Mine was - what an absolute pillock!
We were on a works do in NYC.
Not the same company.
He was buying rounds like he was old Rockefeller 🙄
Turns out he was the company accounts holder.
This was coming up to 30 years ago now.

Complete idiot. Met him at on my first day in a new job. He was a manager driving me to a site meeting. Drove like an idiot and I felt sick the entire time. Thought he was over compensating.

Within a year we moved in together. Married ten years this year and I adore him.

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 09/12/2025 23:40

Scruff, dirty, hippie boy. It took a year to clean him up to presentable and then we got together.

He was the lead singer in a band who were rehearsing in the local village hall.

I walked in just as they started playing Wild Thing.
I thought "I want to marry that boy."
I did. 42 years later he's still making my heart sing.

Awww, that’s awesome… I hope you and gw make each others hearts sing in unison 💕

Doteycat · 09/12/2025 23:55

That he had the most beautiful eyes i had ever seen. I still think that.
And now my 3 dad's have his eyes. They make my heart burst.

BauhausOfEliott · 10/12/2025 00:26

He was a colleague in the same team as me. On my first day in the job we had a team meeting and I thought “Blimey, that bloke seems really bored”. Then the next day he was sitting opposite me and I was listening to him chatting with other colleagues and kept wanting to laugh because he was so dry and sarcastic. I didn’t fancy him straight away but a few weeks later we went to some work drinks thing or other, got hammered and ended up in bed together.

OllieJanos · 10/12/2025 00:35

Saw her crazy messy hair and piercing blue eyes across the staff canteen and knew she was the woman for me... it took 6 months of plucking up courage to ask her out but 20 years later... yep Crazy hair and pretty eyes, Im a sucker for them still to this day.

Redburnett · 10/12/2025 00:38

He made me laugh which was a refreshing change for me at that time.

Placeoftides · 10/12/2025 00:39

First day of university. Group lectures, there was literally 100s of us. He was in the front row, extremely handsome and the best rainbow dreads I've ever seen. Me in the back row, tatty brown dreads and I'd forgotten my notebook. It took a while but we've been happily married nearly 25 years x

currentlybrunette · 10/12/2025 00:41

I thought he was smug, talented, but a total player.

And he was while he was single and enjoying it 🤣 We’ve been together 17 years now and married for 10.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 10/12/2025 00:55

Apparently my first impression of DP was non existent.

I'd just got back from a year travelling, and a mate invited me out with a bunch of people he worked with. I'd met a few of them before.

Anyway, this woman starts talking to me, asks how Australia was, says things that indicate we've met before. I'd have sworn I'd never laid eyes on her before. Apparently we'd met twice before, the last time a week before I left the country, during which we had a long conversation.

And it's true, because I have photos of that night and she's in them! Still have no memory of meeting her though!

TippityTappity2 · 10/12/2025 00:56

My immediate thought was “HOW is he available?!” Handsome, successful, pure gentleman 🤔 So I was skeptical to say the least. Eight years on and although we’ve had a few minor bumps along the road, we’re still so much in love with each other. He’s my best friend. I’m eternally grateful for what we have found. If it doesn’t last, for whatever reason, I won’t be seeking another romantic relationship. He’s my one.

SizeableBadBoys · 10/12/2025 01:00

I was in the pub with a group of casual friends when he joined us and introduced himself. He looked as if he was carrying the world on his shoulders. Other than that introduction I didn't see him or speak to him for the rest of the night, but when I left and was saying goodbye to everyone he was sat there and it was like a light had been switched on. His complexion was glowing, his eyes were bright and he had a gorgeous smile. I thought about him all the way home on the bus, how a night out with good people can make such a difference when you are down on your luck. The next time the group met up we ended up sitting together, I told him about a local gig I was going to and he said he might get a ticket. I'd been resolutely single since my divorce but there was something about him that had really got to me, so I messaged him the next day asking him if he wanted to come to the gig with me. He did. We had a full on teenage snog at the end of the night and have been inseparable ever since. I actually had a MN thread about it at the time, because I was panicking about having asked him out. Every reply was so positive and encouraging, there were even some asking if they needed to buy a hat! I wish I could remember my username back then so I could re-read it!

I was invited to a party in 1974, I was 18. In the hallway I met the most beautiful lady, long brunette hair, blue eyes, lovely perfume. She was 22. I danced with her, we shared a glass of water, we danced again, we stayed together until 3 in the morning. I took her home in my car. We are about to celebrate our golden anniversary.

LupaMoonhowl · 10/12/2025 03:53

Lovely stories!
Saw him across the room at a sit down meal with large group of hobby friends. He looked like s boring middke aged man and I didn’t get to speak to him. A few months later we met at a barbecue and got talking. He was the most interesting, lovely guy - clearly interested in me, but wearing a wedding ring…Transpired he was widowed… He walked me home, we started dating and he is the best person. At first sight I hadn’t been physically attracted to him at all, on the second date we dtd since then I find him the sexiest ever 😀

firstofallimadelight · 10/12/2025 06:16

I had been single about 18 months, my friend set up a night out to meet her boyfriend’s friends. We were all chatting and he looked at me and smiled and I got butterflies. We swapped numbers and messaged each other and had our first date a month later. The first couple dates were nice but not outstanding then the third date we really seemed to click with each other.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 10/12/2025 06:18

How tall he was (nearly a foot taller than me). His lovely deep voice, and slight Yorkshire accent. His 'presence' (hard to describe).

muddyford · 10/12/2025 06:39

How smiley he was with a strong face. Then he gave me a lift and it was weirdly erotic seeing his hands on the steering wheel, an inch of skin before a snowy shirt cuff and a jacket sleeve. Mmmm.

ArcticGrass · 10/12/2025 08:21

Handsome, smart, really nice bum. He was the new young big boss.

BiggyJ · 10/12/2025 12:06

These are all lovely to read! Makes a nice change to all losers we hear about habitually on MN.

But was he the same as the old young big boss? ;)

Echobelly · 10/12/2025 15:13

Our eyes met across a crowded dance floor and I thought 'Ooh, he's cute'. His thoughts were similar though he was also bit worried I might be too young because although I was 24 I did look like I might be under 18 at the time (he was 28).

HelpMeUnpickThis · 10/12/2025 15:19

I didnt live in London but I travelled down for hours by train to meet him.

He kept me waiting for over 2 hours - with me standing outside London Bridge station trying to call him - because he had been on a night out and slept in.

We are divorced now.

mindutopia · 10/12/2025 15:31

I thought he was absolutely ridiculous. We were both working overseas in a ‘developing country’ setting. I went out for after work drinks with a colleague and he came along with a colleague of his who knew my friend. He had big bushy bozo the clown hair at the time. 😂 So he looked ridiculous. And he rocked up in this bar and ordered the dodgy local wine they make in a bucket out back. And I was like, you’re going to make yourself sick drinking that and laughed at him. But he insisted because he was determined to drink the cheapest thing on the menu. And I just thought he was absolutely bonkers. 🤣

We started dating a month later and we’ve been together going on 18 years now. His hair is not so ridiculous anymore and I’m pleased to say his culinary tastes have also improved with age.

DarkForces · 10/12/2025 15:33

That he was the man I'd end up with. I was dating someone else at the time but I just knew. A year later we were engaged!

Iliketulips · 10/12/2025 15:48

I was annoyed with him and his friend as his friends's car was blocking car park entrance to our flats and my friend and myself couldn't get out. Went over to have a moan, and got chatting. It was a large block and I didn't realise he lived above me, until he came down a few days later and invited me and my friend to his party - nine weeks later we were engaged and still together 32 years later. I looked absolutely awful when he came down with invite, but we just got talking. He's seen me at my worst - annoyed, hair everywhere and a mix of outfits on as I was changing to go to exercise.
