A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Regional perspective here, NE Scotland is expecting further job losses imminently in the local papers today after the budget. The decision to not amend the Energy Profits Levy is widely expected to lower tax revenue as well. People here are very despondent.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckg9z2r8d3ko

Their attitude to the Scottish energy industry is scandalous

Alll the while importing it from elsewhere

we predicted this too - what we’ve got here is the first salvo in the battle Labour want to have with reducing SEN costs.

of all the many things they’ve failed to reform, they fancy they can take down this group of parents, kids and teachers supporting.

Yep all predicted and predictable

Sorry, what is ‘bps’? I googled it and it came up with ‘bits per second’ and British Pharmacological Society’.

Its short for basis points

I really like this thread

one thing I notice a lot on lefty threads is a total lack of humour, it’s all so pious, performative seriousness, take every sarcastic comment the wrong way deliberately

Spot on. Pious, judgemental, supercilious. Lacking in humour. Awful. It’s much nicer here 😂❤️

It’s so tough. It’s getting harder I’m sure.

I can’t listen but Times radio just said she took the question on growth personally. Got quite affronted.

I didn’t listen to Torsten Bell either but apparently he was rude as.

They get angry don’t they under pressure. It’ll get even more as growth stalls.

It’s similar to guilty people getting angry when cornered. They’ve no where to go so get even angrier. DARVO etc.

CambridgeSingers · 27/11/2025 09:47

Agree Kemi made me laugh yesterday with some good jokes and given my pension pot was hit to the tune of just under £100k, quite an achievement!

Yes!!! 🙌

😂😂 me too! And dogs of course.

AlexandraBee · 27/11/2025 13:25

My dad says all cats are serial killers. But ours aren’t. They just flump around purring / staring / sleeping / eating. Go out for about 30 seconds and think better of it.

Yes my dad says cats are murderers. She does bring in the odd mouse but she's getting old now and largely just sleeps all day!

Catatemyhomework · 27/11/2025 13:30

Talking of my dad, I'm putting off ringing him. He's pretty right wing and will be seething after the budget. He's the only person I know who can out rant me. He will be shouting about the hideous left! 😂😂

InterestQ · 27/11/2025 13:44

I always think centrists and veering to the right are more likely to be dog people. I’m centrist and always thought I leaned left but apparently I don’t any more and quite like both but dogs over cats any day!

I was just reading about this. WTAF.
So if that £6bn comes out of the budget for education, that represents a 4.9% fall. They won't let that happen, so presumably more tax/borrowing? LAs are also in massive debt due to SEND costs, so will they be compensated etc.

Other things in the OBR report appear to have been guesstimated at best, and the ERB hasn't even been costed. I think there will be much more to come out of this budget that hasn't yet been properly scrutinised.

That's interesting @InterestQ, my DH is left leaning and all about DDog whereas I'm right leaning and I'm all about DCat!

I can agree with this. Despite my past political leanings I have never had a “told you so”, and that would be so easy to do.

justasking111 · 27/11/2025 15:21

DH said at lunchtime watching the sum up. They've given up on education and the NHS haven't they

Oddly we've a private GP clinic opening up in a town three miles from us pay over £1k per annum you get two health checks per annum two teeth checks per annum and 30 minute gp appointments. Another one is opening 15 miles away. Both inside dental practices. The health board have given the nod very quietly to this.

We're going two tier in this corner of Wales it seems.

Yes completely given up on health + education.
Soggy toast will solve it all

EmeraldRoulette · 27/11/2025 15:38

@justasking111 that's interesting

do you know how many GP appointments would be covered in that £1000? It sounds like a form of private insurance without having to do all the assessments.

I don't know how much private health costs these days.

Interesting.
Ed and George also said that the chancellor did not need to extend the income tax freeze. They also said the black hole created by the productivity downgrade was largely offset. She needed approx £6bn which she could have raised with other measures.

OP posts:
CambridgeSingers · 27/11/2025 15:51

yes, as usual, all of the non directly involved with Labour policy economists think this was a bad budget, where she was disingenuous, ignored the growth problems and any attempts to reform tax for growth.

Dan Neidle not happy either - says he knows the briefings to press were real and not fabricated by the press.

kemi has nailed this - we’ve got a lame duck Labour govt being pushed around by backbenchers .
