Farage’s racism

I haven’t yet seen a post about this story: Twenty people allege he has a racist past. He denies it. Who’s telling the truth about Farage’s schooldays? | Nigel Farage | The Guardian

Farage no longer categorically denies these incidents, and is now trying to fudge things by saying he didn’t mean any harm and it was a long time ago - presumably because he knows it is true and realises that 20 separate people saying it means only the truly deluded wouldn’t believe he was a racist.

But what I am interested in is does this actually assist his election chances? We already know that many of his supporters are racists - does it actually work for him that this blatant racism from him shores up their support? Are they secretly (or perhaps not so secretly in some cases) pleased?

And what do those of you who are Reform supporters but believe yourself not be racist think? Does it make you change your mind about him or Reform?

Reform UK’s leader refuses to answer questions about his abusive behaviour, claiming there’s ‘no evidence’. We talk to victims and witnesses

I’ve always assumed Clav to be a Tory partisan.

Same. I’m very surprised to see her defending Reform.

CurlewKate · 11/12/2025 11:41

@ClavinovaThe difference is that Rayner is entirely open about getting pregnant as a teenager, and justifiably proud (despite a few hiccups!) of the life she has since made for herself and her children.

Contrariwise, it makes perfect sense if your entire posting philosophy is to slow debate by ceaseless c'n'ping to say "whaddabout" when direction changes.

Long time posters know how to tackle this of course.

DuncinToffee · 11/12/2025 12:37

His supporters won't care and just nod along

Farage says, "I didn't wear them (masks) last time, and I won't wear them this time" and dismisses mask mandates as "rubbish".

Here's Farage in 2020.

These people are supported by Reform, Pochin for example

I see Farage is still persisting with ‘lots of people have messaged me to say I wasn’t racist’. Even if this were true, it just means they didn’t hear him/weren’t the target. It proves nothing. It would also be more convincing if he didn’t vacillate between ‘I didn’t do it’, ‘I didn’t mean it badly’ and ‘it was a long time ago how am I supposed to remember?’

CuriousKangaroo · 12/12/2025 15:10

Thanks for sharing, I hadn’t seen this. Interesting that they entirely avoid the subject of whether they knew about this at the time. Perhaps in light of the 1981 letter that was found 10 years ago or so, in which a teacher asked the head to reconsider making NF a prefect because of his racist and fascist views and comments, they feel they cannot deny they knew about his behaviour?

He's so full of shit that I'm sure he'd implode if he ever spoke the truth.

While in the 6th form, Nigel Farage would smoke on the "Belsen Bus", when a black person appeared on screen, would loudly exclaim, "Are you English?", repeated chants of the National Front: "The National Front is the white man's front", and "There ain't no black in the union jack".

Come on @Clavinova. You can’t possibly compare recollection of a TV programme with the testimony of someone who was a victim of bullying - I was bullied at school 60 years ago and, while I don’t remember every detail, I’ll never forget the main perpetrator’s name and I can see his face now. That trauma never leaves you.

To be fair - the person I was referring to doesn't appear to have known Farage's name at the time - he said he recognised 'that person's walk'.

SerendipityJane · 14/12/2025 18:39

Apparently Farage has now praised the BBC for it's commitment to free speech in the 70s keeping the Black and White Minstrel Show on air for so long.

I like to play devil's advocate sometimes and I think it's important to call out discrepancies if I have noticed them. For example, Dr Andrew Field, an NHS doctor and one of Farage's most vocal accusers (although not one of his alleged victims), has given interviews stating;

“I made a post on social media [back in September] and I was overwhelmed by people who got in contact with me,” he said. “People who were nine years old and Nigel Farage, when he was 18 years old, marched frequently into the playground where they were playing and they were told to ‘go back to Africa’.

The person Dr Field is referring to here is obviously Yinka Bankole. However, when Bankole joined the school aged nine, Farage was aged 16 and five months, not aged 18.

Yinka Bankole said he only attended the school for one year (school year 1980/1981) - Farage was not 18 until April 1982. Bankole also described Farage as 'very tall' - was Farage a very tall 16 year old?

Olympic level straw clutching there, Clav.

DuncinToffee · 14/12/2025 20:00

Important to call out discrepancies but not to call out racism?

PandoraSocks · 14/12/2025 20:16

Dear me.

A sixteen and a half year old will seem tall to a nine year old. Especially if the sixteen and a half year old is bullying them.

Efacsen · 14/12/2025 20:29

Average height of 16 yr old 5' 8,5''
Average height of 18 yr old 5' 9''

Average height of 9 yr old 4' 5,5''

What's the point of nit-picking over half and inch but missing the 15 inches difference

DuncinToffee · 14/12/2025 20:00

I posted up thread that I thought Farage should probably apologise to Peter Ettedgui. I'm not convinced that Yinka Bankole has identified the correct perpetrator - he didn't identify Farage by his name, apparently interacted with Farage only a few times (aged 9), originally thought Farage was 18 (or was that Dr Field's exaggeration?) and described 16 year old Farage as 'very tall.'

As for Farage's racism, even the Guardian stated; 'there is no claim that Farage the man must still hold the same views as the ones ascribed to Farage the boy.

DuncinToffee · 14/12/2025 20:32

Still excusing him.

MayaPinion · 14/12/2025 20:37

I’m astonished that anyone thinks he’s not racist. We all know he’s racist. He’s made a living out of it. That’s why his voters vote for him. If anything this will boost his credentials amongst his core voters.

Is average height 'very tall'? Was Farage average height at age 16? When did Bankole celebrate his 10th birthday? How tall are Bankole's parents for comparison?

Why doesn't the Guardian just come out and say it. Frightened of being sued? Cowards.
