2026 will be the year I sort my life out. Anyone else?

I’m 26. I’m in debt, health wise I’m not doing too great and mentally I could probably be a little better too. So 2026 will be the year I sort it all.

I’m re-evaluating my budget and I’m going to cut all my spending down. I’ll be debt free by the end of the year. I’m going to clear out everything I own and sell it on vinted or at car boot sales. I’m going to change my view on money.

I’ve got a GP appointment in a couple of weeks to sort out my health, I’m hoping they take me seriously and help me start sorting that.

I want to pick up a hobby or too that gets me out of the house and maybe even go on a date or two. I’m going to do some travelling and see things I’ve always wanted to see.

By the end of 2026 I want to be in a position where I can start to save for a house.

Anyone else going to sort their lives out next year?

How are we doing?

One of my goals that I wrote on page 1 is to declutter my house. I'm in the process of clearing out my porch (full of car equipment/car cleaning stuff and other general odds and sods belonging to my late husband). I've ordered new flooring, I'm going to repaint and then add some new furniture to create tidier storage and a bench. It's only one thing of many I want to do, but it's a start and I feel good about doing it. I hope others are also starting on their lists.

Gosh January is such a LONG month! 🤣

I've been very productive though, so can't complain.

Got my seed order today and I’ve started sorting my vegetable garden. Done a few little DIY jobs around the house so feel like I’m chipping away at those things. I’ve booked a charity collection with icollect next week so that will clear out some more clutter. I’ve also caught up with a couple of friends this week. Diet is slowly improving. Think I probably need to focus on upping exercise next.

Thinking of it as chipping away slowly at young rather that making big leaps all at once seems to be helping.

Brilliant thread, my list

  1. Lose 3 stone
  2. Exercise more (difficult with disability)
  3. Eat healthy (see 1.)
  4. Practice the new language I started 8 weeks ago
  5. Clean out a cupboard every week
  6. Sell clothes I'll never wear again on Vinted
  7. Budget better (edited to add)

Good luck to everyone taking charge of their lives in 2026

Edited
  1. Lose 3 stone - lost 1 stone, doing Fast800 & IF
  2. Exercise more (difficult with disability) - yoga 6 mornings a week
  3. Eat healthy (see 1.) - yes, stuck to healthy eating
  4. Practice the new language I started 8 weeks ago - yes, loving it
  5. Clean out a cupboard every week - only lasted one week 😥
  6. Sell clothes I'll never wear again on Vinted - only listed & sold one 😥
  7. Budget better - cut back, but didn't manage no spend Jan

January has been a long month, but in some respects, it was fast. I concentrated mainly on healthy eating and sticking to Fast800 for the month. I was shocked by the weight loss. This isn't my first diet rodeo, and next month will be the hardest.

I’ve lost just over 5lbs so far this year.

Thelnebriati · 03/02/2026 21:51

I've lost 4 which is a lot for me - I abandoned the diet the GP recommended in which I had to eat breakfast, and went back to fast 800 3 or 4 days a week.
I've sold a couple of things on ebay and given a load to the charity shop.
Got most of my seeds sorted for this year, cleared out and restocked my pantry, and I've started spring cleaning.

I've just signed up for a fully funded course via the government careers service. I'm hoping not only will it give me a bit more knowledge in the area that my boss works in (as his EA I'd like to know a little of what he does) but I get a buzz from learning and this is a completely new subject for me.

I had an interview for a job, that I really wanted, the other week which I didn't get. So I'm just going to concentrate on improving my skills in my current role and enjoying the flexibility that it gives me.

It's so encouraging to hear of other people's successes. My first one is getting my tax return in and paid by the deadline. (See upthread.) Over a million people apparently didn't, and I used to be one of them :>{

Next, some decluttering... Good luck all.

MakingDoNicely · 04/02/2026 20:36

I booked an icollect charity collection for this morning so I’ve cleared out several bin bags of clothes and bedding. I’m chipping away at clearing out our cupboard under the stairs that we refer to as the cupboard of doom. Once it’s cleared I want to turn it into a proper pantry like it once was and get stocked up on supplies. I’m also trying to eat all the random freezer food and then I’ll do some batch cooking and replace with frozen home cooked meals and hopefully later in the year home grown fruit and veg.

I filed for divorce yesterday (thanks to the 0% offer on my credit card), it's only been 8 years! Now I've got loads of paperwork to deal with, because a) I don't have an address for him and really don't want to call him so need the judge to agree to do it via email, and b) I need to make sure he can't claim any of my, very little, money or my flat or any of my pensions.

It feels good. He's a waste of space and the biggest mistake of my life.

That's another tick off the 2026 list.

I’m in.
I’ve suffered a lot of bereavement this year and it’s been about surviving. I’ve felt numb for a lot of it.

I’d like to

  1. get back into a routine with the housework instead of always feeling like I’m playing catchup.
  2. add in a couple of walks for pleasure again
  3. start doing some weights. I just haven’t been able to find motivation as yet.
  4. try to get back into daily yoga, even if I just do ten minutes a day it helps.
  5. be more mindful with spending and stop blowing money.

Update:

  1. Not at all happened yet
  2. I’ve done a couple but need to get back into doing it every week
  3. Nope
  4. I did 4 or 5 days 😳
  5. Ive been trying really hard. Some slips ups but progress too.

One habit I have managed to add in is daily press ups. I did one every day in the first week, then two every day and am up to eight every day now. I know this will sound completely lame to many people but it’s the only way for me. If I tried to start doing 25 a day straight off I wouldn’t stick to it.

I’m also doing ok at using stuff up before buying more (toiletries, cleaning stuff etc).

4 boxes of stuff went to Anglo collections. There’s still so much stuff but most of it is toys/ craft stuff/books etc which I know we don’t have that many years left of kids wanting so trying not to let it stress me.

Hi all. I am 50 in December and I am determined to lose 4 stone before my birthday. It is just one a pound a week and I know I can do it.

I also need to reduce my credit card debt, keep up with my swimming for my mental health too,

One pound a week is a great way to look at it!
