A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I really like this thread

one thing I notice a lot on lefty threads is a total lack of humour, it’s all so pious, performative seriousness, take every sarcastic comment the wrong way deliberately

Alastair C commented on this saying it didn’t seem worth the effort. He reckons they originally planned a much higher tax and have backed down in the face off blow back either from London Labour MPs or others (wealthy donors maybe?)

Edited

The NRLA (Landlords association) says the tax will be based on 2026 valuations.

I just want to know how they plan to do this? Does someone from the couincil come in and inspect? Do they go on purchase price and link it to inflation? They don't take into account it seems what actual equity is in the property. Landlords will merely of course pass it onto renters or get out of the market thus creating a more difficult renters market than it is already.

So many questions....

Mansion tax is forecast to raise 400m or the cost to open the NHS’s doors for 24 hours….
Right on.

I disagree It will probably cost the country £10 Billion in terms of House Sales, inward Investment from foreign millionaires and driving out wealthy businessmen and families who have had enough.

This Government does not understand 'consequences' to policies or I am beginning to think they know exactly what they are doing. This is a plan from the CCP to not just bring, the United Kingdom but Western Europe France, Germany.

The plans to do so being not 'identical' because each country has their own weak spots. In the UK it has always been around the 'Class Issues' that allow the Politics of envy to work. Germany it is obviously around the evils of the Nazi's hence no opposition to Merkel's mass immigration, which kicked off the current migrant situation. France has Scars like Belgium from their 'occupation' and behavior in the African colonies, therefore again due to guilt have allowed Radical Islamic Sentiments to grow.

Agree Kemi made me laugh yesterday with some good jokes and given my pension pot was hit to the tune of just under £100k, quite an achievement!

redange · 27/11/2025 09:48

To not just ruin .

redange · 27/11/2025 09:49

£10 Billion a Year cost to the Economy if Mansion Tax is imposed.

I've just realised that it's thanksgiving today. Another trick from Reeves?

Sorry, got sidetracked with some work.
I don’t trade sovereign bonds so just trying to see what’s driving it. It appears it might be driven by Sweden may be partly responsible with their increased fiscal deficit.

Overseas investors typically own about 30% so not sure it’s a Thanksgiving issue.

DancingFerret · 27/11/2025 09:56

I'd not heard "Little Torsten" speak until he was interviewed on R4 yesterday evening - and he was just shocking in his responses; belligerent, defensive, aggressive, and so arrogant.

Labour in a nutshell.

TheNuthatch · 27/11/2025 07:39

Yep. Its the lies and gaslighting.
I saw James Murray in an interview yesterday. The journo said he was lying, with evidence. Murray just repeated what he had said and continued. They know they are lying. They know that we know they are lying.

I think I saw that, was it sky news and Sam Coates said he was lying and Murray just repeated himself and Coates just shrugged his shoulders and muttered incomprehensibly while Sophie Ridge tried to keep the show on the road?

What a mess yesterday was.

Yes that was it.
Also Ed Conway told him he was wrong, but nope.

Thanks for the new thread.
Lots of different opinions on line and the phone in shows about the budget.
Im still not convinced that RR wanted to scrap the two child cap, but it’s done now.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 27/11/2025 10:29

It's like establishing another form of leasehold with the mansion tax.

I would have thought Labour are against feudalism.

EasternStandard · 27/11/2025 10:36

Breaking.

The chancellor refused to rule out more tax rises in next year’s Budget after dropping a £30bn tax bomb on Britain yesterday.

LBC. Love a bit of journo anger. Breaking means we’re pissed.

She's learned her lesson after last year statements.

Sorry, what is ‘bps’? I googled it and it came up with ‘bits per second’ and British Pharmacological Society’.

abdnhiker · 27/11/2025 11:06

Regional perspective here, NE Scotland is expecting further job losses imminently in the local papers today after the budget. The decision to not amend the Energy Profits Levy is widely expected to lower tax revenue as well. People here are very despondent.
