10billion unrecoverable that’s bloody criminal & yet the Tories are lauded far n wide for being fiscally competent & Labour the spendthrifts.
shocked at the LibDems not voting on the workers right bill.

Especially when this happens regarding HMRC. https://www.theguardian.com/money/2025/dec/06/hmrc-christmas-side-hustle-sellers-tax-earnings-allowance

HMRC warns Christmas side-hustle sellers over tax on festive earnings

Crafters, artisans and others told to declare income if above £1,000 trading allowance in tax year

LIb dems - surprised they voted no.
Wonder why.
Disappointed ( and I am a big fan of Daisy Cooper. )
I wonder what the thinking/strategy was.

Cutting benefits?

She is not asking for a time machine don'tcha know

I wonder if the Motability scheme offers Time Machines?

🚨BREAKING🚨

MPs have voted to PASS our bill to establish a UK-EU customs union.

The Prime Minister must now listen to his own MPs, drop his self-imposed red lines and finally go for proper growth through an ambitious trade deal with the EU.

Don’t , some fool will think it’s true & start a thread.

Doesn't the speaker get a vote then ? With the tradition being to vote against anything that would change the status quo ?

“This principle was that the Speaker should use their casting vote in a way that allows the opportunity for more debate and consideration.” (Depends on stage of vote etc) As per the Lily thread.

And so it seems that indeed the Lib Dems did a jobbie regarding workers rights as opposed to Customs Union. And got the support of RUK. Great work!

SerendipityJane · 09/12/2025 17:45

Farage was absent, people have noted

You don’t think SNP Plaid etc would have voted in favour of customs union?

I am sure someone has actually done it, but a fascinating angle of English history is how the CofE came to settle as Calvinist, not Lutheran, and form into the shape it became between swings of extremism in a way that no other European state ever really managed. And whether that process was driven by the unique contingencies of being England, or the ever wobbly Tudor dynasty.

Certainly ignoring the pope didn't seem to do any harm.

I'm fascinated by what people believe and believed and claim they believe and actually believed. Therein lies the power. And it matters, because Farage is really a modern day papist agitator with his flock, his credo.and his foreign master.

Well seeing as you brought the derogatory term papist up (and shamefully applying it to Farage) can I present to you the Calvinist vote i.e. Presbyterian, on that fateful day in June 2016.

The papists won a resounding YES for Northern Ireland. And the atheists lent a hand too.

Yes to Remain of course. As did Scotland.

Labour and Plaid Cymru campaigned to Remain in Wales but the costal areas decided No to Remain.

And of course we all know what happened in England.

Notonthestairs · 10/12/2025 06:02

I think it’s a shame Labour didn’t choose to throw their weight behind the Customs Union motion.
That would have rendered a deal with other parties unnecessary.

We know the Tories & Reform are locked in to uphold the Oven Ready Deal no matter the cost to the UK.
