Mine was - what an absolute pillock!
We were on a works do in NYC.
Not the same company.
He was buying rounds like he was old Rockefeller 🙄
Turns out he was the company accounts holder.
This was coming up to 30 years ago now.

He was the lead singer in a band who were rehearsing in the local village hall.

I walked in just as they started playing Wild Thing.
I thought "I want to marry that boy."
I did. 42 years later he's still making my heart sing.

HighLadyofTheNightCourt · 09/12/2025 16:17

That he was the nicest person I'd ever met.

itsmycheese · 09/12/2025 16:19

I though he looked kind, and Scottish.

He is very kind but not even a bit Scottish.

TheMorgenmuffel · 09/12/2025 16:20

He was really thin and needed taking care of.
And had awful taste in jumpers.

Tryingatleast · 09/12/2025 16:20

Very smiley!

Milliemoons · 09/12/2025 16:20

He was a cute little nerd with a lot of humble confidence. He was a boss without being bossy (we met at work). He respected the women around him when others didn’t.

biggerpicture · 09/12/2025 16:20

That his profile picture on the app doesn’t match his real looks. His picture was way worse and I was surprised.

LML1989AL · 09/12/2025 16:44

He was 8 years older than me, he was mates with my neighbour, who was having a party, I was absolutely smashed, he told me I was an embarrassment, but kindly ordered me a taxi 🤣

We bumped into each other 2 months later, I was fortunately sober…. The rest is history’.

BiggyJ · 09/12/2025 16:56

I awwed at all your stories but then I got to @LML1989AL which made me laugh 😂

Tall, dark and handsome 😀

Overtheatlantic · 09/12/2025 16:58

That he had terrible fashion sense but was very witty and easy to talk to.

Theharmlessone · 09/12/2025 17:00

My first impression was good lord he is handsome, he smiled at me and I turned to goo. I feel lucky every day that we are together ❤️

AwakeNotThruChoice · 09/12/2025 17:01

He seemed really genuine and kind. Not at all showy offy or arrogant. Which I love.
nothing seemed to phase him.
He also was besotted by me and so that shortly ended up being reflected back :)

Dolamroth · 09/12/2025 17:04

He was grumpy and wearing a pink shirt (that was pretty bold mid nineties) so I was unimpressed. Then he smiled at me ❤️

cheapskatemum · 09/12/2025 18:25

That he was very helpful and knew a lot about cameras (this was in 1984, so pre Smart phones).

AgentPidge · 09/12/2025 18:29

Phwoar! Floppy dark hair, beautiful blue eyes, sexy smile, shy.

Bernadinetta · 09/12/2025 18:31

Thought he looked like a scruffy indie boy… which was just my type

IHeartJeff · 09/12/2025 18:31

I was attracted to his eyes, so brown and deep.

FlatErica · 09/12/2025 18:36

I thought he was kind and nice and I liked that he spoke to me and listened to me like an equal. And he had kind eyes.

ScottishSheepie · 09/12/2025 18:39

Nice teeth

everdine · 09/12/2025 18:51

He looked like a hippy! Holes in his jeans, bare footed, needed a hair cut but he was reading a book which I liked!

DemonsandMosquitoes · 09/12/2025 18:56

We were students. He was drunk. As was I probably. He had a hideous shirt on from Stockport market. 35 years later he still has it!

iSage · 09/12/2025 19:10

We talked about rock music when we met (in a pub, he was a peripheral acquaintance of my sister) and he was wearing leather, so I had him down as an ageing rocker type, probably without many interests outside rock music, motorbikes etc. I liked him anyway, so agreed to meet him the next day. I was very pleasantly surprised to find him successfully completing a crossword while waiting for me and to discover we had a mutual interest in railways! He had kept his geeky side hidden, but I am an arch-geek myself so I was delighted to uncover it.

Justmadesourkraut · 09/12/2025 19:11

That
a) He was very tall.
b) He fancied me
c) I'd rather like to kiss him

29 years later and we're still going strong.

TrentCrimmsflowinglocks · 09/12/2025 19:18

A bit cocky. Absolutely whip-smart. Terrible dress sense.

We’ve been together 27 years so it obviously didn’t put me off that much! (And he dresses much better these days!)
