Labour isn't working - Thread 22

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Of the MN deniers, there must only be, what, three left?

Mansion tax is forecast to raise 400m or the cost to open the NHS’s doors for 24 hours….

Right on.

Ha, I'll believe that when I see it. £4.72 is more likely.
The cost of the ripples caused in the housing market however....

I reckon it’s about 5 who all name change. Chat about how good Labour are is kind of dying now. People have to stay entertained somehow. It’s usually on a Sunday afternoon when the Sherry has been out that it all blows up.

Im surprised just how fast mumsnet has gone against them tbh, and my suspicion is it’s about character not actual policy. They lie, manipulate, smoke screen, blame everyone else….I don’t think anyone can warm to that

CambridgeSingers · 27/11/2025 07:36

No @hamstersarse its clear to me on universities they want numbers to collapse, the times headline about new labour being dead is spot on. This lot are partying on its grave. Just lip service to growth.

CambridgeSingers · 27/11/2025 07:37

No that’s right, they come across as jeering, pitiless and puffed up with what it is they believe (in the face of evidence) they’ve achieved. No charm, grace, charisma or ability to persuade people at all.

hamstersarse · 27/11/2025 07:38

Don’t forget the breakfast clubs everyone

Yep. Its the lies and gaslighting.
I saw James Murray in an interview yesterday. The journo said he was lying, with evidence. Murray just repeated what he had said and continued. They know they are lying. They know that we know they are lying.

I just don't see how any of this can be justified. When my kids were small, we lost child benefit as my husband was earning 60k. He took home around £3300 a month. Then I see these families taking home £6000 a month in welfare. Where is the justification in removing child benefit from a family on 60k and increasing welfare for feckless families. These families would need to be on over 100k a year to earn that money. It's completely nuts. It's like they're deliberately sticking two fingers up at families who do the right thing.

There’s still some wedded to Starmer / Reeves and Labour. They probably would be whatever they do.

There have been some never again previous Labour voters which is great. Good they’re realising.

Thats exactly how this budget will be received by most voters.
Labour MPs will soon find that out.

Yep I think only the Mirror has been as positive as some mners

Im not even sure the mirror are that supportive. If they were they would have found different examples of families who would be better off under this budget. Instead they picked examples that they know would infuriates readers.

Pregnant mum-of-four says 'Budget benefit change saved our Christmas'

Exactly. Deliberate trolling, that 2nd example is on a salary equivalent of 135k. Plan 2, ni and tax. Not even any pension!

True maybe they were being sarcastic with budget with a Labour heart and caring chancellor. If so they’ve got people’s attention with the welfare story

Sarahconnor1 · 27/11/2025 07:50

And if I hear 'the right thing to do' one more time i might put my foot through the TV.

Those doing the media rounds have clearly been briefed to use this term to deflect criticism or hard questions.

If it wasn't so early in the morning I would suggest it as a drinking game.

Catatemyhomework · 27/11/2025 07:52

This country is in rapid decline. I genuinely think we're fucked and it scares me. These tax rises are just funding welfare. Nothing will improve. What will take from us next year? If and when we do get a sensible government again, it will take years to improve if ever. Sorry about the doom but I can't see how things will get better.

In the subject of poor children being incentivised to go to university.

I was a poor child who went to university in 1990. Free school meals, teenage mother etc etc. of course I had loans and I had to pay them back.

Now I’ve given myself a social leg-up, my children are massively disadvantaged at every turn when it comes to university. For example DD2 was trying to get onto a summer school course for the subject she wants to study - needing to demonstrate her interest in the subject on her personal statement. There were plenty of summer school but all were closed to her because she wasn’t disadvantaged enough.

She also wants to apply to London universities but she would get minimum loan and we can’t afford to top it up to London living costs. However my friend’s daughter has gone to QMUL (London) because she has access to the full maintenance loan due to mum being on benefits. Mum and dad are divorced, dad tops up her living costs.

So yes, incentivising poor children but denying other kids any shot whatsoever at the same opportunity

Yes, this happened to me too. I went to University in 1990 with a full grant. My kids have it much harder. We get minimum loan and they live at home. My daughter went to look at Bristol University for pharmacology and they said they try and take students with contextual offers of BBB. My daughter not eligible for this and needed AAB. Anyway she didn't put Bristol and got her AAB. They lost a great student. They can piss off. So woke as well.

Nothing much to report from the BBC appearance

she’s still smirking

their manifesto said “won’t raise tax rates’ amd they haven’t they are just asking people to contribute a bit more

She has no idea how they’d implement the EV tax

Obviously breakfast clubs, £150, NHS waiting lists, train fares.
