Farage’s racism

I haven’t yet seen a post about this story: Twenty people allege he has a racist past. He denies it. Who’s telling the truth about Farage’s schooldays? | Nigel Farage | The Guardian

Farage no longer categorically denies these incidents, and is now trying to fudge things by saying he didn’t mean any harm and it was a long time ago - presumably because he knows it is true and realises that 20 separate people saying it means only the truly deluded wouldn’t believe he was a racist.

But what I am interested in is does this actually assist his election chances? We already know that many of his supporters are racists - does it actually work for him that this blatant racism from him shores up their support? Are they secretly (or perhaps not so secretly in some cases) pleased?

And what do those of you who are Reform supporters but believe yourself not be racist think? Does it make you change your mind about him or Reform?

Reform UK’s leader refuses to answer questions about his abusive behaviour, claiming there’s ‘no evidence’. We talk to victims and witnesses

He probably remembers his face from a school photo if shown in court

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2026/jan/08/go-back-home-farage-schoolmate-accounts-bring-total-alleging-racist-behaviour-to-34

Thirty-four school contemporaries of Nigel Farage have now come forward to claim they saw him behave in a racist or antisemitic manner, raising fresh questions over the Reform leader’s evolving denials.

I see Nick Cannon has made new claims in your link. Nicholas Cannon signed that letter claiming he was not politically motivated, however numerous reposts on his X account show that he is - including this two days ago;

(1/10) Reform UK now have multiple viable paths to power in Britain. And it couldn’t be clearer: the establishment press is extremely unlikely to scrutinise it properly. Help us hold Reform to account in 2026 with a massive new wave of investigations...

Have pupils come forward defending Farage saying he was not a racist?

You are dismissing anyone who criticises him, why?

He said he recognised Farage from his walk - however does Farage have a CCF/military walk? In which case dozens of boys were in the CCF. He also claimed Farage was flanked by two other boys - can he identify the others?

DuncinToffee · 08/01/2026 20:24

You can just say you don't believe him Clav.

From the Guardian articles:

A number of school contemporaries to whom the Guardian has spoken do not recall racist or antisemitic behaviour by Farage.

This is not the whole picture. Others who knew Farage then remember he was bumptious, rude, provocative and enjoyed being the centre of attention, but do not recall the behaviour described by Ettedgui and others.

You can have a political preference without being politically motivated to denounce a racist. You can be anti reform and still not lying about racism.

I don't believe he has reliably identified Farage as his abuser/bully - that's not to say I don't believe he was abused by someone. Bankole only spent one year at the school, so it's not as though he had several years of contact with Farage - indeed, he says he only interacted with Farage three times.

That’s not saying he wasn’t racist. It’s just saying they didn’t hear him - which if they aren’t Jewish or ethnic minority grouos isn’t surprising.

Farage left quite an impression then and not for good reasons.

Jean-Pierre Lihou told ITV that he 'didn't have any political affiliations at all' - despite being a member of multiple anti-Brexit/pro-EU Facebook groups (some of his ranting I quoted up-thread.)

motivated to denounce a racist

Not everyone contacted could recall the incidents cited in our reporting. And no one to whom we spoke claims, any more than we claim ourselves, that Mr Farage the man must still hold the same views that Mr Farage the teenager is alleged to have held more than 40 years ago.

Unless Mr Bankole was 'jumping on the bandwagon'.

DuncinToffee · 08/01/2026 20:55

Still strange that no one has come to his defence and stated that Farage was/is not a racist.

So you are saying you do think all the accusers are liars and he didn’t do it, despite your reply to me earlier? Or what? You’re not being very clear.
Edit: I do t think membership of a Facebook group is a political affiliation really. It’s an interest. I’d assume a paid membership of something for political affiliation.

DuncinToffee · 12/01/2026 12:26

New version of Nigel Farage's defence against multiple claims of school-era racism and antisemitism -

Farage tells a press conference that the accusations are "meaningless", because claims of racism are now so common. This is slightly different from last week's "fantasies".

34 former pupils now.

Scraping the barrel? Farage could have put a stop to it by simply apologising.

Anyone decent would.

He doesn't want to damage his brand. He's worked hard to make sure everyone knows he's a racist cunt

I am sure his fangirls here on Mumsnet will have an eloquent and compelling reason as to why this position is just fiiiiine.

AnnunciataM · 15/01/2026 12:35

And don't think that he wouldn't come after women and disabled people next. "Why shouldn't we be able to say we only want to hire men or able-bodied people?"
