Some fucker has stolen my Nectar points

How the hell?? Just got an email from Nectar saying they've been spent at the other end of the country, checked my app - and sure enough, they've all gone 😡

Anyone know what my chances are of getting them back?

This happened to me a few weeks ago and as I’m the second card holder (my card is joined to DH account) they’ll only discuss refunding with him. I’m so cross about that - it was my card scammed, I’m the main nectar card user and Nectar emailed me to say the points had been spent - that instead of adulting and getting DH to contact them, I’m sulking and refusing to shop in Sainsburys!! I might try social media rather than their chat function. And I had no idea about the locking down function either.

I just cried. It had been a bad week and being asked if I could get in touch with the main card holder after being divorced neatly 15 years was too much. Big backstory!

bbwbwka · 21/11/2025 19:38

That’s shocking. Seems there’s nothing people can’t steal or scam these days. I rarely go to Sainsbury’s as I’m nearer Tesco. In Tesco I can scan a photo of my clubcard, but in Sainsbury’s you can’t scan a photo of the nectar card, you have to have the Sainsbury’s app displaying the card. So I thought Sainsbury’s was more secure.

If you're going to return to shopping in Sainsburys, and you do most of the grocery shopping, open a new Nectar account in your name, if you're the main user. You can either have separate accounts or get him a second card/key fob or whatever on your new account.

DP does most of our grocery shopping since COVID. Neither of us drive. He can carry more and he's over 60 and in London where we live can travel on all TFL services for free after 9 am. We actually do have separate Clubcard accounts but dp has cards or key fobs for his and my own, as at one point I was trying to accumulate points for their offers.

IntrinsicWorth · 21/11/2025 21:10

It’s all a bit baffling. I guess, for Sainsbury, the cost of refunding thieved Nectar points is less than the cost of improving nectar’s cyber security. Plus they are probably relying on lots of people not noticing.
With all the corporate hacks happening recently, it’s a very bad look. They should sort it for investor relations.

Blueberry911 · 22/11/2025 09:50

I use my points as soon as they reach £2.50 for this very reason

NoWordForFluffy · 22/11/2025 10:26

I keep mine locked. If I spend them, I literally unlock for the seconds it takes to spend them. DH has the second card to our account and isn't able to unlock / lock.

SirChenjins · 22/11/2025 10:30

I'm definitely going to keep mine locked from now on - I hadn't even realised it was a thing until posters on this thread pointed it out.

SmartiesParty · 22/11/2025 10:31

Thanks for posting it. I’ve just checked and mine have been stolen too

ClaraThePigeon · 22/11/2025 10:31

I’m glad to hear that you got them back, OP. Fingers crossed that the other posters get theirs refunded too.

KnickerlessParsons · 22/11/2025 10:31

Nectar gets on my pip. Half the offers on my app aren’t even available at the nearest , smallish, store to me where I do all my shopping.

KnickerlessParsons · 22/11/2025 10:32

And why does it offer me points for a litre of s/s milk when it can see that I only ever buy oat milk? 😡

I’ve just spoken to customer service and got them all back. Also locked the account now!

More annoyance. I tried to log into my Nectar app but it said the details I entered were incorrect. Fine, I thought, I'e probably entered the wrong password. Did a pw reset, copied the code that was emailed to me and re-entered the details. Told me it didn't have that email on the system. Tried uninstalling the app and re-installing it. Chose the 'Ive had a Nectar card before', re-entered my name, and it says they don't recognise me. Now I'm completely locked out. An absolute mess - I'll need to phone them again tomorrow.

Has the account always been solely yours and in your name? I took over my DH account when we moved in together and even though we'd updated details on the account, the system defaulted unknowingly to DH when I tried to get the points reinstated.
I think I posted the solution on the thread that I linked earlier in the week.

SirChenjins · 24/11/2025 09:50

Yes, always in my name - DH has his own account, they're not linked.

I’ve had a result 💪🏼 with Nectar and have had my points reinstated. Did it via their chat function as their phone lines were closed. Thanks again @SirChenjins for starting this thread.

That's exactly what happened to me when I also had my points stolen. Simply going round in an endless loop of them not recognising my account. I do share the account with my partner though so now just use a screenshot of his nectar QR code at the checkout.

greengreytrue · 24/11/2025 19:06

Happened to me as well AND they stole my Christmas delivery slot!

WideOpenBeaches · 24/11/2025 19:08

@greengreytrue Christmas slot…?? 🤬

Itsrainingloadshere · 28/11/2025 20:16

I was in Sainsbury’s earlier and a lady getting her shopping asked me if I had a Nectar card. Having read this I said no as I wondered if she wanted to scan it then use the accumulated points to pay for her shopping.

Before reading this thread I might have said yes though.

OneKeenPeachRaven · 28/11/2025 20:19

Yep, they're very much aware of it but don't seem to be doing much about it. We had ours stolen and spent at the other end of the country, but got them back without much issue. They really do need to make them more secure - we'd built up several hundred pounds.

SirChenjins · 28/11/2025 20:23

I managed to get my account sorted - a really helpful bloke talked me through it and I now have a new account, a new card on its way, and spending locked. I can't believe it's happened so many of you - Sainsbury's really needs to do something about this. They must be losing £££££££s while this is happening.Glad this thread has been of help.

I’m so very grateful for this thread. I was in Sainsburys yesterday when I had a youth snatched my purse out of my handbag. I chased after him screaming like a banshee. He got away despite a few people trying to stop him. They have full CCTV of the youth - little bastard. The staff in Sainsburys were great as I was in shock and couldnt work out how to cancel my cards on my banking app so they did it for me. The manager also asked if I had a nectar card with points on. I said I had but I had locked my points down thanks to something I had read on this site and he was very relieved to hear that. I’ve currently got £120 on it so it would be a lot to lose. I’ve lost my driving licence, debit card, credit card and various loyalty cards. There was about £5 in cash so he didn’t really get anything but the way he came up to my trolley and quickly put his hand in my handbag (I had stupidly left it open after getting my phone out) has really shaken me up and made me nervous now.

SirChenjins · 28/11/2025 21:11

Oh @Icequeen01 that's awful 😥I'm so sorry that happened to you, what a horrible thing to experience. I hope you're a bit better now and that you can get your cards etc back soon. It's a horrible feeling, you have my sympathies. I once had that happen to me on a tube in London and the feeling is dreadful - it happens so quickly. I'm so pleased this thread was able to help a bit Flowers

I had similar, was one Friday evening just as Nectar admin went home for evening. I had £200 in mine - just havent spent them for a few years!! Was gutted. Called them Monday and they reinstated there and then, new cards sent and told me to lock my account. They said it happens a lot - they must be losing so much money! But no idea how they did it, I dont actually have a physical card ans only use it online for mt Sainsburys shop. Weird...

It will be spent at Christmas.
