Don Snoreleone trying to stay awake long enough to bring all his racist dreams to fruition. So when can we bring about his personal "civilisational erasure”?

US FAA has now issued a security warning over Trinidad and Tobago air space. It is now a "Military related danger zone" and "threats can pose a risk to aircraft" until 2nd February. Trinidad and Tobago is not self sufficient in food, so possible food shortages there next and panic buying. If no flights, offshore oil and gas workers might struggle to change shifts.

There will be financial consequences for airlines that fly to the region and expats visiting relatives for Christmas might have an unexpectedly extended visit.

logicisall · 05/01/2026 10:02

Update.

Non-U.S. carriers like Caribbean Airlines and British Airways operating normally. Flights have resumed, though some delays and recovery disruptions may persist.

For those interested in the pure military operation, the latest episode of the Rest is Classified is excellent.

Will the oil companies want to invest billions without protection, has Trump promised boots on the ground?

It's exactly what I expected when markets opened. There's a lot of money to be made in Venezuela.

His skin is even thinner than his blood.

Venezuela, Colombia, Greenland, Canada. Where else has he mentioned as 'necessary to US national security'? National security, lebensraum, there's always a 'buzzword', isn't there?

I'm reminded of a line from a Nazi propaganda song: "Heute gehört uns Deutschland, und morgen die ganze Welt". Loosely translated "Today Germany, tomorrow the World".

Or as one of my old bosses used to say "Shit's gettin' scary, isn't it?". Yes, it surely is.

What an appalling, self-centred, narcissistic ratbag he is. Truly.

When old men do the fighting
And the young men they look on

Serpentstooth · 05/01/2026 14:48

There's going to be an inexplicable outbreak of bonespurs among young US men in the near future. RFK will blame it on childhood vaccinations.

And an upsurge in the young adult population of Canada and Mexico. And I'm sure 'simpatico' places beyond.

You know, I'm also reminded of a quote from the US Civil War; "It's a rich man's war and a poor man's fight".

After Uni, a friend who moved to Bicester became friends with a guy who had moved to the UK to avoid the draft in the early 70s.

Married a British girl and became a US ex-pat who - despite Carters pardon - never wanted to go back. Even after cancer took his wife :(

Unbeknownst to our parents my brother was pretty much packed and ready to go to Canada with a couple of mates back in 1969, the year they turned 19. Luckily my brother's & one mate's birthdates got high numbers so they didn't need to worry. His other friend got a student deferment.

It's sobering to think that about 5x as many Russians have died in Ukraine (plus a few Indians who though they were joining book club) than Amercians who died in Vietnam.

And whatever else you may think about Harold Wilson (and his motives) the man remains a stone cold hero for ensuring the UK stayed well out of the whole mess. To the extent that even the most batshit of comnspiraloons haven't tried to suggest there is a whole "UK in Vietnam" blackops story to peddle.

@SerendipityJane

I had no idea! US VN military deaths 58,000. Russian troop deaths estimated at 120k, almost twice as many in a much shorter timeframe.

I wonder if it's because VN was still during the age of 'hand to hand' warfare with airstrikes as secondary and Ukraine is more about air power 'primary' which cause more deaths per strike. Not that I have any real idea, just surmising.

AcrossthePond55 · 05/01/2026 21:26

Rep Jim Jordan (R) is on CNN saying that the Senate will 'likely' vote on Thursday on Trump's 'war powers'. I came in in the middle so I don't know specifically what they're voting on about his war powers.

Edit: Possibly this?

Couple of North Koreans as well, who's rather face near certain death in Ukraine than returning

On the Colombia/ Venezuela narco stuff: isn't one of Trump's sons a rabid coke head? I imagine it's a personal Vendetta for Trump
