Mine was - what an absolute pillock!
We were on a works do in NYC.
Not the same company.
He was buying rounds like he was old Rockefeller 🙄
Turns out he was the company accounts holder.
This was coming up to 30 years ago now.

I opened my front door, and there he was - a total coup de foudre :) I'd arranged a get-together for people I knew from an online group - he was the last to arrive. That was on the Friday. On the Monday he came back - and never left - 30 years later, we're still together :)

blankcanvas3 · 09/12/2025 20:18

He sat next to me in our school library and he saw that I was struggling with my maths homework. He offered to help and I thought ‘what a nice guy! actually…he’s quite good looking too!’. We’ve been inseparable ever since, and together 18 years now

Oioiqueen · 09/12/2025 20:23

A kind sophisticated man who was mature and had his life sorted. He was working full time, had just bought his own HA flat and was driving. Whereas I was finishing off my degree. I was nearly 22 at the time and found the men on my course so immature so found DH online. He was the only weirdo that wasn't messaging me constantly, talking dirty or just being weird. There is 5 years between us but you'd never know as we meet in the middle for maturity. That was 15 years ago and I will never be with anyone else.

Rustymoo · 09/12/2025 20:29

God, he’s sex on legs, very tall, 6’2, wild hair, designer stubble and a glimpse of hairy chest. Spoke with Received Pronunciation so thought he’d be way out of my league and not interested in a lass from Glasgow. 40 years still going strong, proof that opposites do attract.

goodnightssleepbenice · 09/12/2025 20:32

What a polite quiet young man . He was 25 , I was 32 and a single mum to 3 . He pursued me for months , been together 20 years now ❤️

NotMyRealAccount · 09/12/2025 20:39

I was surprised that he was white. From his first name and his occupation, I'd assumed that he'd be black.
Then I thought my friend whose new boyfriend he was at the time had chosen wisely, because he seemed very gentle and stable.
My three youngest children met him at the same time, because why would I not let them be there when my friend brought her new boyfriend to meet me? He coped very well with them jumping all over him.
(I was just starting a FWB situation with someone else post-separation and getting into another relationship was the furthest thing from my mind. When we did get together 15 months later he told me it had been love at first sight for him, but I think he may have made that up because he's the sort of man who says lovely things.)

Pub weekend jolly.
I fancied everything about him so much that I couldn't even speak to him and I kept avoiding him and just gazing at him from a distance. I knew he'd never fancy me but it made me realise that i deserved better than the on/off feeble relationship i was in at the time so I ended it and moved on with my life

We met up by accident the following year. Been married 27 years now.

Wonderful voice, great conversation - first contact was telephone, as we worked for the same company, different locations.

Bunnymcgee · 09/12/2025 20:45

I thought he was sex on legs when I met him. He was so handsome and loads of fun with great chat. Our first date was ice climbing in the mountains in winter and I was a fairly experienced climber but he was so much more experienced than me and had amazing stories of his adventures. I knew straight away that this was someone that I would have amazing experiences with (and I absolutely fancied the pants off him). We have had loads of incredible adventures though they have changed a lot in recent years as we are now doing them with 4 kids in tow. I still fancy the pants off him though.

Tall. Can’t remember much else. Both off our faces at the time.

Wonderknicks · 09/12/2025 21:13

"uh oh, this one's going to be trouble"
He wasn't really.

pestowithwalnuts · 09/12/2025 21:16

I saw him at the end of the bar..he was looking at me and so I looked back at him.
He walked the length of the room to speak to me.
His Geordie accent melted me and I thought ' I'm having you '

And I did.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 09/12/2025 21:20

He looked like he would play rugby. ( he doesnt)
Tall and gorgeous blonde hair. I really fancied him!
Been together 32 years.

namechangedtemporarily123 · 09/12/2025 21:23

I saw (accurate) photos (not from a dating site) before we met so thought he looked hot. Anyone who knew him spoke highly of him. When we actually met he was easy to talk to, straightforward and sure of himself, not in a cocky way, just straightforward, calm and without any weirdness, quirks or insecurities. Still like that now, he really steadies me when I’m feeling anxious and is perfectly mannered and all of my friends think he’s great.

AmyDuPlantier · 09/12/2025 21:48

That he was the most handsome man I’d ever seen in real life.

Musicaltheatremum · 09/12/2025 22:31

First husband..thought he was a pompous idiot but then fell in love. Second husband I fancied him like mad the minute I set eyes on him. 7 together and 3 married and I still think he's absolutely gorgeous. He is 67 today!

TFthatsover · 09/12/2025 23:07

Gorgeous and carefree. He still has the same ice blue eyes and devilish smile 30 years later.

Blinky21 · 09/12/2025 23:19

That he was the most entertaining person I'd ever met, 20 years later I feel the same, i've never met anyone as funny or engaging

NeedWineNow · 09/12/2025 23:20

My boss’s mate. Didn’t fancy him but we always had a laugh when we met. My boss was always trying to get us together and I always said‘he’ll dance at my wedding but won’t be the bridegroom’.

He turned up for lunch with my boss one day, and said to me ‘I still owe you lunch’ and that was that. Started going out in the October, he proposed the following June and we married in the September a year later, 29 years ago.

He’s my everything and I can’t imagine being without him.

Imanexcellentdrivercharliebabbit · 09/12/2025 23:21

TheMorgenmuffel · 09/12/2025 16:20

He was really thin and needed taking care of.
And had awful taste in jumpers.

Are you married to Jarvis Cocker? X

Autumvibes · 09/12/2025 23:29

I peered down at the front door of a party, he was walking in. Saw him and thought “that’s the rest of my life”.

biggestcatmom · 09/12/2025 23:32

Grumpy looking fucker when I used to see him in the workplace, almost scary. We spoke on a work night out and I realised he was a decent person. Got together about 2 years later, I never thought that I’d be his type as he was incredibly fit and muscular, didn’t realise that he’d fancied me since before we spoke. Been married 17 wonderful years. BTW he had a great brain to go with his muscles 🤣

Defender90 · 09/12/2025 23:38

I thought he was handsome, seemed kind, had a lovely sporty car and I was jealous when my pal kissed him on the cheek. That was 1999.
