2026 will be the year I sort my life out. Anyone else?

I’m 26. I’m in debt, health wise I’m not doing too great and mentally I could probably be a little better too. So 2026 will be the year I sort it all.

I’m re-evaluating my budget and I’m going to cut all my spending down. I’ll be debt free by the end of the year. I’m going to clear out everything I own and sell it on vinted or at car boot sales. I’m going to change my view on money.

I’ve got a GP appointment in a couple of weeks to sort out my health, I’m hoping they take me seriously and help me start sorting that.

I want to pick up a hobby or too that gets me out of the house and maybe even go on a date or two. I’m going to do some travelling and see things I’ve always wanted to see.

By the end of 2026 I want to be in a position where I can start to save for a house.

Anyone else going to sort their lives out next year?

This is great! I need to join in too! This is my list:

  1. get my mobility back after 2 hip replacements this year.
  2. stop spending more than I can afford - cut my credit card up for starters!
  3. Sort my hair out - possibly grow out the hideously expensive colour and embrace the greys (I’m 64)
  4. Lose a shed load of weight and drastically cut down on the chocolate I eat.
  5. Try and be more patient
  6. Start making more effort with my appearance
  7. start thinking up excuses for what I don’t manage to do on this list 😂

seriously though I really need to do better in 2026. Line drawn!

GreyLion · 14/12/2025 21:17

I am starting this too. I’ve got debts that have got out of hand, been reading up on how I can put things into place to change that. My job is holding me back from doing much with my life so aiming to get something else. I have a friend who I’ve come to realise that I’m doing all the running with meet ups and she moans others have dropped her, Time to quietly move on myself.

No, I am 70 next year. It's about survival from here on in.

Brilliant thread, my list

  1. Lose 3 stone
  2. Exercise more (difficult with disability)
  3. Eat healthy (see 1.)
  4. Practice the new language I started 8 weeks ago
  5. Clean out a cupboard every week
  6. Sell clothes I'll never wear again on Vinted
  7. Budget better (edited to add)

Good luck to everyone taking charge of their lives in 2026

Littlebuddh · 14/12/2025 21:38

2020
Became a minamilist.

2025
Piad all bills off and kept it up so now im a month in front.
Debt free owe nothing to no one.

2026
Is the year i save money, i already do but i mean really save.
I think ive already started to do it, as i have painted my home out with paint, that i got free of face book.
I had to mix some of it but i made it work, greys and whites are just not in anymore, needed to bring back color.
So that saved me a lot of money on paint and rollers.
Mental health im okay.
Travel more this year and get laid more.

TheBoomingVoiceofExperience · 14/12/2025 21:45

Great idea - thanks OP!

last year I sorted out my debt and my job. Now saving and investing which is such a relief.

but this year I need to sort myself out and my house out. Two huge jobs

muddledmidget · 14/12/2025 21:49

I've had a think about my full list of goals that I want to achieve this year while tackling my 27 Excellent Things that im going to use as mini projects to tick off things around the house and at work.

My full list of goals are
1)lose weight and finish 2026 at a healthy BMI
2)have a house where the jobs are finished and routines are in place so I am always visitor ready
3)have worked routines in place so the dayd and weeks flow better and goals get achieved by everyone on my team
4)have fun-i have a goal of doing something fun every week of 2026, might be small like a coffee in a new place or day trip to a new town, or might be bigger like a weekend away but I need more fun in my life!
5)use my gym membership. I have a full membership to a local leisure centre, and have been 4 times in 2025. If I dont use it I need to cancel it, but I want to use it!
6)commit to running and be able to run a half marathon by the end of the year
7)develop self care routines that help me look and feel my best
8)spend my money meaningfully on things that bring purpose or joy to my life. I don't like clothes from the supermarket or cheap shampoo, and I shouldn't waste money on things I dont like. In 2026 my purchases are going to be more carefully thought out and better quality
9)save more money- I have frittered money in 2025 by being too tired to prepare meals at home or to go further than the supermarket to buy the clothes I have needed. Im going to pay myself first on payday and save straight from my wages.
10)put myself and my husband first. Too often out plans or wants are curtailed by my job or my parents, and this year I'm going to be a little more selfish

40andfkd · 14/12/2025 22:00

Well, I was doing ok but I'm 40 and I've just found out I'm pregnant.

I will have a 20 year old and a nearly double-digiter if we go ahead. Oh, and for extra funsies, I'll be due around 2 weeks before we get married. My head is spinning.

I'll read this thread with interest and will be cheering you on here though!

Have you done a statement of accounts?

And, GP-wise; do you have anyone who coud attend with you? Ridiculous that you should have to think about this, but that's the situation we're in.

Lookingforwardto2025 · 14/12/2025 22:05

Please may I join? I have spent the last 3 years either having fertility treatment or recovering from failed fertility treatment. The IVF meds mangled my physical and mental health but I am returning to an even keel now.

I haven't been eating healthily or exercising as regularly as I want. I also seem to pick up viruses too often so want to see if improved diet and exercise help there.

I need to think about exact goals but like others I plan to start straight away!

HoneyParsnipSoup · 14/12/2025 22:05

This year hasn’t been awful but there are a lot of things I want to do differently going forward.

  1. Put my bloody phone away by 10pm every night
  2. Continue not to shout at the kids (I’m a few days in already)
  3. Cut the sugary snacking and lose about 5lb
  4. Pass my driving test (booked for January, but a pass anytime in 2026 will do)
  5. Stop doom scrolling and instead read proper books

Interesting to read everyone else’s, health seems the be the priority for 2026

cosimnotwhereitsat · 14/12/2025 22:09

Me

Lookingforwardto2025 · 14/12/2025 22:10

Thinking of a list of goals as others have done:

  1. Eat healthily at least 80% of the time. A big thing for me will be building up a stock of healthy meals in the freezer rather than reaching for pizzas etc.
  1. Train for and complete a 10k and also start lifting weights. I am 37 so aware I need to really focus on bone health as I approach perimenopause. I do a pilates class once a week which I love but also need to do one session a week at home too.
  1. Do my pelvic floor exercises every day!
  1. Spend less time on my phone when my DS is around.
  1. Get the house ready to go on the market in a year's time.
Lookingforwardto2025 · 14/12/2025 22:10

Not sure why it has posted them all as 1 🤣

JupiterTaz · 14/12/2025 22:12

For anyone needing a look into the future, I had this mind set when I turned 24. I was in debt (thousands of pounds) had lost my job, had a really unhealthy lifestyle and was very much glass half empty. I decided enough was enough and I had to change something!

I’m 33 now, debt free for 5 years, credit score is perfect, savings are healthy, I have a great career, I own my own home, I’m married and have a 16 month old daughter.

I could have quite easily gone the other way. But I’m so glad I had a word with myself!

you don’t need to take my comment as inspiration, I would just say to anyone who really wants to make a change for a better life, it starts with you committing to doing it. It’s bloody hard, but it’s so fucking worth it ☺️

IncessantNameChanger · 14/12/2025 22:21

I will join you. I want to be better at life admin and my housework. They are two areas I'm really rubbish at. I suspect I have ADHD as both kids have just been diagnosed. It's just finding a good routine and sticking to it. Just need to find that routine I guess. I have bought a new tablet to download some housework apps onto.

Beth0 · 14/12/2025 22:27

Absolutely love this idea. Thank you for starting it.

My goals for 2026 are to lose 4 stone sustainably, improve my mobility and flexibility, create a garden I enjoy, have more fun with something to look forward to each week, work on inner happiness and contentment, and improve my sleep.

cheeseomelette · 14/12/2025 22:41

Great thread. I sorted out my friendship circle and decluttered the house this year. I also cut alcohol right back to a single glass of wine on weekend nights only.

I need to improve my fitness this year - it’s still good but it used to be high. I would also like to lose 2 stone.

we have plans to travel extensively and I’d love to think about moving house and clear the final excess of stuff. I’ve made almost £1k on Vinted and have really cut back spending on clothes this year so I don’t bring more clutter in. A few high quality pieces only.

i’d like to read 50 books (almost there this year) and carry on learning the language I’ve been doing this year.

i’d also like to have some creative hobbies of some kind. I adore art but have only basic skills in most things.

CrystalSingerFan · 14/12/2025 23:46

Great thread! Here's my 'solutions not resolutions'.

  1. Submit my tax return! (I am properly hopeless.)
  1. Fix all the obvious problems with my new(ish) house. Looong list.
  1. Get regular massages. (I'm now single and miss human touch.)
  1. Lose 1 stone- I'm currently losing and then regaining 1/2 pounds.
  1. Maybe commit to more studying - it's expensive but I loved my OU studies when I retired.
  1. Write FanFic. (There, I said it.)

Good luck all. (Have edited post to say my original numbering has been changed without warning and I object! Sympathy with PP.)

Frannieisnthappy · 15/12/2025 00:18

Yes, I will join. Past five years have felt like just surviving instead of living. My list:

  1. finish the decorating so that I am not embarrassed for people to visit
  2. declutter - some success with vinted so will keep that going
  3. take pride in myself again - skincare, clothes, eating and exercising. I’ve seen a free standing mirror from Ikea that you can hang your outfits and accessories on behind and love the idea of planning what I will wear for the week ahead. Exercise and strength training. A clean home.
  4. using my time better - stop scrolling and cook better, in turn better food budgeting and healthy eating. Tidy as I go. Read - I used to love it
  5. find a new role at work; I have hit a career plateau and need to progress. The first step is a sideways move into something more purposeful to reset and build my confidence up again
  6. save for a car (v. small budget but want something reliable for days out, shopping and ferrying my lovely DC about (vinted selling will go towards this)
  7. most important - make evenings and weekends with my DC count
  8. less tv which should help points 1-7…
Scarpeta · 15/12/2025 06:26

I’m in.
I’ve suffered a lot of bereavement this year and it’s been about surviving. I’ve felt numb for a lot of it.

I’d like to

  1. get back into a routine with the housework instead of always feeling like I’m playing catchup.
  2. add in a couple of walks for pleasure again
  3. start doing some weights. I just haven’t been able to find motivation as yet.
  4. try to get back into daily yoga, even if I just do ten minutes a day it helps.
  5. be more mindful with spending and stop blowing money.
Bryonyberries · 15/12/2025 07:18

I’m going to be 50 in 2026 so a good year to make changes for the next half century.

I need to get my health sorted - nothing big atm but lots of niggles that could get bigger.

I need to consider my career - I need more money as cost of living is higher than my take home these days.

Now my children are all pretty much grown (youngest will be 17 this year) I can look at finding things that I enjoy without having to put children first all the time.

I have friends from abroad visiting later in the year so going to be hosting so need to work out an itinerary for that.

PersephoneParlormaid · 15/12/2025 07:20

I need to sort my marriage out, either way.

Greatbigmeatpasty · 15/12/2025 08:29

@CrystalSingerFan can I steal your 'get more massages due to missing human touch'. I am married but I need this.

NormasArse · 15/12/2025 09:43

I’ll join! Our house is full of clutter- I want rid!

My health has not been good for a couple of years. I recently discovered I have an autoimmune disease which is affecting my thyroid. I now have the correct medication, so I’m looking forward to having more energy! I’ve already started hiking again, and I’d like to build that up.

I need to work less and save more- more time to enjoy the outdoors, homemade meals, doing jobs on the house, and seeing my grandchildren!

I’m 60 next year- it’s MY year!!

CrystalSingerFan · 15/12/2025 10:40

Greatbigmeatpasty · 15/12/2025 08:29

@CrystalSingerFan can I steal your 'get more massages due to missing human touch'. I am married but I need this.

Please do. Do report backon how it works for you. There are so many different sorts available nowadays. I can't personally imagine what a hot rock treatment would like, but other people must enjoy them.
