A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Nothing much to report from the BBC appearance

she’s still smirking

their manifesto said “won’t raise tax rates’ amd they haven’t they are just asking people to contribute a bit more

She has no idea how they’d implement the EV tax

Obviously breakfast clubs, £150, NHS waiting lists, train fares.

All peanuts for monkeys.

EasternStandard · 27/11/2025 08:03

It’s the smirking, so bad. Very Labour.

Loveapineapplepizzame · 27/11/2025 08:04

A long time ago just before the benefit cap was coming in, there was a school Mum I knew (unemployed and already on a lot of benefits) who literally raced to have her third child purely because the cap was coming in. She was absolutely thrilled he arrived just in time and told everyone quite loudly how she had done it before the cap came in. Poor child. Even back then I was pretty disgusted.

Turns out years later Dad is actually also a drug dealer - convicted but got away without jail time. As I recently discovered on a social media post…. And of course there was the usual ‘you and me babe’ thrilled at him getting off with it all posts from her

So yes, with the news that the cap is being scrapped I foresee maternity wards being overrun in around 9-10 months from now, and great, I’ll just carry on working hard and having my taxes increased to fund it all eh.

I’m a Mum of 2 myself and funnily about stopped at 2 because I physically couldn’t afford to provide a ‘good’ life for more than 2 children. I also do not claim any additional benefits and earn just over the limit for child benefit - and paid around half of it back this time.

Im just disappointed. Love my job but it does make you think, what’s the point! When I can just stay at home and be a breeder and come away with about the same amount each month. (I wouldn’t by the way!!)

As for the EV tax - complete joke. They have no idea how they are going to implement it.

DP has the opportunity to buy an EV at a slight discount through his job through salary sacrifice. Which would get rid of his reliable but 15 year old diesel guzzling 4 wheel drive and we could just about afford it. We literally sat down at the weekend working out all the costs of it and we were right there.

The tax however now has put him off.

Oh well, we're all just stupid then for not recognising what she meant. Its was rates, silly me. 🙄

Don't they realise that its the lies and gaslighting that has caused their demise?
Reeves would be less damaged if she actually admitted to breaking their manifesto, than calling people thick for not understanding it.

It’s so tough. It’s getting harder I’m sure.

I can’t listen but Times radio just said she took the question on growth personally. Got quite affronted.

I didn’t listen to Torsten Bell either but apparently he was rude as.

They get angry don’t they under pressure. It’ll get even more as growth stalls.

Great way to encourage people to buy EVs. Well done Labour 👏

I don’t think they do realise - so blinded by hubris and arrogance are they.

Gilt yields are up 50 bps (0.50%) since open so hopefully the markets now realise it’s a shit show.

CambridgeSingers · 27/11/2025 08:42

Same here @Catatemyhomework and @twosandwiches i suspect I got a full suite of offers, a grant and charity support due to my background but they didn’t tell me that back in the day - it dawned on me a few years ago. And I’ve made the criminal mistake of ours going private due to their Sen so really, they’ll have to start their own business to avoid negative effects of all their overwhelming privilege 😂

Size18onagoodday · 27/11/2025 08:49

Exactly. We are in no rush to get rid of a car that we owe nothing on and has cost us a max of around £500 in the last 2 years on minor repairs to then get an EV that we not only have a monthly payment on but we then have extra tax to add onto that monthly cost. No thank you. Our car is a Volvo so we will likely get another 50-100k miles out of it. And yes RR - yet another gas guzzling diesel you are keeping on the road. Well done.

Maybe due to the OBR saying the budget did nothing for growth.

Mansion tax is forecast to raise 400m or the cost to open the NHS’s doors for 24 hours….

Right on.

Alastair C commented on this saying it didn’t seem worth the effort. He reckons they originally planned a much higher tax and have backed down in the face off blow back either from London Labour MPs or others (wealthy donors maybe?)

CaveMum · 27/11/2025 09:18

Even Alastair C begrudgingly admits that Kemi was “powerful” yesterday.

hamstersarse · 27/11/2025 09:35

So basically the rises in gilt yields have wiped out all the tax revenue they’ve just robbed

incompetence doesn’t even cover it, it’s like wilful destruction

Edited

I'm guessing it was to fluff their politics-of-envy supporters?

I can't recall which thread yesterday, but I saw a post saying something like "Good. They're hitting the rich!" so accidentally saying the quiet part out loud and naked.

And if I hear 'the right thing to do' one more time i might put my foot through the TV.

Those doing the media rounds have clearly been briefed to use this term to deflect criticism or hard questions.

If it wasn't so early in the morning I would suggest it as a drinking game.

I'm good with a drinking game.......
