repairs. This will definitely take longer than 1 year but with the budgeting I hope we can cut the unnecessary spending, try and reduce some bills etc and 2026 be the starting year it all comes together in a few years.
Good luck to everyone!
