Some fucker has stolen my Nectar points

How the hell?? Just got an email from Nectar saying they've been spent at the other end of the country, checked my app - and sure enough, they've all gone 😡

Anyone know what my chances are of getting them back?

This is very common unfortunately. You’ll probably get them back though. They usually refund them. You can lock them in the app so that they can’t be spent until you decide to unlock them.

IntrinsicWorth · 20/11/2025 20:28

Unfortunately this is a thing. I think if you can prove you were miles away, Nectar will reinstate them. They introduced a locking function to prevent this but their security must be really bad.

Fallulah · 20/11/2025 20:28

This happened to us! £45 worth spent at petrol stations in London (we are nowhere near there). We hadn’t given anyone else our card details. I contacted Nectar on social media and they sorted out a new card and gave us all the points back.

On the new app you can ‘lock’ your points so they can’t be spent. It must be because this was happening to so many people.

Jonstantlycuggling · 20/11/2025 20:29

This is a scam doing the rounds near us. Someone asks if you'd like their points as they don't have their card. Seems like a win win...they get nectar price, you get points. But when they go to pay, they can click on "use nectar points" and they do! Sorry it's happened to you 😥

SirChenjins · 20/11/2025 20:30

How on earth does it happen?? No problem to prove where I've been - they were spent in a town 7 hours drive from here - so they'd better refund them!

OP posts:
CalmShaker · 20/11/2025 20:30

I was told it happens by scanning in a compromised place

That would only work if you don't have spending locked.

I'm amazed Nectar hasn't shouted from the rooftops about the ability to lock spending.

We decided there must be some sort of programme that tries series of nectar card numbers until they find one with points on, but we couldn’t quite work it out. The social media person who dealt with ours sounded very used to it!

SirChenjins · 20/11/2025 20:31

Nothing like that @Jonstantlycuggling my card has been in my purse and my phone with the app hasn't left my side. Utter. Scumbags - I was saving those points for Christmas 😡

OP posts:
BananaPie · 20/11/2025 20:32

mine were stolen a few months back. I suspect it was all done online / somehow linked to my online shop as it happened on delivery day. I got it all back after calling nectar to report it

IvedoneitagainhaventI · 20/11/2025 20:32

This is very worrying OP.

I know they have taken measures to try to stop it happening- the ability to lock spending them in the app and the recently introduced having to physically scan the app or your card to spend the points in store. I was thinking the stealing of points was much harder to do now but this happening to you shows it's still a possibility.

How absolutely infuriating for you OP.

Keroppi · 20/11/2025 20:32

Wow, I wonder if your email address and nectar password have been hacked? Otherwise how?

www.haveibeenpwned.com is a good website for checking

Edited

We don’t have a physical card - have only had the app for years.

suki1964 · 20/11/2025 20:34

I had all mine stolen - the EasyJet hack a few years ago - got them all back not a bother. Rang the club card customer service line and it was easy to prove it wasnt me spending them

SirChenjins · 20/11/2025 20:34

I onow @IvedoneitagainhaventI - it really is. I only ever use my card or phone at our local Sainsbury's store and petrol pump, so goodness knows how they got hold of my points.

I'm so sorry it's happened to others on here - you have my sympathies.

This happened to me last December (I got my money back after speaking to someone on their helpline who was in a call centre in India). It's not a new thing. Anyone can use a loyalty card app and add any number. If you haven't locked spending in the Nectar app (emails were sent out about this and Martin Lewis mentioned it) I'm not sure that Nectar will be that keen on refunding you. I'm sure this is why Nectar implemented the lock spending feature.

pteromum · 20/11/2025 20:38

That’s so shit OP. I’m sure you will get them back in those circumstances. If not get on social media and we will all share.

IncessantNameChanger · 20/11/2025 20:40

I have just checked my app and points are locked. I don't remember locking them? Was it automatic? Or my poor memory?

The lock system hasn't been well publicised though? Nectar haven't sent an email confirming that if you do not lock your points you are "liable" for any loss (or words to that effect) so hopefully the OP will get their points back.

This thread has - sadly - reminded me to lock my points after unlocking them recently.

I definitely had to do it manually.

SirChenjins · 20/11/2025 20:42

I've just been into the app and have locked them now - never knew it was a thing. Surely there should be sufficient security that people don't have to lock their cards to stop people stealing them - they should be automatically secure?

We don’t have a physical card - have only had the app for years.

But the scanner at the place you visited (doesn't matter if app or card) would likely have took a photo of your barcode when you scanned.
Then the scammer just uses that to use your points up

I'm sure it won't take anything more than a phone call to their customer services. This has been going on for years, it's a very well known fraud, it certainly won't be a surprise to the person on the phone and as a few other posters have said they'll give them back

SauvignonBlanche · 20/11/2025 20:43

I'm amazed Nectar hasn't shouted from the rooftops about the ability to lock spending.

I didn’t know about this until reading this thread.
Safely locked now until my Christmas shop.

I hope you get yours back OP 🤞

Exactly - I didn't receive an email telling me that I was liable for any theft unless I locked the app. They hold my data, it's up to them to keep it secure, surely?
