A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

With my post you can see how the Benefits System is not working, Penalizes those caring for Disabled Elderly Relatives with £83 a week and no UC if a Caring Person has £16K after paying tax. However, if you have 5 children you get UC of £3,000 a Month.

The system stinks and is not supporting the 'Disabled' either just those who are gaming the system.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 26/11/2025 21:51

6 grand a month for looking after her own children?

WTF am I working my arse off?

hamstersarse · 26/11/2025 21:53

I missed the thread today and I’m sure it was covered but I just wanted to offer some appreciation for Kemi today. She was glorious

I can't actually cope with reading any more about how much money people on benefits are already getting and how much more they will get after this budget whilst us workers pay more tax and earn less money to pay for their life of leisure. It is so depressing😣

I feel the same. I know some on MN would say well you give up work and go on benefits then if you think it’s such a great, easy life.

Maybe I will just do that thing. Except I won’t because I want to continue to set a good example to my children.

Never have I felt so resentful.

redange · 26/11/2025 21:54

Are these people posing for the Newspapers 'Stupid' or are they taking the piss like Asylum Seekers in 4 star Hotels. They really are risking the wrath of the public. If i was one of them, I would stay hidden behind Black Curtains.

Don’t forget the 30 hours free childcare so she can get a rest

justasking111 · 26/11/2025 21:59

So in my left pocket the budget has given £150 for energy bills. In my right pocket has yanked out higher taxes on savings.

Again thefeckless win.

This is insane. Why is mn not talking about this.

Pacificsunshine · 26/11/2025 22:20

Checking in! I’ve done a name change.

Preston leans left, so if he is worried about benefits, it’s a signal.

Kemi was en form! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

£6142 is way, way into 6 figure territory after tax, SL and NI. Yet she is just barely managing. Wow. That 2nd case study is a clear example of how messed up the system is. Shocking. From The Mirror as well. I can’t believe Labour are being trolled by The Mirror! Just goes to show how high benefits really are in comparison to taxed salaries.

That’s £114,000 gross plus
entitlements to extras those on these sort of salaries don’t get

+£ free 30 hours childcare
+£ free school meals
+£ very cheap broadband
+£ free or reduced cost prescriptions, eye tests and vouchers for glasses, dentistry

So someone earning £114,000 with kids is far worse off than someone who doesn’t work this is
just accounting for extras alone

but
let’s not forget working has costs
-£ travel
-£ holiday care for kids ( most of us only get 5 weeks holiday)
-£ before and after school care because again very few jobs accommodate school hours

I despair that yet again it becomes more and more financially beneficial not to work!

Council tax reduction as well.

Is this where the sane people hang out?

TheRubyRedshoes · 26/11/2025 22:50

@EasternStandard I can't get into x what does Peston say ?

Sandyoldshoes · 26/11/2025 22:52

I just feel sick. We work hard and have always done the prudent thing. Not extravagant. Good salaries but 2 kids and nothing left at the end of the month. Uni approaching and will only be able to get minimum grant. And I work in a private school (it’s the nearest school by some distance, not posh, lots of sen) with redundancies looming thanks to this bunch of fools. I don’t actually know how we will cope and it’s been done by our own government!! And no, there aren’t jobs to walk into!! What other government deliberately sabotages a productive sector, deliberately creating unemployment?

I wonder if there is a way round it - ie pay £1.99 million for the house, and then purchase fixtures and fittings in a separate transaction? You can be sure someone will try that one!

How will houses be valued? Will the size of the garden or any land that goes with it be included? Or stables and outbuildings?
A house in a very poor state of repair is worth less than one of a similar size and location in good repair so will every owner of houses that could be worth £2 million be obliged to let a government surveyor inspect the property?
(That used to happen in the GDR if the owner was suspected of having a valuable piece of art - and then the owner would be sent a tax bill and so have to sell the work of art to pay it).

The morning after the night before…

Business chides Reeves for not kick-starting growth in the Budget
Bosses accuse chancellor of not delivering on Labour’s pledge to boost output.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves is failing to fulfil her promise to kick-start growth, business leaders have said, after her Budget focused on £26bn of tax rises to fund higher welfare spending and increase her fiscal buffer.

Several chief executives said Reeves had done little to incentivise businesses to grow, other than by not implementing potential measures such as a tax raid on banks. At the same time many companies face a steep increase in costs, including a sharp rise in the minimum wage contained in the Budget on Wednesday, as well as planned new laws to boost workers’ rights, and last April’s rise in employer national insurance contributions.

And nothing to incentivise people to spend either - I’m not rushing out to spend money as I’ve got no confidence from all of that of things improving. Savings still the dominant plan for anyone that can…

If it’s any consolation, the vast majority of media comment is extremely negative to the budget.
