Farage’s racism

I haven’t yet seen a post about this story: Twenty people allege he has a racist past. He denies it. Who’s telling the truth about Farage’s schooldays? | Nigel Farage | The Guardian

Farage no longer categorically denies these incidents, and is now trying to fudge things by saying he didn’t mean any harm and it was a long time ago - presumably because he knows it is true and realises that 20 separate people saying it means only the truly deluded wouldn’t believe he was a racist.

But what I am interested in is does this actually assist his election chances? We already know that many of his supporters are racists - does it actually work for him that this blatant racism from him shores up their support? Are they secretly (or perhaps not so secretly in some cases) pleased?

And what do those of you who are Reform supporters but believe yourself not be racist think? Does it make you change your mind about him or Reform?

Twenty people allege he has a racist past. He denies it. Who’s telling the truth about Farage’s schooldays?

Reform UK’s leader refuses to answer questions about his abusive behaviour, claiming there’s ‘no evidence’. We talk to victims and witnesses

DD was walking with a date- also brown-and carrying a bunch of flowers last week. Happy because her date had gone well. A man came up to them and said " Great for you innit. You have flowers and a pretty dress and money. Go back to where you belong". This is SE London so she was afraid to say anything in case she got stabbed. She and her date just kept walking and turned the other cheek, as we have to do.

All just friendly bantz, innit?

I’m so sorry that happened to your daughter. I too have had more overtly racist things said to me over the last few years and some have really shaken me. I hope she is ok.

It's a different thread, but I'm always puzzled by the accusations of Starmer being dull, as if having a PM who juat wants to do the job, rather than entertain, is a problem.

It's such a weird criticism. Would anyone have a problem if a police officer, surgeon, accountant, judge etc was a bit boring? I'm guessing not. It's a job that I want someone to take seriously anddo diligently, and I think most people feel the same. I acknowledge that a bit of charisma would be an advantage in dealing with people, but I would rather have a dull person who can be taken seriously representing us than whatever the fuck went on for the 14 years prior.

My god that is terrifying your poor Dd just living her life .

We are in a v diverse part of London. Never happened before. I think also some misogyny as I have noticed some men can't bear to see a woman happy.
I have also noticed shoplifters throwing racist abuse at the staff in Boots and Co Op, when caught.

FluffAndBrush · 25/11/2025 09:32

The BBC and Guardian can not be trusted, I believe Ferage probably told jokes, people did back then, people laughed or they didn't.

How do I know if the Guardian have made it up, when they made up men being women? That's what happens when you tell lies, people don't trust you. That's what happens when the PM can tell the media that they must remove footage of him tripping over, nothing is to be trusted.

20 people have come forward

Periperi2025 · 25/11/2025 09:37

I'd hate to be judged on the person i was at 15.

I was naive and reckless and that isn't who i am now.

It is a lazy smear campaign to be bringing up a 61yo's childhood. The media need to try harder!!

Holluschickie · 25/11/2025 09:38

Anyway, OP, this thread demonstrates that many don't care because they think anti- racists are woke and 16 -year-olds are stupid enough to make gas chamber jokes.

Steven Yaxley lennon and Nigel have a lot to answer for, people not safe at work and walking down the street shameful.

Do you seriously think the Guardian "made up" words for 20 people (most named, including a respected filmmaker who seemed the particular butt of Farage's so called "humour") and printed it just to discredit him? This isn't the first time this subject has come up, either.

Surely you don’t genuinely believe that the Guardian made up 20 different people’s accounts of the racist abuse - not jokes - they suffered from Farage. Some of those accounts are on the record and include at least one public figure who went to school with him.

It’s bonkers to take a view on the nature of what he said without reading the article because you don’t like some other things the outlet said. And in fact, I think one of the writers was on the Observer - who of course published Sonia Sodha and her many GC articles and views.

15% of the population will look you in the eye and tell you that a man is a woman and many of them send death threats to those who refuse to believe the lie.

The PM had the media remove tripping footage last week.

I don't believe anything from the left now.

FluffAndBrush · 25/11/2025 09:20

No I haven't read it, I can't be bothered, I stopped trusting the Guardian and BBC when they told me that men are women.

Well then your opinion on whether these are standard jokes of the time that everyone (except Starmer) would have laughed at is a bit irrelevant isn’t it? Since you don’t know what the comments are that you confidently state were funny jokes.

Sunshinesmon · 25/11/2025 09:42

Uricon2 · 25/11/2025 09:30

I'm slightly older than Farage. While what are now rightly seen as racial slurs were in common currency in a way that is shocking today and kids picked them up and used them casually, no-one-absolutely no-one- I knew thought singing songs advocating the Holocaust for Jews or black people or Asians, or hissing to imitate escaping gas in the ear of a Jewish classmate (a couple of examples from his contemporaries) would have been acceptable. He was also 18 when some of this was taking place.

He could easily say something that indicates he was in the wrong back then but he won't, because this is actually a significant part of what Farage is as an adult.

ETA I am very sad and concerned that we seem to be going backwards not forwards as a society when it comes to racism. It is shaming and NF is part of the problem

I don't remember anything about Jews of the holocaust either, maybe because we children never came across any Jews in our areas?

I do remember terms like pi and nr being used widely, but I knew it wasn't OK even then. One of my clearest childhood memories was the shock I felt when a friend's dad told me he hoped Mrs Thatcher would win the election because she'd "send all the p**is home". Shocked because although we heard that kind of language in the playground a lot, no adult I was close to would ever have said it. My mum still says "coloured" because she thinks it's the polite option.

Well that's how we ended up with Brexit.
Send all the foreigners home, even if it means wrecking the economy And now we look likely to have the ass who engineered it as our next PM.

Something a man said over 40 year ago let it go.
On a new topic what about doctors testing blockers on kid's under the age of 10.
Its abuse to me.

It's not an age thing. I am the same age as Nigel Farage and I have always known that the sort of comments he has been reported as making are racist and totally unacceptable. Sadly a lot of his supporters don't seem to care.

This. I am older than Farage. My best friend at school was from an ethnic minority. There were always people ready to make racist comments if they thought they could get away with it. Such attitudes haven’t gone away, those people simply kept quiet. Now they feel they can say what they want.

Sunshinesmon · 25/11/2025 09:48

The really sad/shocking thing about all this is that no only will it not be harming him, it will help him with all those who've been convinced that immigration is the root of all the countries problems. Poor Nigel, only saying what everyone else is thinking. We used to have freedom of speech in this country etc etc.

2dogsandabudgie · 25/11/2025 09:49

It was a completely different time back then, our local shop was known as the P shop, you had programmes like 'Love Thy Neighbour' and characters like Alf Garnett. In an episode of Only Fools and Horses in the 80s Del Boy mentions going to the 'P shop.

Why are you starting a new unrelated topic on a thread about racism? Start a new thread.

What about the numerous attacks by XL bullies? 🤔
